Kelly is impressive.

Once we see the St Kilda contract, we will talk with the AFL and get an idea of the compo. Have 3 days to match and force a trade if need be.

Yeah, an idea! AFL will say we're on the border of Band1 but they can't commit anything until the herbs and spices committee meets after the 3-day deadline! Then, welcome to pick 20 and reneging on taking two spuds from the Saints, who will be very pleased. ;)

We shouldn’t be talking pick 2 - we should only be talking band 1.

Does his contract trigger band 1?

If yes, the pick number isn’t relevant.
Exactly, was Buddy worth pick 19?

No, his contract triggered band 1 compensation.

No different to Brouch

This notion of "the Crows are totally in the dark, they don't know what the AFL will do, no one knows, it's so random!" is pretty ridiculous.

The Crows see the contract, and also speak to the AFL. They also know the lay of the land and know % of salaries etc.

Not ridiculous at all. Even the AFL won't know what the herbs and spices committee will do.

I guess the key point here is the AFL only tells us the compo after the Saints submit their offer, beyond the point they can modify it.

So we will have the choice between match/trade and accepting the compo. But it doesn't sound like it will be possible to then go back and ask the Saints to increase their offer if it wasn't enough for band 1

Hopefully some certain Vic journos listen to that interview, cleared up a lot of the speculation and basically until the offer is lodged this Friday, nobody knows the exact deal outside of Crouch, the Saints and his manger. It doesn’t sound like the Crows know exactly what the deal is yet either.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 they wont listen doesnt fit their agenda

Or crapmedias agenda

But the only absolute reason that we wouldn't match would be because we have pick 2 in our pocket ... right?

Or could it be pick 12 which is better than the Saints have on offer?

No to question 1. The feeling I've got is that we won't be matching 5 years by a high $600k region contract. I think the band 1 or match certainty has gone out the window if it's high band 2 by 5 years.

Hard working and being a good teammate and friend is not mutually exclusive to enjoying some cocaine in the off season. It's not out of character as it's clearly something Brad does from time to time. Talia is just spinning from the club's hymn book. Nobody in the AFL gives a sh*t as long as you don't get caught. Talia would know numerous players on our list partake in a bit of nose candy from time to time. As long as it doesn't impact their footy, who cares.
Bullshit...you don't know that, just more of your anti anti everything.

You won't get a much worse take on the Crouch situation than this from Jay Clark...

CROUCH DEAL

At this stage St Kilda is not prepared to pay Brad Crouch more than $7000,000 to trigger the No. 2 pick the Crows desperately want.

The midfielder was caught by police with an illicit substance at season’s end and demand for his services dropped-off at Geelong, Richmond and Port Adelaide.

An end-of-first round compensation pick would slot in for the Crows about No. 20. It seems about right for a player who finished outside the top-10 of the best and fairest from 12 games this season.

But this transaction might not stop there.

The Saints have pick No. 15 and want to keep it, but could be willing to off-load South Australian onballer Luke Dunstan, and contracted pair Jimmy Webster and Dylan Roberton to help clear some salary cap room and satisfy Adelaide.

It means the Crows could get pick No. 20 as free agency compensation, then separately, secure Dunstan or one of the other two from the Saints on the cheap for a later pick as an added bonus.

St Kilda is open-minded about trading some of its players. Dunstan, who was injured, played only one game this year, while Roberton only managed one and Webster racked up eight.

The Crows have four picks inside the top-25 of this year’s draft including the No. 1 selection.

If they wanted to play hard ball with the Saints, Adelaide could threaten to trade Crouch for Orazio Fantasia, but that seems highly unlikely.

Salary cap room will be important for the Saints as they plan to have another crack at Gold Coast’s Ben King next year.

* me.

Without explicitly saying it, it seemed clear from Kelly that if we aren’t getting pick 2 we are prepared to match and either keep him or force a trade. He also said that you don’t just let quality players leave without getting adequate compo.
If he means this, then we won't be accepting band 2 compensation. It'll either be band 1, a decent trade, or we keep him.

I hope Matt Rendell is right. Says Crouch offer is about 4 mil over 5 years, getting us band 1.

The key is we need them to tell the saints, or for the saints to ask.
