Scott Morrison - How Long? Part 3

It shifts the narrative a bit.

If there were three seperate offenders then it is damning on the culture of government/parliament.

The first victim was a volunteer and not likely to have been influenced by the culture of silence in terms of reporting. The third victim was no longer working for the Government.

The accused now looks like a psychopath serial rapist. Not a young impressionable staffer who developed his attitude towards women through exposure to the poor behaviour of others within the party.

Additional context - 4corners last year, and more specifically how LNP reacted to it so aggressively.

There are 2 men so far, 1 that has sexually assaulted 3 women (s far) and another woman has come forward re another LNP person. Sounds and looks like a culture problem to me

BUT, do voters share your opinion .... more like the Dan argument, the faithful cheer squad cheering, the other side booing. Then there is ScoMo, also with cheering & booing.

Great to see you staying across the issues.

Which highlights the complete breakdown of the two party system.

Scott Morrison's job is currently not to perform good government. He does not even try to do that.

Morrison's job has been reduced to convincing enough people to keep his side in power and anything goes to achieve this including covering up a rape in a ministers office.

And Morrison will defend that they did everything they could and put on his best empathy face, and the opposition will attack as best they can, and either enough people will move from one side to the other to cause a problem.

But at no time will there be meaningful change. They will continue to regulate themselves. They will continue to investigate themselves. And they will continue to clear themselves.

THE NEXT ELECTION MUST BE A REFERENDUM ON AN ICAC - AND A PROPER ICAC.

Australian democracy is moving further and further away from good democracy and might be moving away from being a democracy at all.

Sometimes I think calling things like this a cultural problem makes it sound like a systemic problem rather than individual cases of rape and cover-up. ALl of which are heinous.

Calling it cultural lets Morrison and his PR team come up wit ways of fixing the "culture" without actually doing anything about the individual cases of rape and cover-up.

Reynolds' office covered up a rape, discouraging the victim from pressing charges and moving on the rapist to another LNP-friendly gig. (sounds a bit like another conservative organisation). They should be punished specifically for this.

I suppose it would be hypocrisy for the LNP to be writing references for George Pell, but punishing people for covering up a rape and shuffling people away. But when has hypocrisy ever stopped them?

then she may be pandering, which is worse
I respect you as a poster, but this is a silly thing to say. If she was pandering she would have called the safety of the vaccine into question, either overtly or by dogwhistling over its effectiveness. She very clearly said she wants frontline workers to have it, so I'm certain the anti-vax loons won't have a better impression of Ardern after this.

this just gives ammo to them

"why is she saying we have to take it and she's refusing?!?!?!?" thats the message that will get pushed from this

there is a reason every world leader from Putin to Biden to Johnson to ScoMo is getting it on camera and early

Why does it matter if a rape victim has had sex before or not? Is the trauma somehow less if they have?

Dunno, but if that was her first/only experience of sex, then I could see how it may do more damage psychologically.

So why did the Guardian Not report on the issue then if they knew names?

BTW, agree there is a major problem that needs reforms and heads to roll.

playing devlls advo, there is a difference between knowing and being able to prove

I know in the Kennett Govt everyone "knew" one of his senior ministers was blind drunk in the offices pretty much every night. Apparently was an effective functional alcoholic. It was never reported however, because he always was behind closed doors and never was dumb enough to drive.

But she isn't refusing. And delusional morons will interpret anything at all in a manner that supports their delusion. If a leader gets the vaccine, I'm sure the morons will think they had one without the microchip in it, but all the plebs will get ones with microchips.

Perhaps, I don't know anywhere near enough about psychology or trauma to say. But I'm deeply suspicious that people are mentioning this because it plays into the sexist trope that chaste virgin women are more valuable and more deserving of sympathy when violated.

It is imperative that the Coalition do not get to set up their proposed ICAC.

Their proposed ICAC is far, far worse than no ICAC at all, and a true measure of the utter contempt which they have for probity, transparency, trust and accountability.

I agree - this government is completely incapable of doing the right thing.

If they introduced a proper ICAC with full and proper powers and the ability to act retrospectively half of them would end up in prison.

The “press gallery” see themselves as part and parcel of the same inner circle. It’s a huge problem and it’s why the govt have the media so tightly in their grasp.
