The whole thing has been from day one.

Perhaps now more people will snap out of their TV fear induced mental comas.

The BLM protests should have been enough of a wakeup call, but if not, this latest farce might be what does the trick.

Wake up and smell the coffee, people. We are being lied to. Again.
if this is true, credit where it's due.
A global conspiracy of this level deserves its time in the sun.

Being a pissweak leader is easy. Being strong is hard.

If he can't stop a dangerous protest then what right does he have to tell people to stay in their homes?

He's failed miserably in his duty to protect Victorians.
Not intervening to stop something that was going to happen anyway meant it became a low risk protest instead of a dangerous protest. I was totally against the protest happening but it was the best outcome.

On the protest - while i agree with it's sentiment but disagree with their timing and disregard for common well being - it takes a suspension of the constitution to make it illegal
if it's not illegal, then the government can't prevent.

His hands were tied. it's a slippery slope when the government can ban things that aren't against the law for what they thing is the greater good.

And he hasn't told people to stay in their homes. He's asked them to. You are only required to stay in quarantine if you've been tested/are positive for COVID.
Doesn't a national emergency give governments more power?

Riddle me this: If a far right group wanted to protest against immigration this weekend, do you think Dan would find it within his capabilities to put the stoppers on it?

He sold out Victorian health for a handful of Green votes.

Isn't this completely against all the health advice and restrictions so far? I'm not hugging the lady in front of me at the post office line, I'm not coughing, I'm not sneezing and you guessed it, I'm not directly transferring bodily fluids either... but we still line up 1.5m apart and stay facing in the same direction in order to minimise the risk and take sufficient precautions.

AFL (and NRL mind you) clearly are operating under different guidelines to most of general society, I guess the alternative is that you'd prefer no games to be going on if you're being consistent?

Why do regular people have to quarantine for two weeks when they return from overseas / interstate?

Why can't they just take a few tests like the Bombers players to show they are free from the virus?

Are we being lied to about muh incubation period?

Maybe if the regular people were under video surveillance at work and tested multiple times each week they too could quarantine at home.

They definitely apply different rules to anyone else

AFL players certainly operate under different rules, I don't have anyone video'ing me when I go to work after all.

This is the problem applying the ‘close contact’ definition to AFL players, the general public do not tackle and have that much physical contact with each other while sitting down for a 15 minute coffee or having a chat somewhere. AFL players don’t need 15 minutes to spread Covid when you’re literally tackling a player and there’s saliva on their hands/the ball. Those circumstances are unique to footy, this is going to most likely lead to Carlton getting an infected player and an insane scandal to follow.

Geee wizz.
Interesting call. 1 person isolated?

There's video of him blowing his nose out on the field, then bumping, handballing etc. This '15minute' rule is really odd. If someone has Corona Virus and sneezes on someone but only spent 1minute with them does that mean they dont need to quarantine?

It's all a bit non sensical/illogical I think. But I guess they've followed the guidelines so I'm just happy everything moves on.

I'd be super nervous to be Carlton players right now though.

If there's no new cases within Essendon based off this incident it'll be based off pure luck and not because they "analyzed the training tape"
Under the definitions that would be considered close contact. The 15 min thing is for a more regulation face to face setting.

Does anyone know if the dhhs definition of close contact is consistent accross all states?

The decision to only quarantine 1 player blows my brain. What sort of message does this send to the community.

Living in a country that has nailed covid it staggers me what countries around the world are doing wrong.

The criticism of the WA govt over recent weeks for taking a hard line also staggers me. Look at what the outcome of a hard line is, they are now back in business.

So Stewart tests negative but has to quarantine for 2 weeks but anyone else - ThEy ArE fInE

they wonder why people ignore the advice from governments re: quarantine etc.
Stewart is Conor’s wrestling partner at the club and footage showed him having the most contact with him at training

You can't stop 30k showing up unless you have 10k police using force.

You also need to consider the timing of the blm protest, it was right when the US protests got out of control with fires, looting etc. I believe that was the main reason they let it proceed without police intervention, it wasn't the virus thing. I'm no big fan of Dan but I believe he did the right thing on that one. Anyway wrong thread for this.

He could've stopped it if he had the will. And now we're all paying the price for the indulgence of the few.

Yeah yeah sure Ted.

As I said before, if you want to look at McKenna’s single tackle on Saad then you will need to look back on all weekend matches if a player tests positive on a Tuesday and quarantine every player that tackled or was tackled by positive player.

So the protest in Melbourne caused a spike in cases in Victoria but the protests in other capital cities didn't cause a spike in their states cases.

Strange. Almost like the spike in Victoria was caused by something else.
