Something that I have been noticing Jed do a lot and is proving to be very valuable is in contested situations where he may not be able to get the ball, is that he manages to get a hand in to knock the ball clear to one of our others outside the contest. Those acts do not get counted as a stat but gee they are very good contributions.

Stats wise it was an average day, but he was immense in the coalface, pressurized contests with multiple follow up acts and pressure acts.

Its the old bash and crash fwd from Hawks that he would of used to practice with Cyril and co.

Don't think he will ever be able to move or dispose of the ball like Higgins (but in fairness most wouldn't).

All I require from him is crumbing goals forward now and then and everything else is tackling and applying monster pressure crash and bash football roughing up opponents. Which he always seems to deliver on the latter.

His skills can probably get better too, its not like his ceiling has been reached despite his age, its more a lack of consistent games of footy.

Jed Anderson up and running as new deal looms

North Melbourne midfielder Jed Anderson has confirmed negotiations are in train to keep him at the Kangaroos beyond 2018.

The 24-year-old is enjoying his most consistent season of football after his first full pre-season at the club and is rapt that he looks set to have his contract renewed as a result.

He joined North Melbourne in 2016 on a three-year deal after being traded from Hawthorn but the deal looked to have delivered little for the Kangaroos after Anderson was plagued by injury in his first two seasons.

However the Kangaroos kept the faith and outlined to him what was required to prepare for 2018. He has since shown rapid improvement as a tough midfielder who rotates forward.

Anderson has played 13 games this year to bring his career tally to 38 since his debut in 2013.

"We're in negotiations at the moment. Nothing is finalised but we're talking through that and it will be good outcome for what I put in during the off-season," Anderson told Fairfax Media.

"It will work out in due time and at the moment [I am] just enjoying playing footy."

Anderson said he always believed he could play good footy once he had an injury-free run.

"I did not think about the contract. I just stuck my head down and focused on getting my body right," Anderson said.

The Kangaroos are also in talks with out-of-contract defender Luke McDonald and running free agent Shaun Atley.

Both players are understood to be happy where the talks are at, with Atley saying it is becoming increasingly common for players to remain unsigned throughout their free agency year.

"It seems like that. There are a lot more players in free agency delaying their contracts or just waiting until the end of the year which I suppose they're entitled to," Atley said.

Atley has proven a durable player for North Melbourne in a variety of roles.

Watching from the ground, I thought he was everywhere early.

20 touches (9 contested), 4 clearances, 8 tackles from 69% TOG (unusually low) is a pretty good return.

A few skill errors, but certainly not on his Pat Malone there. Seems to be lacking a bit of confidence in front of goal though, really mishit a couple of his shots. But overall, think he was still a strong contributor.

There was one attack on the man in the last quarter that made the crowd cheer gladiator-style.

Might be off with his use but by jingo, he's still contributing.

Brought a mate who doesn't watch footy to the game yesterday. He loved Anderson's bash and crash game style. Really tackles to hurt does our Jed.

His tackling style makes him look like he's played a bit of Rugby League or Union before ie they cant go far when you've driven their ribs through their backbone !

keep it up Jed , got a hell of a future especially if he tidys up his disposal a little
