He is better as a midfielder. JOnes and McHenry dont know how to find the ball. Its not something you can teach. I should know I was one of them as a kid. I had all the skills in the world at training but did not know how to get a kick come game day..

Didn't Jones rack up disposals at U18 level? Think he had almost 30 against Vic Country in the championships. Confidence can drop but you don't forget how to play.

He was way better than alright. Probably the best game by a Crows defender this year. But I’d be happy to let him go.
Yep.. was the best game I’ve ever seen harto play.. he was even hitting targets with his field kicking.. it was remarkable.

But its one unreal game in amongst a huge pile of shit one’s..

Gonna be interesting to see what happens next tuesday night..

What do we think about targeting Brenan Cox? Starting to shine at Freo. Kornes quoted today saying we should have a ‘sniff’. Feels like we should have gone hard at Bailey Williams, but Cox could be a good fall back?

Bailey Williams is a far different player to Brennan Cox so I'm not sure what your suggesting?

That's actually incorrect.

Contracted players (to the best of my research).

ADEL 31
BRIS 36
CARL 24
COLL 29
ESS 27
FREM 31
GC 34
GEEL 24
GWS 25
HAW 21
MELB 21
NTH 21
PORT 26
RICH 30
STK 24
SYD 27
WB 25
WC 32
I've seen stated that GCS have 41?

Sorry remind me, is Atkins OOC this year or next?

If it's this year he HAS to be shopped. He's a defensive liability yes, but a great weapon for a team that has strong team defence and structures.

I could see someone paying him 450-550k to get him across, question is, would that land us Band 3 Compo? I realise that question is hard to answer, but the club would have some idea and if he does get B3, then we are laughing because that equates to pick 20. If that's the case, I'd be sending 19/20 (or 20/21 however you want to look at it) straight to GWS for Hately.

Just prepare yourself for the absolute uproar when the rest of the competition sees us getting potentially pick 2 and 20 in compo picks, it's going to be WW3 on the ol' tweeter feeds.

Worst case scenario I feel is we get 19 for Brad andend of 2nd(39 for Atkins, which if is the case,I'd be looking to force a trade).

$450k to $550k would give us band 2 compo.

He's a free agent this off season.

Band 4 and Band 5 would be virtually the same pick (end of second round and after our 3rd round pick, which will be right at the start of the 3rd round).

He was better than them at their age as well. Hes only turned 22
What?

Poholke was a solid, mediocre mid his draft year. McHenry and Jones were vastly better.

He's been in the system for four years, and has shown that he was drafted about where should have been - late.

Good character, but Jones and McHenry clearly have more talent. They're just both still tiny and need at least one more off season.

Yeah, well we considered him good enough to give him a list spot and given the circumstances I think it would be an absolute sh*t act to piss him off without giving him a chance. Players his size with speed (sub 3-00 sec), agility and leap are quite hard to find and obviously Steve McCrystal who'd been tracking him closely saw a mountain of upside to come. Plenty of players on our list that have zero upside need to go before a promising kid gets the chop.

We gave him the ABSOLUTE last rookie spot.

He was undrafted, and we picked him up so late he's not even in some of the 2020 AFL players guides.

If lists go to 40 (inc rookies) and we want seven draft picks (our four early picks and the NGAs) and maybe three traded players then we need to cut 14 players, or a third of our list. Seems like the undrafted late rookie listed player, who hasn't played and has a season-ending injury would be one of the 14.

Have we said we intend to take 7 draftees anywhere?

He performed better in the sanfl than either of them did last year. Same goes with him and Gallucci who were from the same draft.
So he bloody should Jones and McHenry were 1st year players And McHenry was pretty bloody good when he finally got out there I might add.

Jones and McHenry were 1st round picks, Poholke a 3rd round pick...

As Mutineer said, different players but I wouldn’t be opposed to kicking the tyres, he’s likely behind a fit Pearce and Hamling and Luke Ryan as well. I guess it depends where we see McAsey playing in the next couple of years, would mean we could jettison Hartigan which would be a bonus.

Or maybe some dopey club has offered Atkins a $500k a year contract which gets end of 1st round compo... surely not??.. right?... but you never know. He is good in a decent side.

theres no way the AFL give us a PP this year.. but they might be a bit more generous with any FA compo picks they give us.. especially if we go winless.

we are a basket case at the moment and that would terrify the AFL given that we have been a very nice fat little cash cow for them over the years and one who’s supporters have never had to endure a huge “bottoming out” phase..

they simply dont know how the crows supporters are going to react to a prolonged period of poor performances.. will they turn off, stop subscribing to Kayo, stop buying merch, cancel their memberships and not bother going to games?... who knows?

the AFL are now in a spot of financial bother due to Covid-19.. they need all their cash cows to continue being fat and healthy to help get them through the next few years.. they are carrying enough financially unviable teams as it is.

the crows being in the doldrums for too long might see them lose a heap of the supporter base and thus threaten the health of said cash cow..

the boffins in the AFL marketing and financial departments would be crunching the numbers and coming up with strategies to ensure crows fans dont turn their backs.. it is a business after all. Lose customers and you lose money.
I agree that we won't/shouldn't get a priority pick this year. The best we can hope for is the pick 2 if Brad leaves. If we have another season next year like this one, then we will have a good chance of a priority pick.

I mean his first year was better than theirs. Gallucci from the same draft has never played a game in the Sanfl as good as Poholke has

didn't El Chapo say we'll have 5 top 30 picks?
Please don't refer to Chapman as El Chapo.

El Chapo was the leader of a successful drug business, secured plenty of riches and been punished.

Chapman is the leader of an unsuccessful football business, which hasn't secured any riches and been punished.

There might be six that go before him, maybe. Which would be good if we weren't looking to cut 10+.

He's out of contract, about to be dropped and has demonstrated that he just can't handle the lift in game intensity. His decision making is too slow.
About to be dropped you reckon ?? I'd be disappointed if he was.

And El Chapo has mad escaping skills and Chapman seems incapable of leaving voluntarily.

So - you think the NGAs are no chance?

You think the absolute dead last draftee last year, who hasn't got on the park, is a better chance than Borlase?

I think 7 picks is minimum. That assumes only 4 before 20.

This could be completely blind faith, But I don't think were as far off as what everyone thinks

Like I'd say this team on paper is pretty strong after a big preseason

FB: Brown, Talia, Doedee

HB: Hamil, McPherson, Milera

C: Smith, Matt Crouch, Sloane

HF: Jones, Himmelburg, McAdam
FF: Stengle, Fogarty, Lynch

FOL: O’Brien, Keays, Laird
IC: Scholl, Brad Crouch (If he stays), Butts, Murphy

This doesn't even include the 4-5 picks we have in the top 30 of this year's draft.

Chapman has secured plenty of riches for the club. He's helped us be very financially successful.
