5 was an unlucky number for the Pies.

5 goals in front.

55-55 at three quarter time

Lose by 5 points

What number did Nathan Buckley wear at Collingwood?

Also 2018 is the fifth GF Bucks has somehow been involved in: 02, 03, 10, 11, 18 (okay 10 twice), though not as coach or player in 10-11.

You can rephrase it to 5th year that Bucks has been involved in a VFL/AFL Grand Final.

If a West Coach coach makes it past 2 years he will win a grand final in his fifth year in charge.

Malthouse started in 1990 and won in 1994

Worsfold started in 2002 and won in 2006

Simpson started in 2014 won in 2018

They all also lost their first GF at the club in odd numbered years and won in even numbered years.

1979 GF: Collingwood kicked the first five goals, only to lose by 5 points to Carlton. Both sides kicked 11 goals.
2018 GF: As per above, except replace Carlton with West Coast.

Thanks to footyfan78 for this (well, I did add the both sides kicking 11 goals bit.....)

WCE trailed by exactly two goals at half time during Grand finals in 92 and 2018, yet won.

WCE has won a Grand Final twice after losing one previously 3 years before, both times against Hawthorn.

1994 eagles beat Pies in qualifier at subi, Dees in Prelim at subi then win at the G vs a Victorian club.

2018 refer above.

And Eagles half time score was exactly the same in 1994 and 2018. both opening quarters WCE kicked 4 goals vs the Dees, held them to two goals in the last quarter and held them goalless. Eagles won by 65 in 1994 and 66 in 2018. Their first quarter score was 4.7 in 1994 and 4.8 in 2018.

WTF. Both years finished 16-6 in home and away season.

In both 1979 and 2018, Collingwood finished 3rd on the ladder, lost the Qualifying Final and then won the Semi Final and Preliminary Final to make the Grand Final.

In 1994, Eagles beat Collingwood in a Qualifying Final and Melbourne in a Preliminary Final at the WACA (the only two finals ever played at that venue).

In 2018, Eagles beat Collingwood in a Qualifying Final and Melbourne in a Preliminary Final at Optus Stadium (the only two finals played at that venue so far).

Even more crazier. I forgot they were at the WACA.

Malthouse, Worsfold and Simpson were all premiership players at a club

Malthouse Richmond premiership player 1980, West Coast Premiership coach 1992 and 1994
Worsfold West Coast remiership player 1992 and 1994, West Coast Premiership coach 2006
Simpson North Melbourne premiership player 1999, West Coast premiership coach 2018

Mentioned on another "coincidence" thread that both Grand Finals were played on 29 September.
