I think from his responses, Lonie and Hind are the two who are most likely to move.

Webster and Dunstan seem likely to stay but he was strongest on Ross not going anywhere.
But Brian said Ross wants to leave Glorious One

Next point - he said again Treloar is unlikely. My question for him and lethlean who yesterday said the same thing and ended with - we are interested observers.

What’s unlikely? Be categoric and say no we are not interested.

He literally gave away **** all. He also said to clarify - we would have to make it work if Caldwell nominated us as the cap would be tight. But pretty much you could for good players.

So in essence, we could make a deal in our favour work for Treloar.

So we're stuck with Dunstan, Ross, Webster and Roberton. Sounds like no one wants them lol.

Great depth.

Nobody wanted Lonie last year, seems wanted this year.

Webster and Dunstan play some games and have a good year they may get a gig somewhere else next year.

thank God we still have DMAC on the books.

holy hell Sandy will look good next season.

Yes McKernan not good enough to play No1 ruck well.

So if Marshall or Ryder are out the one remaining will need to play the No1 ruck role with McKernan mainly playing forward and resting ruck. McKernan is quite capable in this role, but clearly a step down (but way better than Abbott).

McKernan on out list means that we can choose games to rest Marshall or Ryder in. Particularly Ryder.

If Marshall or Ryder are both out, then we are in trouble.
We all have to realize there are very few ruckmen around , at least we have 2 good rucks - you only have to look at Swans getting Hickey back into there squad to see teams are scrapping the barrel to find a player who can ruck.
We are lucky we have Carlisle in the backline who is 2m and King in the forward line who is 2m so even if we have only one ruckman available we are in good shape.

Don’t think he said no interest in Webster or Dunstan he said they are good AFL players and you can understand why people ask the question when they don’t get games.

Sandi will basically be our AFL team of 2 years ago at this rate.

Yes if they are not traded fine , we have good depth and if Dunstan and Lonie are traded we will have salary cap to bring in another good player if one becomes available.

So this could be it???? Unless there’s another surprise coming I don’t think we’ll do any more trades.
I'd be ok with that. After last year's pick ups in I'm happy to take a first rounder to the draft this year.
With the free agents that might be available next year let's just free up some cap space and have a crack at one of them to help launch our three peat.

I found Gag's response about fitting Caldwell into the cap interesting, unless he's bullshitting it sounds like our cap is way tighter than a lot think.

Pretty definitive that we won't be doing any chasing.

That doesn't mean we wouldn't be up to our eyeballs in him if collingwood come to us with an offer to eat a lot more of his contract that a tiny couple of hundred k out of 4.5mill.

The ball is in collingwoods court- and I don't think their cap is in such bad shape that they simply MUST move treloar on (if it were they wouldn't be re-signing miochek and degoey).

This is just our guys, once again (like with freo and the crows) not getting pulled into any gamesmanship.

If the pies are serious about moving him on- they have our number and know we are interested.
We don't need to do engage with them any further until their asking price comes anywhere near our acceptable ballpark.

There is simply nothing to be gained in 'negotiating' or talking with collingwood or treloar when the asking price is way out of our acceptable ballpark.

The complete opposite approach that dodoro has taken with dunkley and caldwell- getting player hopes up and getting contract details negotiated- without caring that the parties are light years away from eachother on asking price.

Gags is probably just giving doofus Dodoro a clip talking about 'not getting expectations up' etc.

I have more faith they know who is best to recruit than the critics. Re: McKernan
Certainly better than the other option 😉

Gags was pretty much a closed book on the interview he had with trade radio last week. So no surprises here.

Lethlean had already suggested we had an interest in Higgins and we had spoke to his management, so he could hardly flat out deny.

In regards to Treloar. Lethlean was obviously easier to read between the lines. But regardless of Gags responses, there is absolutely no chance we have no interest in a player of Treloars quality. I’d suggest we certainly would meet with him. Think we’re playing it brilliantly, giving a desperate Collingwood absolutely no room to negotiate or any leverage at all.

As back-up is probably better to have a an ok ruck/forward in McKernan on our list than another ok ruckman on our list. ie Say Giles.

The other advantage of McKernan is that he is not just backing up Ryder and Marshall, but also is backup for King.

So if King is out injured, or is being rested, we could go with McKernan as FF or CHF.

If richmond can bring in tom lynch on a mill a year AFTER winning a flag- anything is possible for a club that manages its cap well.

We will not have any issues bringing guys in that we want because of cap.

Now the interesting question.. if we've jumped to conclusions that Seb Ross was the midfielder "upset" with our trade activity - who else could it be?
Perhaps Dunstan or a depth player but geez it couldn't be one of the big dogs right?

Of course he’s not going to come out spruiking how large our war chest is!

Remember this time last year how geelong made us pay half of jack stevens wage because the cats said their cap was bursting?

And now suddenly they have found a million a year from behind the couch to pay jeremy cameron?!

We are in the middle of doing the exact same thing to collingwood for treloar right now.

It would be insane for gags to say anything other than 'yeah nah- got no money... can i bum a ciggie?'

Completely agree.

Which is why when I said we have an interest in Treloar - however there will be a lot that needs to play out.

We have pretty much positioned ourselves as - we rate him, we would be keen. But we don’t have the salary cap or assets to do the deal Collingwood would be asking.

But if there cap is royally screwed and the pies come to us 24-48 hours out. I’m sure we could work something.

Same applies to Dunstan Webster Lonie. I have no doubt we would move them on — as long as our expectations are met. But in the media, we are calling them “good AFL level players”

“Lonie plays every week he is fit”
“Dunstan got a brownlow vote in his last game!”
“Webster was next man in our 22 and probably had been told he was playing 2-3 times throughout the year before a niggle occurred”
