At the Crows, I can see Brodie Smith taking a lot of the kick-outs away from Laird ......Smith was back R20 &R21 ......when Smith went nuts in R21, Laird had one of his very poor scores
This is the reason im not picking either of Laird or Lloyd.
Have a gut feeling the new rules and returning players will see a drop in their scoring. Will wait until they drop in price a bit before I make a decision to trade them in.

I heard a ridiculous statement from an expert, during the Draft period ....that clubs would now look at drafting specialist kickers

That said, last year Laird took a lot of the kick-ins .....think you'll see this year, Smith taking a lot of kick-in's ...given he roosts it 60 mtrs & with the 20mtr leeway now, he'll hit the centre square

Now that Neale has gone. Yes please.
Yeah. He looks tempting.

There is always someone you start in the back line that you had really good reasons for starting that turns out horrible. Hibberd last year. Jesse Lonergan the year before. Harry “The Prince” Lumumba the year before that. I reckon it is odds on that Blakely is gunna be this year’s big backline regret for me.

Hope not because im keen.

I never had him either...:'( Just in my preseason teams and changed last minute.

Hes not a Shaw type who was getting older, hes 25 in his peak.

I reckon he's probably 30k overpriced but I don't want to find out the hard way by not starting him.
Especially if your midpricers turn to shite and you spend the first 6 weeks fixing that mess.

Thuggee_Cult do you see him continuing in this role for the foreseeable future?

I can't see him changing roles. Newman is gone, McVeigh getting longer in the tooth. Mills will come back in but they play totally different roles (plus he could go in the midfield). Jones is the only other player who is similiar but he will also likely spend more in the mids.

That said I don't think he will match the 2018 output but he could easily be a top 2-3 defender again, you are right about his peak though - he is totally on top of his game.

Blakey from Freo for $460K anyone?
Each year a player becomes the talk of this forum ....I'm not sure how that "noise" starts, but this year it's Blakey .....I've loved him since he was drafted, but I'm interested how he became SC player from the clouds this year.....was there a media piece that pricked everyone's interest?

He has put on 6 kilos

What are you hearing about Blakely's role in 2019 ? .....are you picking him?
Contested ball pig in juniors who has a great tank and size. Then Neale left.

Freo need that main ball winner and he's the next best thing to Neale at Freo

I think all roads lead to Seymour Skinner. He was on about him before last season being mid only and has spruiked him again recently.

Never played a full season. Injured too often.
With Neale gone the ol' "more midfield minutes" keeps cropping up.
Ross Lyon ends up playing him in a back pocket.
Couple of pros some may say, he's cheap and in a contract year.

Has trap written all over him.

Oh I agree ....thought he would have made a bigger mark before this season though .....he's been on my watch list the last 2 years, but his scoring / price just made him an awkward proposition

Is there a question on his tank? .....because you'd think he's a natural inside mid

In my defence, I would still be picking him if in Neale was there anyways.
I'm not on him for the more mid minutes, I'm on him because I reckon the kids a jet.
Check out his scores from round 6-18 in 2017, before he breaks his collarbone in round 19 (at least I'm pretty sure that was his injury).
I can definitely see why people see him as a possible trap tho.

I'm just a massive fan of the kid, wanted the tigs to draft Weller and him with our first 2 picks in '14, but they both went to Freo the picks immediately after Richmond :'(

+1 ;)

Not at all. Just a comment about Ross and his shenanigans and goings on.
I hope Blakely does progress significantly .....beacuse his average is on a par with Williams the alst 2 seasons .....but Blakely is some $60K more expensive

For me it was lurking on the Freo board and seeing a few posters on there getting a bit excited... probably not the best way to pick SC players TBH because of course the Freo board is full of hope and excitement at this time of the year ...
