The new Shiel deal & his kicking

The Essendon footy club were unrepentant about their systemic doping regime and the AFL did their level best to sweep things under the rug and minimise the damage.

So why would anyone be surprised about them colluding over salary cap cheating?

Culture.

Free agency was only going to work fairly for all clubs if the AFL was transparent about player salaries and vigorously policed the salary cap. But it’s quite clear from all the side deals which players are able to make that the salary cap rules are toothless and the current system is a farce.

But what do you expect from an organisation that ticked off the Buddy Franklin deal, effectively stealing him away from Hawthorn and paying him millions on the side to be the AFL ambassador & public face of footy in Sydney.

The AFL is a shitty corrupt competition where the people in charge just make up the rules as they go along.

To be fair most clubs probably do this crap, it would be interesting to see all the arrangements though

FFS it's 20k which isn't a pimple on the buttock if a significant amount of money for Dylan. I know of a Real Estate agency that usually has multiple kids of clients doing work experience. Property is the classic long term way to build wealth, and learning the business makes sense.

Not seeing the evil part of this.

So he is going to France to take advantage of the world leading property courses that a former Essendon coach partook in?

James is putting his knowledge of the property game to good advantage these days, isn't he?

You mean his mother, right? His mother getting a million dollar a year job at Visy after Judd left for Carlton was no coincidence.

This happened way before Judd and Visy. Remember Wanganeen receiving a McDonald's Franchise for signing on with Port Adelaide ?

Interstate (aka Non Victorian) clubs started this third party deal malarkey

Says the poster who’s the top contributor in the Wingard thread on the trade and draft board.
First the saga, now Wingard; in a thread that’s supposed to congratulate Dylan Shiel for laying the foundations for another successful career after football.

While I don't know the historical context, we have gotten away with quite a bit over the years with James McDonald, Dean Brogan, Luke Power and the ageless Sam Reid in terms of coaching contracts. Every club tries to maximise its list's earning potential outside of the cap.

Hope this ends better than Bomber Thompson's "real estate deals" with "Essendon powerbrokers".

Also this, because Essendon seem to try and deny it ever happened while calling us salary cap cheats with a straight face

I’d love to know if there’s actually another person in the country who’s been hired to “learn the property game” and been paid for said learning.
Think it’s more the fact that success will accompany Dylan wherever he goes and whatever he does.
