Okay, let's say Carlton are offering $7 million over 5. In what world would you take that when Richmond would be offering around the $6.5 million over 5, Collingwood something similar and Hawthorne a bit less?

Why would Tom Lynch leave a basket case in Gold Coast to go to the only team that is a bigger basket case? He'll chase success and decent money rather than maximum money. If he wanted maximum money he'd already do just fine at Gold Coast.

Its why i think we're a perfect fit for each other.

Our missing piece right now are targets in the forward line. We've gone back to the Alwn Davey tactic with Tippa, kicking it to him to outmark a pack of defenders.
Replace Brown and Smack with Lynch and Daniher (Plus Long and Colyer with Stringer and Fantasia) and we have the best fwd line in the comp.

Money is the issue.
Unless we free up cash via Berger, Green, Goddard (retire or smaller contract).

This week will highlight that if both Saad and McKenna are out.

Luckily, they are the type of player that can be picked up mid/late draft or as Yoda points out there might be a few floating around other clubs that may be cheap recruit. Considering our fondness of GWS players Kennedy might be a good option, he should have a few suitors though. Jayden Short could be forced out if tiges get lynch, Jayden Hunt couldn't get into Melbourne's team and is now injured.

One of the kids this year I really like who'll likely be a mid/late range pick is Daly Andrews, aggressive outside runner, hard at the contest, hits packs at speed, kicking can be patchy but there's enough to build on.

Redman and Ridley are not sure things (yet) and Ridley is closer to Gleeson being 190cm+, you could almost include Francis in this bracket.

Gleeson whilst capable of playing small to a degree is not a small defender.

McNiece's future is up in the air with him being on the rookie list and not contracted for next year.

Guelfi is a mid.

I am not saying take one early, but if there is a suitable player available late in the draft ala Zerk-Thatcher we should take a close look.

your forgetting a very good player in gleeson....we need big bodied mids to work in tandem with our small mids

They don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Saad can provide run out of defense while simultaneously playing a negating role on a dangerous small forward. In an ideal world you'd prefer that over having to play a limited player such as McNiece who offers nothing offensively.

I think the problem some of us are trying to point out is that whilst we have sufficient SD depth we don't have a lot of running HBs Saad, McKenna and McGrath who is a mid.

Each to there own, the masses seem to disagree but that is your opinion.

I feel the club wants Ben to succeed. As a free hit (Cat B) he will (50:50) be kept on the list but imho, would look to upgrade him with a proven quantity at AFL level.

Brown and McKernan are both seen as forwards right now and Hartley as a defender. They'll be cheap and have little injury worries (except maybe Brown) and it isn't as if we have young options presenting themselves as alternatives right now. And given Ambrose's injuries over the past couple of years delisting Hartley doesn't seem to be the wisest of choices if Hooker/Hurley miss. Of course someone like Geelong or Melbourne or Sydney should be trying to lure him given their KPD issues as well, even West Coast should have a look.
