This thread moves so quickly if I walk away for a couple of hours I have to scroll through many pages to catch up. Slow down boys and girls, trade period hasn't started yet.🤪

A large portion of the last 6-7 pages was a result of a lost injector from out Essendon way, so you didn't miss much! :D

Yep I reckon we can do it without the Dunks trade but 5 years is scary as is the $500k

If I was certain it wasn’t going to upset the equilibrium with our other players it might be worth the risk

We are not getting Treloar at 500k a year, Collingwood are not paying 400k of his contract, that defeats the purpose of offloading his contract. To put in perspective we paid 500k to sit Trengove in reserves all year this year, take him and Dunkley off books more than pays the 700k we would need for Treloar.

We don't want to debate with a junkie - now fart off.

Given the board you're on, to be fair, you need to take your head and shove it up your own a-hole.

No offence, but go **** yourself - troglodyte.
You got a reasonable conversation from this end - just in case you missed all the posts telling you to **** off, champ.

classy response gents

can we get back to the topic we should be discussing

Thanks for that. I was beginning to wonder whether I had stumbled on to the Essendon forum (a fate worse than death) because I see the words: "Essendon or Bombers" in nearly every post. But then I'm quickly reassured I am in the right place when I see lots of words like: "Bummers or Druggies".

No I get that

It’s just that like every good coach they are not perfect and sometimes your strengths can be your flaws. He obviously values loyalty and trust almost to a fault.

One thing I am certain is that 2016 was a monumental effort and it was no fluke.

I absolutely agree with you.

To clarify, I do like Beveridge and think he’s a good coach.

I in fact should really withdraw making sarcastic comments like the one I did about Gowers.

But I find some of the things he’s been doing in the last few years extremely questionable.

I can’t stand our ruck strategy on two fronts:

1. English is clearly overworked and has been for a while, yet Beveridge and the MC refuse to play a second ruckman

2. playing midfielders like Dunkley and Macrae in the ruck is simply ridiculous. I wouldn’t mind our strategy in the ruck I’d say, English was off the ground, we play say Naughton, Bruce (who has been used well in the ruck), or even Cordy - players with actual height, as the spare or second ruck. Not pint sized midfielders like Macrae or Dunkley who are easily swatted aside by opponents larger and stronger than them.

I also can’t stand how Bevo has played favourites with the likes of Gowers, Gardner, Hayes after they’ve played stinkers (often several in a row) when better players like West, Young, even premiership player McLean gets dropped for the slightest drop in form and then either have to wait or don’t get a look in for weeks.

The situation with Dunkley - and I could be wrong - seems to me to have been a problem Bevo has contributed to.

There’s lots of conjecture out there and I don’t profess to knowing the full story about why he wants out, but he has been used ridiculously as a ruckman and not played as many minutes in the midfield and if he’s not happy about that, doesn’t take a genius to figure out who are the ones playing/not playing him in those roles.

Huge year next year for Bevo. No Covid, no hubs, no excuses imo.
Justin Longmuir said he expected hubs of some form to reappear next year. No guarantee, but don't be surprised if we are still not back to regularity

I loved the 2016 flag as much as the next arseh*le - but please look up the definition of a fluke.

“A surprising piece of luck.”

Given results before and after i’m not sure how you can say you’re certain it wasn’t a fluke.

Doesn’t mean we didn’t win the flag though. :)

After early signs we were about to get Martin as an UFA it seems to have stalled. Hopefully it's only a matter of due process and we'll still get him as a DFA, or for pick 199.

However I was wondering whether he has been looking at what happens under Bevo's coaching to our rucks other than English (Trengove, Sweet, even going back to Roughead, Campbell and Minson). It's certainly unconventional - not ruck-friendly - and might be enough for him to be thinking twice about coming over.

I hope in courting Martin we have got Bevo to explain to him how he plans to use him in the senior side.

Think they can talk but no official trades

Given the AFL’s deep desire to dominate the press during the off-season it’s surprising that they don’t

Even more surprising given that in normal times they play all weekend (if not all week), but in trade week(s) weekends are seemingly sacrosanct and players can’t be contacted while on holiday because their phones suddenly lose connection to the world despite remaining glued to social media - it’s such bullshit to turn 2 days of activity into 10
