List Mgmt. 2019 Draft Thread

Having not paid much attention to it - Would it be worth us trying to split our pick this year? We need a heap of help in the midfield.

Assuming we end up with pick 3 or 4, do we go to say GWS and offer them that pick in a swap for their 2 firsts? Maybe their Essendon pick and Caldwell/Bonar?

The top 2 seem locked in, especially is we are any chance of getting Noah Anederson.

I haven't watched much of the championships but I liked the look of Sam Flanders yesterday.

Looks like he will become something we seriously lack - a mid who can also go forward and pose and a threat.

After playing as a damaging forward in 2018, Flanders has moved into the midfield this season and been one of the more prolific extractors. While it could be argued his greatest impact is around goals – where he seems to kick the impossible at times – he also has the nous in the midfield to find the ball at stoppages and kick long inside 50, or sweep the handball out to a running teammate. Gippsland has missed his influence and strength in attack, but he has added another dimension to a deep Power midfield. Flanders is a player who will divide draft watchers as he could be top five, or later first round depending on what you look at. He plays taller than his 182cm, and is strong overhead or at ground level. Another top-end Country prospect to watch this year.


June Ranking: #6
Last month: Moves up into number five on our rankings because of his consistency through the midfield. Stepped up to be one of the dominant Vic Country midfielders, and his hands in close are every bit as good as anyone else, and he has a match-winning ability. Needs to iron out his set shots which can be inconsistent, but in terms of his talent, it is untapped and could have a higher ceiling than most. Averaging 22.0 disposals, 4.3 marks, 6.0 tackles, 5.3 inside 50s and 0.7 goals per game.

22 disposals in the national champs is very much in the elite category & if he’s averaging 30+ at TAC level then even better. Not sure where he stands in that comp though.

From what I saw of him yesterday he looked a lot like Bun Cunnington. Strong over the footy, really good hands & a contested bull.

Love it when players move into a new role and dominate. His numbers are outstanding for a kid that only moved into the midfield this year.

Shows his versatility, but more importantly, dominance in multiple positions.

Yeah, I have watched Dusty since he started and he's an offensive weapon but tackling and chasing aren't his favourite activities.

It's going to be a hard choice around those picks. Robertson will be top 6 I reckon, Young should be between 3 and 10, Ash, Flanders, Kemp, Byrnes, Gould, Williams, Stephens etc all around the mark for picks in that range and a few more like Serong could be.

Ryan Byrnes is an interesting one, Knightmare reckons he plays like Jack Steven, his knock is score board impact and versatility, both I don't care about if we get a gun mid. To me he'll be a bit like Bailey Smith, local sandy boy with toe but a bit one dimensional.

Surprisingly, still not a lot of the guys doing phantoms and rankings have Robertson anywhere near the top 6. They just don't see him as damaging enough, despite finding mountains of it in the champs.

DPS has him making it all the way to West Coasts first pick.

I reckon he's going o be a Rory Sloane at AFL level. Looks very good.

After watching most of the U18 champs I am still in the Brodie Kemp camp. I just think he has enormous potential for improvement (more than his piers) and is the type of midfielder/player we could build a premiership midfield around.

Quality taller midfielders are unbeatable in todays game and he has all the tools speed, skills, marking and goal kicking ala Bontempelli, Cripps, Mundy & Fyfe.

I like Byrnes a lot some knocks on him having seen him at sandy is that he can be a little outside and his size lacks for a midfielder too. I still really like him and think he become a gun midfielder but we could easily get him in the second round.

Bont would've gone the way of Siposs, White and White at St Kilda. Stuck in the 2's at Sandy, then quietly delisted.

No that's chicken s**t drafting. Take your pick and make it into a gun. Mids are much easier to pick good ones because they are more on show.
 
Knightmare reckons Jackson will go at around pick 40?????
Shifter Sheehan reckons top 5. That's some discrepancy.

I'd take him with a high second round pick, looks like prototype modern ruckman.
