The AFL is having an investigation and sending their integrity unit to look at it.

WTF are they going to do, go and police everyone in the crowd who boos and ban them from attending games? Wonder if the boys and girls who have their bonuses KPI's calculated by crowd numbers, will like seeing 20,000 people per club banned.

A lot of players at Gold Coast had 0 respect for Rocket and this is partially why. He had this idea that yelling/intimidation worked on players. He doesn't realise sprays only work when players actually like you and they have to be rare. None of them gave a shit.

The players had no idea why Bluey was sacked and it was extremely sudden. The feeling around the club was quite optimistic, they had a really good start, fell off a little due to injuries and were looking at addressing it. Suddenly Bluey got sack and player moral fell hard.

Talked with a couple Suns players from that early era. Pretty interesting. The God squad vs druggies angle was extremely overplayed according to them (ie: not a thing).

I'm actually going to defend Ablett in this case, I don't think he is promoting homophobia, he simply liked a post with a homophobic statement in it, but that wasn't the only statement in that post either. If he actually promoted homophobia on his own initiative then he'd be in much bigger trouble, but if that's what he believes in, then I don't see a problem provided he keeps it to himself.

Ablett was getting booed long before Monday, and Monday's game was no different. Is the media only just starting to realise he gets booed, or are they trying to milk out the Folau post liking for all its worth? I'd say it's the latter.

St Kilda midfielder Jack Steele says rugby league great Billy Slater is already having a profound impact in his new role and helped change the AFL club’s culture.Slater last October was appointed to a newly-created part-time leadership role in the club’s football program. And the Storm legend’s tweaks at the Saints are paying early dividends, according to Steele. “He’s already done quite a lot with our culture and our values around the club,” Slater told Fox Sports News. “He’s played in quite a lot of successful sides in the last two decades. Having someone like him at the club is so helpful.” Asked specifically what Slater had changed since arriving at Moorabbin, Steele said: “Just the way we get in the club and get things done. Our attitude towards training and meetings and stuff like that. A few little things that help us and help the young boys get things done properly.”

Second-year Saint Nick Coffield echoed Steele’s sentiments, saying Slater — a dual Storm premiership player, Dally M Medallist and two-time Clive Churchill Medallist — “knows what it takes to be an elite player”. “He’s got so much knowledge, even though it’s in a different code,” Coffield told foxfooty.com.au. “He’s given us little tips on things not to miss and things we should be doing in our first to four years. He said not to wait — if you’re good enough now then you can play.” Steele said Slater had already worked closely with St Kilda’s emerging leaders group and planned to do more one-on-one work with him as the season progresses.

It’s 20 minutes after training on Tuesday and all but two players have left the track following a grueling two-hour session. Two players and Billy Slater. While some players and coaches hit the computers to review vision, Irishman Darragh Joyce and Ed Phillips are going through their usual routine.

The pair are working on getting off the mark and punching a short kick inside the corridor, when Slater joins in. Joyce said the biggest quality he’d noticed in part-time leadership coach Billy Slater, was his willingness and enthusiasm just to be involved. For the next 15 minutes Billy plays the role of defender, competing with each player before manning the mark to ensure they aren’t lazy with their kick inside. “Billy just joined in and worked with us on the drill, which is pretty typical,” Joyce said. “He is always so enthusiastic and just wants to help in whatever way he can.” “He has a lot of time for every player on the list.” Joyce said it one instance from early on in Billy’s time at the Saints that left the biggest impression. “I didn’t get a chance to shake his hand and introduce myself the first two times he was in,” Joyce said. “But the second time he was at the club he was addressing the group and used my name when he asked me a question. “I was pretty impressed he knew who I was; he even knew the Irishman who has only played two games.”...........

Billy Slater says working part-time at St Kilda has given him a new appreciation for AFL football. After retiring as a player from the NRL and Melbourne Storm last year, Slater caused a few surprises when he linked up with the Saints in a part-time role in the club's leadership and development programs. It's understood Slater's work has varied from working with club leaders on standards and encouraging young players to back themselves while also working on the training track with the side. Slater also helps out the Storm's outside backs and he will be involved in the television coverage of NRL games this season as well.......

I'd have Thursdays a regular fixture and some Mondays too. It'd be a great way for clubs that aren't gifted Friday night's to gain greater exposure.

Hate Thursday night games outside of long weekends. No good for clubs with lots of young families amongst season ticket holders. Perfect for clubs with mostly pensioners holding season tickets (crows)

Not what i meant.

It's in response to why the AFL appears to be taken swift action on the Ablett booing to try and stem it, whereas with the Goodes booing dragged on all season and they didn't really do anything about it. I'm not sure how they stop it but they are being more proactive this time around.

I'm asking why that is, why is each case different. Hence, the question mark. But searching for a serious response on this board can be hard to find.

My suspicions are both lots of booing have started from groups of supporters not agreeing with something the player has done, whether it's racially motivated or religiously the end result of unnecessary booing of a player is the same.

The spotlight would be mostly on the teams on FTA (hence give every team one home Friday night on FTA). The other is to get rid of Sunday twilight games that generally don’t do well for either rating or liked by many fans going to games.

Though I wouldn’t be adverse to changing the Foxtel Friday to a Monday game, so Footy Thursday night to Monday night. Again there are teams happy to have those games, that could monopolise them so we don’t have to have any (as home games).
