100% this.

If it's one way, I kinda get it. 'Here's me, famous footballer people like, doing stuff'. But even some super nice guy that everyone loves (Bob Murphy, Pav, Lenny Hayes - whoever) is still going to attract complete nimrods saying dumb shit so to actually engage with people and read comments etc. - **** that.

It's like Instagram "models" who post suggestive photos of themselves and wonder why they get sleazy comments. You are literally inviting people on the internet to anonymously communicate with you. What did you think would happen?

A player I know has all of his profiles locked to highest privacy settings, a photo of his dog for the profile pic and his middle name as his surname. He said anybody who doesn’t want to be hassled does it and they don’t have problems.

Those who don’t are generally looking for attention - girls, or praise for their performance. It turns inevitably, they can’t take the bad with the good.

I remember one of my FB friends became friends with "Chad Flecther" or something equally obvious. Why Chad Fletcher (who was already retired) felt he needed to badly disguise his name I don't know, but yeah if I was famous and had social media it would be super extra private.

A few famous people are really just waiting for attention from other famous people. Riley McGree scored that ridiculous goal in the A-League on Friday. If I like his social media post I doubt he'll GAF, but I'm sure it's got millions of views by now and if Cristiano Ronaldo or Leo Messi comments 'great goal' or something that'll be a massive thrill for him.

Lol at Crows fans who claim Lever chose money over success, as if success is imminent at Adelaide and they didn’t just prove to be chokers on the big stage.

In the end footy is a career and he’s maximising his return on it. He’s getting paid more money to play in his home state. 95% of us would do the same. Doesn’t deserve to cop abuse over it. It is not criticism as you put it, it’s mostly abuse.
Lever was offered over $800k pa & asked the Crows to match & make him.the highest paid crows player. We chose not to. It was a money decision for Lever & we didn't think he was worth that money, despite being a good player. Not worth more than Tex & Sloane!

Ps. Thanks for Gibbs :)
Next week should be a close game lol.

What does Gibbs have to do with Lever? Or next weeks game?

What does Lever not choosing money have to do with the truth?

Like a Carlon supporter handing on to the good old days of brown paper bags full of cash would have a clue...

Pretty disappointing to hear young Jake has had so much abuse directed his way that he has had to shut down his Twitter account. It really is a poor reflection on the bitter Crows fans and angry Melbourne fans who have attacked for nothing other than doing his job. A lot from these two supporter groups need to take a good look at their atrocious behaviour, in truth they probably shouldn't be supporting a competitive sporting team as they clearly are too immature to be involved.

There's no question Jake has had a difficult start to his year, however he isn't alone among Melbourne players and is still very young.

All the best tomorrow Jake, stick it up all those weaklings potting you from the stands

Ha ha what a magnificent troll account! 4 posts, PAFC supporter. Awesome.

The post I first quoted stated he chose money over success, as if it’s just a given that the Crows will win a flag in the near future or before Melbourne. Pretty arrogant if you ask me. Nothing wrong with Lever wanting to go home and maximising his earnings with it. Adelaide are consistently losing top line talent, could be more of a culture issue than a Lever issue.

As for the comment on Carlton, there are plenty of threads discussing our cap issues (from pre-2002 ). Try and stick to the topic

No, you just completely contradicted your original post suggesting Lever decison wasn't money related.

Of course he thought about the money side. There would have been many factors. I’m just saying he didn’t solely choose money over success like many Adelaide fans choose to believe. That’s just arrogant. Melbourne have as much potential as any side do right now.

Given you are slow on the uptake, let me as explain it in simple terms.

BT talked the Dees in to offering $850K pa.

Lever gave AFC the choice of matching this deal or near to it.

AFC said thanks, but no thanks, it's Doedee time & cough up 2x 1st rounders.

It's all about the money you clown!

Um......when he signed with Melbourne we were top of the AFL ladder and a very strong chance for the flag, or at least a GF. And Melbourne just weren't at the same level, nor will they be for a while yet. So I am 99% sure he left for money and 'look at me' status.

I'm surprised to hear any Crows fan could genuinely think Lever is an inferior player to Doedee. Doedee has played six (very good) games, but Lever was going to be their defensive general until he left, and now he's a 'dime-a-dozen' KPD.

Call me old fashioned but I don't consider making your social media profiles private to be much of a sacrifice at all. I'm a nobody and I'm still very careful about what I post on social media and who can access it.

As someone said, if AFL players genuinely want to use social media to connect with friends and family there are easy ways to do that and still remain anonymous. But if they want to use social media as a tool to build their 'brand' and feed their ego then I have absolutely no sympathy for the first world problems that may come along with it when there is such a simple solution.

Who has stated that Lever asked Adelaide to match the offer and he'll stay?

Most teachers do the same thing with their profiles

Yes - you are absolutely right. Many crows fans talking him down despite the fact that had lever stayed, he would be in the team and doedee wouldn’t be getting a game.

I guess it’s a defensive mechanism to deal with loss, but have to call it for what it is. There is however genuine merriment (for us) and disappointment (for you) at how he has started the year, certainly not up to the price tag!
