What was the umpire’s fine or suspension
Is it wrong that I laughed at that way harder than I should have?
We needed a laugh though
He will be there in Weekend at Bernie's style, with a Guilty sign pinned on him by Steven Hocking.
The whole touching the umpires thing is really weird to me, I get trying to stop it from happening in the lower leagues but it's not as if the same rules aren't in place at amateur level. They just aren't policed hard enough, and probably still wouldn't be even if the AFL went this hard on it. I think it might be the same at junior level too.
The course of action being taken by the Appeals board is right by the precedent that happened a week earlier, but it was a s**t precedent to have in the first place. Give the brothers the fine, acknowledge that this is the definitive way this will be adjudicated from now on, and apologise to Hawkins or whatever needs to be done.

Is there any footage around of what players were copping fines for in regards to contact for an umpire prior to the Hawkins case?

They asked Ed where he was looking when he made contact as he has his head facing in between the umpire and an approaching Essendon player. They must have needed to be sure he was looking at the umpire.
Won't mean anything at the appeal though because the AFL have already decided it was intentional.
Well done Mark Maclure!!! Absolutely put it on sloppyo and Gerard on 360 saying they had driven this. Asked Gerard “did your guy (Hawkins from the team Gerard supports) plead guilty? Did the Curnow brothers plead NG and get found guilty? So how can they overturn it? Hmmm”.
Maclure then said “don’t drive in to Carlton..they blame you for this.” Sloppyo couldn’t look up, pretending to read notes. Wheatley shifting uncomfortably in his seat saying it wasn’t him..

Apparently hasn't happened since Will Minson got 4 weeks overturned in the VFL, Heath Shaw got a week for putting his hand on the umps shoulder while remonstrating and back to Diesel in '97.
Just terribly coincidental it happened 3 times after Hawkins got done and they started looking.
Nothing for Hodge or the other Geelong player last week. Not even raised.
12 PM tomorrow: AFL decides not to appeal.

Yeah that’s why I’m interested to see what players have been receiving fines for this year for umpire contact.

I find it rather ironic.
It was clearly evident that the severity of the Hawkins punishment was primarily based on the cries of Margetts through his mic. Now they decide to appeal these decisions and weigh the severity of the Curnows' punishments through the actual incidents rather than the outcomes.
If that doesn't tell you how much more the impact of the inconsistency affects Carlton compared to Geelong, then I don't know what does.
