I always forget which one is David Netiz and which one is David Schwartz. Stupid similar looking, Melbourne playing guys called David.

Whatever you think of Garry Lyon, he should be in the HoF before David Neitz.

Schwartz was the one who was good for brief moments between knees.

Melbourne's turn for the AFL-granted fairytale year, remember.
Surely, surely they wouldn't be so blatant. SURELY!

If they d win, Id seriously consider just watching Port SANFL games, at least they don't pretend they aren't corrupt.

Neitz holds record for most games, goals and games as captain for Melbourne. Similar number of b&fs and all Australians between the two. Significantly less of a campaigner than Lyon.
I think it's a fair call

I put this list in an Austin Roberstson Jnr for hall of fame thread back in December 2014 and have updated it given that since then, Austin Roberstson Jnr in 2015, Ron Todd last year and last night Bernie Naylor was inducted into the HoF.

Bold = inducted into Australian Football Hall of Fame. Poor old Ted Tyson had to compete with George Doig and only won the leading goal kicker twice see http://www.wafl.com.au/honours/bernie-naylor-medal

Unfortunately Milton’s exact total remains unknown due to incomplete records. Milton’s total was estimated to be in excess of 1,200 goals.

Has Russell Ebert been upgraded to Legend status yet?
Nope. He is probably 20 years away from it. But I'm no fan of Legend status. Its an arbitrary 10% rule.

If you don't want to hear/see footy politics maybe don't follow every single avenue with the sport in media?

All you gotta do to avoid 99% of what you don't want to know about, is to not consume media outside of team selections and the 3 hours a game is on.

You'll be set, no more football politics, only football.
I do this in general but the point isn’t so much that the political elements of footy are annoying

The point is I think the AFL has lost its focus on being the best competition it can be because it’s trying to be the best corporate citizen it can be and as a result not focusing on those things important to fans imo

Surely you need something to divide actual important players from the likes of Mark Bickley, though.

the more i look and read about it the more i hope both Sloane and Lynch both stay at the Crows. 28 and 27 years old. will get a 4 year contract each, will both be on some decent $$$.
Sloane injury isnt a good one to get and lynch or jenkins (whos on coin and contracted up) keeping out that young KPF they have.
as much as i like the lol youve lost another lot of players you wanted, id rather see them tie up lots of cash and years on these two. also not get any more picks etc

According to Rooch's article - Legend” status be handed to those who “caused the game to change significantly for the better”.

Surely that would mean a lot more coaches fit that criteria. I personally think Legend status is a wank. Just be like the original Hall of Fame - Baseball set up in Cooperstown New York state - have your different categories, players, coaches, administrators, umpires, media etc but dont worry about what the bloody hell a legend is and who fits that criteria and why its only 10%.

Random rant:

I'm so ****ing sick of hearing people complain about the goal review system. It takes 1 minute, happens on average once per game, is right 95% of the time, and when its wrong its funny.

Carry on

Why are we stuck on the idea that there should be only one game on Friday night?
It's idiotic. Even if you still only televise one, you're not telling me it's absolutely in Gil's interest to switch a Sunday morning game to Friday night for the crowd bump alone.

edit- read REH's pick up on CH7 exclusivity. Sigh

The NRL dropped their two games on Fridays and now have one on Thursday and one on Friday. I could see the AFL following suit, unless the upcoming block of 5 Thursday games turns into a fizzer.

I'm keen on the Thursday night game becoming a regular fixture.

It's a good start to the weekend. A footy match is an easy form of entertainment to drop in after work for, stay as long as you like, go out after if you want, head home at a reasonable time, etc. I'd be a lot more likely to attend a Thursday night game than a Sunday twilight. In fact I'd even consider seeing a good game of footy that doesn't involve Port on a Thursday night with a few mates.

Lots of scheduling issues with 23 Thursday night games and 6 day breaks.

In the US the NFL by law ie the Broadcasting Act aren't allowed to broadcast games on Friday night, that is for high school football, or Saturday as that is for College games, with Saturday night games only allowed in the play offs when College football is supposed to be finished but 1 or 2 bowl games might be left.

So they have 1 Thursday night game, 14 Sunday arvo games and 1 Monday night game. But they dont play a Thursday night game in the final round to allow teams to have a full weeks rest before finals. That makes it easy to draw 2 teams that play on Sunday to play on a Thursday night only once a year.
