I dunno, perhaps a footy forum needs topics to discuss. Just a thought

Okay, let's say Carlton are offering $7 million over 5. In what world would you take that when Richmond would be offering around the $6.5 million over 5, Collingwood something similar and Hawthorne a bit less?Money, returning home, playing with a young list. May not be ideal but surely the Blues have money to throw around.
AgreeWhy would Tom Lynch leave a basket case in Gold Coast to go to the only team that is a bigger basket case? He'll chase success and decent money rather than maximum money. If he wanted maximum money he'd already do just fine at Gold Coast.

So in other words when life gives you Lemmens you say **** this I'm done with footy. If my team traded in Sean Lemmens I'd give up on AFL for ever
Reckon we need to be looking to add another small defender to the list (draft/trade/FA) from whichever source.
McKenna and Saad are only only 2 true small defenders that are best 22 and we have little to no depth behind them.
McGrath seems destined for a midfield role
McNiece is on the chopping block and older than the above
Baguley has one year left at most and is too slow to defend

eth-dog** for the record, Adam Kennedy could be gettable from GWS imho.

If there's any area we don't need, it's that. Redman, Saad, McKenna, McNiece (on the chopping block? Coaches disagree), Gleeson, Guelfi, McGrath (has played both defence and midfield this year) and Ridley as small/medium defenders.Reckon we need to be looking to add another small defender to the list (draft/trade/FA) from whichever source.

Yes, because we don't.eth-dog said we didn't need one a few pages ago so that is that

Yes, because we don't.
It's the easiest area to fill. We have a glutton of options there. We have other areas needing attention, such as young key forwards, inside and outside midfielders and quite possibly rucks. We don't need more defenders.Saad and McKenna best 22
Redman and Ridley are not sure things (yet) and Ridley is closer to Gleeson being 190cm+, you could almost include Francis in this bracket.
Gleeson whilst capable of playing small to a degree is not a small defender.
McNiece's future is up in the air with him being on the rookie list and not contracted for next year.
Guelfi is a mid.
I am not saying take one early, but if there is a suitable player available late in the draft ala Zerk-Thatcher we should take a close look.
your forgetting a very good player in gleeson....we need big bodied mids to work in tandem with our small midsReckon we need to be looking to add another small defender to the list (draft/trade/FA) from whichever source.

Is a small defender the same thing as a linebreaking HBF?
I think the problem some of us are trying to point out is that whilst we have sufficient SD depth we don't have a lot of running HBs Saad, McKenna and McGrath who is a mid. They don't have to be mutually exclusive.
Saad can provide run out of defense while simultaneously playing a negating role on a dangerous small forward. In an ideal world you'd prefer that over having to play a limited player such as McNiece who offers nothing offensively.

One I feel we don't need. We're likely to sign Stewart, Laverde, Langford, Goddard (maybe), Dea, Hartley, McKernan, Brown, Lavender, McNiece (despite the whinging on this board) and Mynott at this stage. Which leaves 5 players in the air with their contracts. Not many list spots after that. It's a delisted free agent/late pick/rookie position
I have, and I disagree. It's an area we have plenty of options IMO.read what quotemokc said!
Saad & McKenna are best 22 and running/rebounding defenders. McGrath is set to be transitioned into a midfielder whilst we are here.
Redman is a rebounder in the mould of the above 3.
Ridley and Gleeson are more medium defenders.
McNeice will likely be delisted come years end.
Guelfi is not a midfielder.
So a lock down small defender is something we do not possess hence the reason why McNeice is getting games now.

Also the call on McNiece is hilarious. If he's "likely be delisted" he wouldn't be getting games right now. If they'd have made that call already he'd be in the reserves right now. Why are you going hell for leather for me for thinking we don't need any more defenders? Especially given we'll likely add another defender in Fletcher come seasons end.

Brown and McKernan are both seen as forwards right now and Hartley as a defender. They'll be cheap and have little injury worries (except maybe Brown) and it isn't as if we have young options presenting themselves as alternatives right now. And given Ambrose's injuries over the past couple of years delisting Hartley doesn't seem to be the wisest of choices if Hooker/Hurley miss. Of course someone like Geelong or Melbourne or Sydney should be trying to lure him given their KPD issues as well, even West Coast should have a look.Surely we only sign one of Goddard/Dea and two of Hartley/Mckernan/Brown.
