Game Day Carlton v St Kilda Practice Match Gameday Discussion

We need a Brisbane style run on the injury front. 2-3 years with little to no significant ones and a chance to cement a top 16-18 players, with 6-8 fringe ones rotating in and out and just a chance for them to gel.

Absolutely this x 1000, continuity is so underrated for the team cohesion but especially for individuals trying to cement a spot providing confidence within their ability and most importantly their bodies

Controversial opinion but I think he's (Kennedy) a better marking forward option than a resting cripps inside 50
What do you do with him the other 80% of the game. He is a beautiful kick as well but he either takes McGovern's or JSOS role or a mids role.

Not good enough for either, hence a rookie list slot.

Didn't see the game and having a quick scan omw home from pub trivia. Plenty saying the negatives include injury but no one saying who was injured, who has been smited (smote?) by the injury gods now?
Harry rolled ankle early and took no further part.
Newnes not sure what happened there.
Weitering looked bad at first, knee area was up and about but played no further part.
Plowman ankle had it re strapped and played on.
Not sure if anyone else at the game noticed Zac Williams rubbing the back of his leg, high hamstring area? In the last quarter? He was jogging around after that last attempt to kick a goal in the last quarter. Hopefully its just a twinge.

Tackles inside 50 - 15 to 5 our way. Huge positive.

McDonald has to get our last list spot based on this game.

Zac Williams is a gun and Adam Saad just changes the way we play.

Fisher is at his absolute best.

JSOS must play every week.

Walsh is a gun.

Murph's new role suits our game nicely.

Setters is awesome.

Jack Martin needs to do more.

Lochie O'Brien really good in the time he played. I think the MC sees him outside the 22 but he should be competing with Cunners and Martin for a bench spot.

Gibbons didn't get on the ground again. Reckon he is seen as a walk up start by the coach. Competing with Fogarty for a small mid spot and I thought Fog came into the game but Gibbons offers more at this stage.

Dow looking good again. Has earned himself a round 1 start.
Spot ******* on !

As a Carlton digital member who is still waiting for the AFL to tell the club how or if they can transition people from the AFL Live pass to Kayo, I’m just wondering whether St Kilda took their foot off the gas in the second half?

Thanks to Gillon, who made watching the game tonight impossible for a paid up member. Keep looking after the fans Gil.

I understand what you're saying, but I say it every year. Ed get's better the longer the season goes, always takes him 4 - 5 games into the season before you see him shine. I think that could come earlier because as we saw tonight, players are going to gas faster.
Quick legs can't replace strong legs. First 2 or 3 weeks the games are as quick as ever, then they slow down and the slower players begin to excel.

JSOS still has more ticker than the sum of his team mates. Luck we are fitter, as it must be tiring chasing our own tails from poor disposal. The guarding space/witches hat gamestyle and kicking long to the hotspot even without a key forward is still very concerning.

Brad Hill is a freak.

Walsh is a freak.

Some ok signs. Will need massive improvement to even make top 10.

Full squad and playing at the G not the shithole that marvel is we’re top 8 all day.

If everything else clicks for us, he'll be a cult figure in the league
You put him in Saints team tonight he has the ability too not only kick a handful of goals himself but the goal assists opportunities he creates for others, if we can start producing a style like them tonight then he will become not only a dangerous forward, he should be rotated midfield where he can unleash his seriously untapped talent...

PaddyDow not a heap of touches tonight but high numbers of classy possessions, hands and poise were top shelf tonight also his kicking and decision making was really impressive...
music to my (admittedly too much hair sprouting inappropriately from) ears..........

I’m just wondering if we played with a full squad at the G if Saints would even come close.

Marvel specialists.

I thought LOB looked good in limited time. May give Newnes a run for that wing spot.

Fisher is a weapon.
I'd take LOB over Newnes. Newnes was in my bad books from his first couple of games for us (including preseason), but he eventually worked his way through it and managed to earn some points back. The only thing I think he has over LOB now is that he's battle hardened, but LOB can't get that if he's not playing.

Weitering looked nasty. Was certain it was a knee, but the club are saying corked hip. Wasn’t on crutches or in a brace after the game so likely not a knee which is a HUGE relief.
Newnes had a Saints player land on his foot and he badly sprained his ankle. Might struggle to get up for R1.
H had 2 separate tweaks of his ankle, likely made worse by the niggle going in. Came off at QT and didn’t come back.

I was convinced Weiters had done a knee, I thought he went down even before the pack came through so if it’s a corked hip then that is an absolute relief but have no idea how that happened unless he just slipped and the pack just crashed down on him

Harry looked absolutely fine after the game, he should be ready for round 1

Newnes could be just a sprained ankle or as sinister as syndesmosis, lucky not to have a broken ankle

maybe if you actually watch then you'll see how bad they are dont get me wrong there serviceable but if blokes like them are finishing high in your b&f you aint are premiership threat
Geez and here I was presuming the top 5 in last years b&f would be the same when we win the flag......silly me.

Not being too 5 in your b&f when we win a flag doesn't mean you won't be a premiership player either.

This was a reality check. Thinking that injecting McGovern, Betts and any other half fit person will not change that fact.

The stoppages were atrocious. Pitto hit more times than not to the advantage of the Saints. Does he actually have ruckman smarts? Really unsure, it will probably be mortared over by his goals in the first half however, his ruck craft needs attention stat OR the midfield must compensate. THIS IS A COACHING THING!

Midfielders were ... lost, disjointed, there were solid passages of play from the saints (on KAYO) where not a blue was in sight when they were moving it. This is how we get scored against heavily. The run ons .....

Team was a little rusty, but geez, next game is for 4 points against the reigning premier. We need to pull a rabbit out of the hat. And quickly.

14 possessions to Fogarty, got stitched up by the abandonment of the holding the ball rule tonight. Should have got a free 15m out near the end of the 3rd Q
I honestly fear the umpires in a close battle I know it’s sounds lame but there are no CFC loving umps at the mo .... those 50/50 calls always seem to go against us

A bit harsh to list stats when Gibbons didn’t get a chance.

Don’t think Fogarty adds much, would
Prefer Gib
