He got paid his $700k plus for last year, and then is paid market rate (which is significantly lower) for this year.
Doing ok? Had a good start to the season, but a horrible last 3 weeks or so.

Daisy has done more than ok out of us and we sacrificed / compromised in giving him a long-term contract. Not least the FA compensation for losing Betts.

You missed my point. He gets lambasted for the massive contract but, I don't begrudge any professional athlete getting paid. And I do believe his contractual decision to resign endeared him to the public and management as well as extending his career.
And yes, he has done OK on the field. Hardly setting the world on fire and is inconsistent. Completely different role this year due to Doc injury and is getting a run. I hate what we gave up for him but that's on management, not him. If anything management made it harder for him to succeed due to unrealistic expectations. The bottom line is, he is filling a role on the list and doing OK.

Averaging 24 disposals through the first four rounds as a midfielder in the WAFL colts for Subiaco, Will Hickmott (son of Adrian) is viewed as a potential late or rookie draft chance.

Providing a marking presence up forward for Oakleigh, Ben Silvagni (son of Stephen) has averaged almost seven marks over his past five games. At 194cm, Silvagni is a genuine key forward. He is firmly in the mix to be selected in the second half of the draft.

They're just safe later in the draft type picks and they're just kids. School/junior football is a different kettle of fish.

yes classy runners, users and accumulators all rolled into one. I think we have one in Dow in 2-3 years . Fisher and SPS are travelling okay but have a bit to go. They will need to be supported with superstars around them and we only have Cripps.

AFL GREATS have called on the league to introduce priority picks for teams that have missed the finals for a number of years in a row, with one fearing that teams “are losing a generation of supporters”. A number of teams are currently in the midst of extended droughts without featuring in September, some looking another few years away from a return to the finals.

Brisbane (without a finals berth since 2009), St Kilda (since 2011), Gold Coast (since creation in 2011) and Carlton (since 2013, when they finished ninth but were elevated above Essendon) all look certain to miss out in 2018, although Melbourne (since 2006) would need a major collapse to miss out from their current 8-3 record. That saw Brownlow medallist Gerard Healy suggests on Monday night’s edition of On the Couch that a system of priority draft picks for those who miss finals for three or four consecutive years should be introduced.

Don't necessarily agree with this concept but if they give us one then I won't complain either.

I don't think there's one change that could be made to fix things - it's probably gotta be a review of the whole draft/free agency/salary cap combination.

Something like the bottom 8 sides getting an extra pick each before the draft proper.

Priority Round: 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11
Round 1: 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Round 2: 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

So the wooden spooner gets Picks 1 and 9. A team that just missed finals gets Pick 15 or 16. The premiers get Pick 26.

Band 1 free agency compo - end of priority round
Band 2 free agency compo - end of round 1
Band 3 free agency compo - end of round 2
(Marquee players band 1, Best 22 types Band 2, depth players Band 3 - would need a new model to classify players)

Shouldn't be any issues with teams trying to tank to get an extra pick, because the teams sitting 9th and 10th are usually within reach of finals at the end of the season and that would/should be a greater prize to chase.

Further assistance should then be limited to AFL grants for facilities, or extended spending caps (with possible financial support) for coaching/support staff. If a club is struggling to retain and develop players effectively, more picks doesn't help, but improved facilities and extra/better coaches might.


That's my train of thought anyway. Probably full of holes, but I think it at least provides a framework where the bottom sides get to bring in talent, the top sides get to be top now but should slide sooner, and the basketcase clubs get administrative support to help them catch up.

Reading draft writeups I wonder if Silvagnis could be our version of the Abletts?

All time great dad...shorter older son starts as a forward then moves on ball...taller son stays forward.

obviously jsos will never turn as good as ablett, but one can dream.

Never be as good as G Abblett but gee I wouldn't mind a Jobe Watson version. Jobe had a very similar start to his career at Essendon then found his feet after almost being delisted. Was strong over the ball and made great decisions with it. Im quite optimistic with the JSOS being developed in the middle...we just may be onto something...His form in the seconds certainly gives us all hope.. Smart player our JSOS...very high football IQ-needs another 5-10 kilos.

194cm is a nice size...

If we get Lukoscious and develop him in the seconds, & with De Koning and probably Kerr/ McKay for at least another 1-2 years what are we going to develop BSOS into exactly ??.

Love the concept of having a few good developing talls in the forward 50 and maybe on trading high in the future but we're going to have stacked bookends with very little quality in the middle other than Crippa...

At a minimum Port will want this year's 1st to snag Lukoscius and then some. If it were just a matter of swapping this year's first for Wines then absolutely. Perhaps we can package O'Shea and Lobbe back to Alberton.
