It's small consolation, that out of one of our worst defeats in a long time, we actually saw some good figures. I mean obviously, we always have the shining figure of Patrick Cripps to look up to, but there was substantially more than that this week. We received a substantial uptick in our overall average Player Ratings. We also saw some decent individual ratings boosts. Matthew Kennedy, you start +11 AFL Ratings and a 90 Supercoach Score, bring it on. Cam Polson, where did this come from, plus 13. Love it!

Patrick Cripps - 18 contested disposals, 30 touches, 3 big contested marks, 7 clearances and 2 goals. Matthew Kennedy - 29 touches, 7 clearances for the young bull and he spread well to pick up 7 marks, he also kicked a goal. Nick Graham came in late and did what he always does, perform solidly with 23 touches, 5 tackles and 3 clearances. Caleb Marchbank 21 touches 7 marks and rebound 50's as he continues to rebuild. Weitering came back in and looked very composed, he had 23 touches, 8 marks, including 3 contested marks and he had 4 1%ers. Matt Shaw played well, he had 21 touches, 7 marks and only one clanger. SPS did a little with 19 touches at 84% efficiency. Harrry McKay got a lot but didn't have a whole lotta impact. He had 15 touches, 8 marks and 3 rebound 50's, surprisingly, but didn't hit the scoreboard. The rest didn't contribute a whole lotta everything but I feel it was a solid performance.

Charlie, Dow and Lang the big movers this week, Dow on the back of a career best game, and Lang his best game for the club.

Cripps continues to edge closer to that top 10, will he get there before the end of the year?

Also worth noting Dow ranks 6th among all first year players. He won't win the award, but a top 5 finish in the Rising Star beckons for Paddy Wow.

I think that'll be the most coaches votes our youth have ever picked up in a single game.

It's really invigorating to see that our youth are carrying across the line for victorious where previously we would see Gibbs, Kreuxer, Murphy, Simpson regularly domininaitng the votes when we won.

Wow, look at those results not a single player with negative growth this week and some monumental moves like a huge +17 from Dow which means he's currently sitting sixth over all out of first year players. Just really really positive results.

Patrick... Cripps... is a ****ing... stud. He had 37 touches (thirty-seven), including 17 contested possessions. He had 2 contested marks in his 6 marks for the game. He had 5 clearances in the middle, god around th eground to pick up 6 rebound 50's and 5 inside 50's and he laid 11 tackles and a goal to boot. Brilliant. SPS had probably his best game for the Blues picking up 26 touches at 73%, 5 inside 50's and 2 goal assists. Paddy Dow take a bloody bow, yes he ripped an absolute rippa coast to coast goal and had 18 touches, 4 goals and 3 clearances. Charlie Curnow popped up nicely with a goal and was an essential link man on the wing covering the ground well to collect 10 marks and 8 inside 50's. Caleb marchbank is just so so important for us, he had 16 touches and controlled the backline when he wans't getting spoiled by Weitering, he finished with 4 marks (including a contested mark) and 5 1%ers. Darcy Lang, where did this come from? 20 touches, 5 marks and 9 tackles was impressive form the recent addition. Ciraran Byrne, yes please, we needed his run, he had 13 otuches, 4 1%ers and 3 inside 50's off half back. Matthew Kennedy had 23 touches and 5 clearances - keep it up!. Jed Lamb had 15 touches and 5 1%ers, who would have known. Lochie O'Brien had 12 touches and 4 inside 50's and is imporving and building well this season. Jacob Weitering looked great after slotting back into the side and had 7 1%ers, 5 marks and 15 touches. SOS kicked a lovely goal, laid 4 big tackles and had 11 touches. Harry McKay, if only that goal went in the book, he ahd 9 touches and 6 marks, yes! Jarrod Picket laid 5 tackles in providing excellent forward pressure. Cam Polson also piled on the rpessure and although he only had 4 touches he laid 4 tackles.

It is awesome to be able to follow the progress of the younger players and be able to see where they are improving without resorting to observations and gut feel only.

Have said it before, will say it again ... great thread FBI. Hope the improvement of the players motivates you to see this through to the end of the rebuild.

Worth noting also that we have now matched last year in terms of the number of games we've got into our youth.

With 3 more rounds to go before the end of the season, expect that number to rise by another 30-40 (assuming we take between 10-14 youth players into each game).

NB - these figures don't include youth players who have since dropped off the list, nor do they include those who I do not consider a real chance to be a part of our core going forward.

Above all else this indicates to me that despite a very challenging year on the injury front, we have not wavered from the plan to invest heavily in our youth.

This is a terrific effort IMO especially considering we've been without Doc & Williamson all year, Macreadie is yet to feature, and all of Fisher, Plowman, Weitering, Kennedy, Marchbank, Lang, Pickett, Cuningham and Byrne have been hit by injuries over the course of the season.

Season average so far is 14.2 disposals, 3.2 tackles, 0.3 goals which aren't great numbers at first glance, then you look a bit deeper and see 7.4 CP, 2.4 in50, 2.5 clearances which is a decent result for a first year player.

He's 2 pre-seasons away from exploding IMO, he nearly breaks most tackles and he's a skinny kid.

IMO freo are similar to us last year. The last bastion of seasoned players carrying the kids.

While having a better list of senior players. That is not how I would judge a rebuilding list

I don't think you can compare the position Carlton found itself in to any other club.

Hawthorn moved on Hodge, Lewis and Sam but at the same time brought in O'Meara and Tom. That is NOT a rebuild, that is barely a renovation, moreso just throwing out some old furniture/appliances and getting new models.

What Carlton had to do was more akin to a total demolition job, knock down every roof, wall and furnishing bar one or two items.

42 player turn over, we wiped an entire coaching staff and replaced all of them as well. We weren't rebuilding from around the middle of the table we were having to start rebuilding from a lower point than any club has to and that is a failing of the people and attitude that put us there.

We have drafted some good solid young men who will be pillars in years to come but can't be expected to hold everything up on their own.

This is the REAL recession we had to have.

Technically everything we do prior to round one next season is part of the rebuild.

That was always the planned start of the climb back up the ladder.
