Can everyone stop putting wines into the equation. He’s told the club he’s staying, just finalising length of deal

Operation get Wines

Let's discuss

Honey dripper. Not sure if I should be hungry, offended or tantalised. Not misunderstanding. I get it. We are all looking for answers to a challenging puzzle yet none of us have the insight or resources that a recruiting team has. No issue.
Hungry. Definitely hungry.

On Lloyd, I think we could comfortably fit him in the backline without forcing out anyone important.

Lloyd, Marchbank, Plowman
Docherty, Weitering, Williamson

Byrne on the interchange.
Jones or Rowe come in for Byrne if we come up against a side that has a particularly tall forward line, and Willo moves up the ground.

The bigger question is what we'd have to trade for him and whether there would be a more appropriate acquisition we could make for the same price. Mids and athletic medium forwards should be higher on our shopping list.

Why is there any debate about Lloyd being in our best 22? He will be our second best running defender behind Doc straight away.

I agree a small/medium forward and mids are the highest priority, but we should get another good running defender if available...it's a higher priority than people think.

Simmo is retiring this year or next and is on the decline anyway.
Thomas has done OK this year but we would want him out of the backline if possible.
Doc is the obvious gun but coming off a knee reco.
Byrne is injury prone and not proven.
Willo looks good but 2nd year player and missing a whole year of footy.
Mullett is depth.
Schumacher and McDaid are completely unproven and look very raw.

So in my eyes we only really have Doc, Willo and Byrne and they are all coming off an injury plagued year.

I reckon our 2019 2nd gets the deal done (Sydney won't love it but begrudgingly accept imo...they gave up Mitchell for pick 14 with little fight) and i would definitely do that.

OK but I will never question a player getting paid. They aren't in the game for long and I believe they should get what they can while they are able. Market forces at play. He got paid when he was a premiership midfielder, as he should, and he took a cut when he wasn't there anymore. No issue. Prolonged his pay day and still contributing nicely though I wish he would spoil more often if he is going to man up down back. He is the one dealing with the panel beaten body for the rest of his life, if he gets paid, good luck to him. We are the suckers for allowing Malthouse to further mortgage our future.
I like the statement he made and by all reports he is good for club culture. Happy to have Thomas on the list.
"Happy to have Thomas on the list" - seriously how do guys like Macreadie, Cuningham, McKay or Weitering not get a game every week before a guy like Thomas??????
Everything that's wrong with the Carlton footy club in 2018..............oh how we have come to fully embrace mediocrity! (should be the 2018 slogan).

All those guys are either injury or fill a different context. I think the first half of the season has established that we had been going into games tall and slow. Thomas is smaller, more mature and skilled enough to hold his own at least. He isn't in the medium or long term plans but we need him for now. Who is he really holding out? Williamson? Injured. Cuningham? Returning from injury. Doc, Byrne? Injured. Only nine listed players got a run for Northern on the weekend, we are hardly flush for options. Oh how I dream for mediocrity!

it's like he gets a little constipated and it angers him and he needs to take it out on someone so he runs into the basement and just types and types

Love the way you are thinking. Class will come with time and experience. Don't want to sell the farm to get it. Back to the draft and continue thinking long term. If a quality candidate nominates us then assess and potentially jump. Otherwise build the kids. You can see Dow, LOB and even Jack on the weekend growing already.
I dont think anyone nominates without a power of work being put into them by the recruiting department. So no one (of quality) nominates until they have been targeted.

*Takes one look at interested club Carlton.

Wines: "Oh hell no! HURRY UP POWER & LOCK ME IN!!!"
He will probably "Ignore" the outside noise and re-sign.
Players like Wines will probably want to become one club players, hopefully people with good morals won't become "extinct".
I won't complain if it does happen though.

If Casboult comes back and plays some good footy, what’s he worth on the open market pick wise?
IIRC ...
He tested the market end of last year before signing a 2 year deal with us.
He tested the market the year before and got a 1 year deal with us.
Let’s say a Moore leaves Collingwood and they, despite rumours to the contrary, miss out on Lynch. Third round pick at best ...
Otherwise, a free agent end of 2019.

Carlton

Averaging 24 disposals through the first four rounds as a midfielder in the WAFL colts for Subiaco, Will Hickmott (son of Adrian) is viewed as a potential late or rookie draft chance.

Providing a marking presence up forward for Oakleigh, Ben Silvagni (son of Stephen) has averaged almost seven marks over his past five games. At 194cm, Silvagni is a genuine key forward. He is firmly in the mix to be selected in the second half of the draft.

Daisy is doing OK this year. And sacrificed to be here.
Who sacrificed?
Daisy?
Are you talking about doing away with the games trigger last year?
He got paid his $700k plus for last year, and then is paid market rate (which is significantly lower) for this year.
Doing ok? Had a good start to the season, but a horrible last 3 weeks or so.

Daisy has done more than ok out of us and we sacrificed / compromised in giving him a long-term contract. Not least the FA compensation for losing Betts.

Future first for Wines, or future first for one of GC's top picks (4 or 5) and on-trade that for Wines.

Can't see any other way to do it, Port would understandably want a top 5 pick.

Unfort there’d need to be multiple 1st rounders thrown in for Vino.

Would love to be able to wing the PSD (apart from a shifty O’Shea pick) for a massive non-trade for a quality player.
