Struggling to find words tonight... But this man (Simmo) deserves every bit of praise that comes his way. He has truly brought our club into the “modern” era so to speak, his ideas, approach is just outstanding. The way in which he cares for the players, he genuinely loves them and the feeling seems to be mutual. So thankful and proud to have him leading this great club. He is an immortal now and who knows, by the end of his tenure he could challenge Mick for number one! Love you Simmo :hearts:

He's incredible.

For him to visit Tom Cole's very sick father and attend the funeral was amazing. For him and Jamie Graham to spend time in Willie Rioli's home town with Willie's family is amazing.

Too see Simmo cry when Nic hurt his knee shows genuine love for his boys. Even after the win today he made none of the win about him. It was about his boys.

Thank you, simmo.

Biggie my man we did brother I downed a few beers and wines and a whisky
My man!

I’ve crawled into bed but alas I can’t put big footy down haha

LOVE YOU ALL MY PEEEPS

This guy really knows how to coach.

He's taught your players how to set up your structure and find the right position so well - McGovern is fantastic at this. The Eagles players all seem to know where the ball is coming and how to force the opposition to kick it where it suits them when coming into the backline.

Credit to him... done a great job. I admired this yesterday, which you can do as a fan of the sport despite the result.

Has made this his team. He got a big core of it from the end of the Worsfold era. The guys who crossmixed with the previous generation of premiership stars and made some gallant runs in 2011 and 2012. He added some of his own touches and 2015 was a preview of what was to come. But then landed in a grand final, perhaps prematurely, against an unbelievable opponent, and got smacked. I reckon 2016 and 2017 we were pretty much still reeling from that beatdown. A lot of our wins didn't seem like us, started to get our shit together late in 2016 but Nic's knee went and then that pre-finals bye threw us off and the Bulldogs ambushed us perfectly. We blew a lot of winnable games in 2017 but there were signs at the tailend when... of all teams... Collingwood gave us the chance to sneak into the finals. I think it took nearly missing finals to wake them up a bit. They knocked off Adelaide to qualify and then that OT thriller over Port and some belief was back with us. Forget the GWS final... we were farked prep wise and never in it. I remember last year's B&F and Simmo's speech. He said there was something building.

I never came in thinking we're a flag chance this year. Round 1 against Sydney I was just proud of the boys' effort. Then 10 in a row and shit gets real. This flag is a testament to him. So proud to have a coach of outstanding character and belief in his team. Here's to many more under his reign!

Ahh I’d forgotten about this.

Great memory.

Building something indeed.

A bloody premiership

“We haven’t been the fairytale this year. We haven’t been the destiny of a side. It’s always been about someone else.

“And you guys (the Victorian media), rightly so, it’s Melbourne teams that have been about with all that. And we’ve just been sliding through – pretty big at home I must admit. It hasn’t been about us until probably the last two minutes of the game.”

Bang. Bang.

Somewhere along the line in the back half of last year the club changed course. After the 2015 GF the belief was the club had the foundations of a premiership and they were close. Very close.

Redden (strong bodied mid) and Jetta (outside pace) were brought in to fill what I’m sure the club thought were the missing pieces of the puzzle but they underwhelmed in their first year. Despite winning the same number of H&A games (16) as 2015 we could only manage a 6th place finish and were knocked out in week 1 of the finals by eventual premiers, the bulldogs. A late season knee injury to Naitanui cruelled our season and on face value was a major blow to our chances in 2017

In the 2016 offseason Mitchell fell into our lap whilst Vardy and Petrie were brought in as stop gaps to offset the loss of Naitanui and also Lycett who had his own injury issues. The belief was we could again challenge for a flag

Unfortunately as the season progressed it became increasingly obvious that we were going backwards. The introduction of Mitchell alongside Priddis exposed a one paced midfield even further and a number of veterans were struggling. Simpson seemed intent on backing those that had past credits at the expense of giving opportunities to those with solid WAFL form. TBH it wasn’t working

In many respects the nadir of our season was the much heralded announcement of a contract extension for Priddis amongst much fanfare from the club. I don’t think they expected the negative reaction to what they thought was “Pridda Good News”. Priddis would eventually announce the 2017 season would be his last. As did Mitchell

To many it seemed too little too late as a handful of youngsters (read Partington) got a taste and Simpson was at pains to stress to anyone who’d listen that there’d be significant list changes at the end of 2017 and we’d be a much different, younger team in 2018. He wasn’t lying

Enter 2018. We debuted 3 players in round 1 and 8 for the year. Simpson learned a lot in 2017 I think and this year he’s looked more assured and there’s been a sense of calm across the playing group all season no matter what challenges were thrown in front of them. Simpson has backed his players at all times, embraced the fans and been brutally efficient when dealing with the media

He’s driven a cultural shift in the club to the point where our players are being applauded for cleaning up the change rooms post game. Compare that to 2006

Simpson has 3 x 16 win H&A seasons out of 5 under his belt, missed finals in his first year by one spot and never since, made two grand finals with an overall finals record now of 6-3 and can now call himself a premiership coach

We have a fantastic man guiding our club

Simmo has always had premiership coach attributes.

He's just a great man Leader and human being....

Could not be happier for this bloke came over embraced the club the state the people !

Overtakes Worsfold for me as a coach

Agreed.

No Cox/Judd/Cousins/Kerr to drag this team over the line, we were also lucky with injuries in 2006 and then when we lost those players at various points from 2007 onwards Woosha got exposed.

Simmo had a system that got us to the 2015 GF, then had a rethink and rejigged the system that took us to the flag three years later.

If we win another under Simmo he overtakes Malthouse imo.
