This reeks.

Makes sense he was 100% Hawthorn bound until x came up(yes he was to the few floggo Essendon twats that will be reading here). It's simple the AFL should ban any part time work, any cash flow from out side your playing contract should be ground for de-registration, stop the crap with clear as cut salary cap cheating.

But it's Essendon. The AFL are still making up for the fact they couldn't protect Essendon from WADA, so there's no way they'll bat an eyelid at this. The old integrity unit just won't be interested.

All been ticked off, 20k side job. I'm available to work, just sayin.

Looks like Hocking has them chasing down the Ablett booers at the moment

If the up to $20k figure is accurate and earned over the course of a year with reasonable work hours put in then I'd say this is surprisingly above board (for Essendon at least) and I would be surprised if some Hawthorn players didn't have similar sort of side jobs.

With that being the case the most interesting part of that article for me now is that Hawthorn wasn't mentioned in the list of clubs who were pursuing Shiel.

The integrity unit that found the Dees not guilty of tanking...

So our bomber man Robbo just drops this little doozy of a tidbit - for what? Just so he can tell us that the AFL says it’s all above board - is that supposed to convince us. This is the same org. that gave the bombers the heads up, allowed out of salary cap hush money and gave them pick 1

For 20k he is obviously the tea boy

These sort of side deals would be throughout the game, Jeremy McGovern is sales director for a building company - I suppose I’m confused as to why they’ve thought it important to let us know

Derm raises a good point. Back in the 80's players wouldn't do these cheap hits from behind, away from the ball. If they did then the umpires would turn the cheek when that player was retaliated against, and those players would know they were going to be hunted down for it.

Now players like Hawkins know they can do it, cop the fine and if anyone retaliates with him in play he can probably get himself a set shot at goal for it.

Any hit graded as intentional needs to be at minimum a week. At the very least make it at minimum a week for players who have a history of pulling this shit.

I am happy with fine first time and then a week next, two weeks the one after, etc...

If that's a low impact bump to the body - I'd love to see vision of medium, high and severe

My preference is this week it was a fine to Hawkins. If someone not just Hawkins does it this week then it’s a week and it flows from there

Yep. Worst of all it’s players hitting Sicily with no repercussion. He touches them and it’s a free shot at goal. It’s a ridiculous double standard. The club needs to be public on this issue. He is targeted every week and not allowed to defend himself.

It's the cool thing to do these days. Players are hailed as gods/funny for whacking Sicily, but Sicily is a grub for dishing it back. Good example was that game against Carlton in 2017 when they beat us. That Lamb campaigner spent the whole game niggling him, pushing him, hitting him and he was a "great tagger, doing a great job". Sicily hit him back, gave away a 50 and a free kick and he was a dirty grub. Kid will never win public affection

This is bang on the money.
A very sad double standard but would be interesting to know why he will never win public affection? Probably brings back memories of old derm or even rekindles the spirit of the unsociable hawks of not so long ago.
**** the public and it’s affection I say but the AFL needs to make a stand and make clear what’s good for one is good for the other, Sicily can’t be taking cheap shots and receiving nothing in return while when he engages in a bit of push and shove or shows a bit of aggression game changing free kicks are given and he is hung out to dry by all and sundry. It’s absolute rubbish.

Imagine if a player did that to Lonergan when he was playing

The AFL has always been about double standards. There’s the protected and then there’s those who a blind eye is turned to when they are on the receiving end

The other thing that’s also getting under my skin is the lack of love for JOM from the umps. Compare his frees to someone like Sloane, Danger or Patrick Cripps. The amount of holding that went on on Monday by cam Guthrie on JOM was just ridiculous.

This has a lot to do with the fact Jaegar plays more as an outside midfielder than the in and under, bottom of the pack mids. No knock on him, just his style is a little less contested (but love his bouncing off oppo fend offs)
