And if true he won't be alone.

I don't really care as long as it doesn't negatively impact his professionalism or his performance.
Yeah, because taking recreational drugs is professional- there's no level of "I'm a professional" but choose to act unprofessionally, it doesn't work that way.....There's always an element of it around but you do everything possible to keep it as far away as you can.
Culture & team is built on commitment and buy in, both on & off the field.

Technically so is drinking - should we not recruit anyone who likes to consume alcohol during the season?

If your rumour is true, I'd say he is an idiot, but we can't be so naive as to suggest he is alone. There would be many doing similar across the competition, including at our own club.

If what he does outside of the club gets in the way of what he should be doing at the club, then there is an issue. But as long as he does the work he needs to do on the track and on game day? Play on.

Drinking isn't illegal & you dont need that shit around the club- you need complete buy in, to rebuild you cant have half efforts buy some. Your entitled to your opinion but mines the opposite on this, I'd be running a 2 strike policy informally at the club - strike 2 you get traded- we have too much riding on this rebuild & its going to be hard enough as it is.

Not sure bombers or hawks could offer Shiel more cash than we can however if he decides to leave and choose one of the other clubs then that’s just bad luck for us.
They'd be more appealing to play at though. This is where we need to get better.

I'm not too sure how many triggers and clauses you can actually put in an AFL contract, with a salary cap that is pretty much hard capped.

Sure it makes sense in the NBA where teams can exceed the cap in certain scenarios, but in an AFL contract if the base contract is 250k and clauses etc can increase it to say 350k, then thats 100k thats basically dead salary and has to be accounted for regardless if the player triggers the clause or not.
But if that player needs to play 20 games for that, but only plays 10, then its only 50k. The other 50k then goes towards another player playing the 10 game shortfall.

So inessence match payments are allocated for the 22 x 22 spots irrespective of who may play during the year. That total shouldnt change much as long as match payments are fairly uniform across the board.

It would be sheer folly to allocate 22 games of match payments to everyone on the list as its not possible for everyone to play every week.

It's a funny situation.

What makes a bit of MDMA any different to an alcohol binge?

Both aren't great physiologically.
Forget the law. It's bullshit.

Would I prefer all our players didn't drink, smoke or use recreational drugs? Obviously, but yeah right that's gonna happen.

from their board. Although SOS went as well.

Also IIRC Brad Lloyd was the only recruiter which went to the US to study Live trading. All that IP goes to Carlton and is there any record of the info gathered?
On that alone it could be an astute decision to get Lloyd.

Hmm, SOS now has to report to the Freo List Manager? Matthew has the knowledge that his brother is effectively SOS's boss. Interesting.

I'm going to look at this as the appointment of the son of John Lloyd, 29 game Blues defender from 1965-1967.

Watch Matthew Lloyd suddenly stop sinking the boots into Carlton next year.

'Plenty of conflicts in footy Matthew..'

Hawks trying to lure Mitchell with offer of being groomed by Clarkson, Carlton still feels like they are in the box seat saying that Mitchell would be better suited with a variety of experience under different head coaches. Hawks saying that's hardly true as Bolts is Clarksons underling anyway.

Fas is basically a free hit with little downside. Club trying to get into Eddie as well, 1/2 year contract then being moved into a coaching/mentor role similar to what Walker was doing before he left but also working with the fwds.

You can’t be serious Dr Plow?

For what's it's worth imo its Travis Boak. Midfielder, captain, I think he followed Carlton (not that it matters much). But he was played out of position this year to allow for Wingard etc in the midfield. I'd love him to come to Carlton.

His late father Roger was definitely a Blues fan !

Both are drugs that act on the central nervous system.

One is a significant cause of chronic liver disease requiring transplant, a trigger for irresponsible behaviour leading to fatal motor vehicle accidents, falls from height resulting in permanent disability, etc.

The other has been extensively criminalised.

From a medical point of view, alcohol causes a greater burden of disease and it's not even close.

Beams - (28 - apparently back to Vic)
May (26 - OOC 2019)
Lynch (25 - OOC 2018)
Roughead (31 - OOC 2018)
Boak (30 - OOC 2019)

These are the ones that make sense to me as well. Ward (28 - OOC 2019) would be out of the blue. Could be a good shout and would be rapt if we were after him. Age demographic of May makes the most sense though and suits what we are trying to do.

Majority of people like to stick their head in the sand and pretend like drug use isn't common. There is an extraordinary number of players in the AFL that dabble in recreational drugs. Unlike alcohol they don't impact skin folds and can be out of the system almost quicker.
