I actually rate him highly Dezario but I also think a few sides will be better prepared for him this year.

Agree still a very good player just have to see if he can dominate against the top sides this year rather than kicking bags against the lower ranked teams

He is like most big forwards, kick bags against opponents that are 2 inches smaller but struggle against their right match up hence why playing QAFL not AFL

Fair to say that the league will be weaker this year because of the VFL comp, so naturally the defenders will be weaker, so I would expect he will kick more this year.

I think he will land around 70-80 at a minimum.

You mean the Southport cats fell over the last hurdle and I never said 50 goals was bad, yeah any side would take a 50 goal a Year player.

Any news out of Redland v Grange match?

A good final pre-season hit out for both teams, Grange much better this week than they were against Mayne so it’s lucky for them that neither trial game was washed-out.

Both Grange and Redland were without at least a few first choice players.

I’m not too familiar with Redland’s list this year but pretty sure that Mitch Stallard and Darcy Marsh didn’t play. One of their guys looked like Aaron Christensen but as Redland didn’t list jumper numbers I can’t say whether it was him or not. No idea otherwise about who might come back in.

Corey Lyons was a late inclusion for Grange and made a big difference to a midfield with 2-3 starters missing.

Grange definitely looked a lot fitter than Redland, and much younger (and smaller) with 13 players aged between 16-19 on the day, so they know that they can run games out.

The Grange coaching team were really happy with the effort and resilience, and winning was a good confidence booster, but certainly not getting carried away.

I’d still have Redland finishing top 3 this year at this early stage, but they’re certainly not a patch on the 2020 versions of Broadbeach or Morningside on what I saw yesterday.

Sherwood v Roos game was a good one. Sherwood won by a kick. Roos had about 6 more scoring shots. Think both sides will be thereabouts.

Totally agree Dezario, l think its going to be a really even competition.

Agreed, I guess my point was that any suggestion that Redland’s team this year will resemble a NEAFL level team because of guys who have stayed there to play QAFL is misplaced.

Definitely think the comp this year will be more even.

Grange investment in their juniors is impressive. A 16-19yo with good skills transfers those skills just fine. As you said, the only difference is size. The skills of the younger players is easily up to it. Being able to handle the extra stresses of the bigger contact the only difference.

Im not sure if the game is changing but even at the top level, AFL, kids are making an impact earlier than previous seasons. Perhaps thats because of rule changes, the way the game is played, less contact, or more faith being put in skillful youth? Swans are certainly benefiting from it.

That’s a credit to Beama over the last few years.

He has a really good program that focuses on skills, fitness and theory. Honestly I think it would be better then the lions academy

On the weekend they all played except PBC who were suppose to play Mt Gravatt.
Broadbeach beat Bond Uni by 20 goals
Surfers played Morningside and Labrador played Coolangatta. Not sure on those results.

Do you even know what "plethora" means?

Grange played 2 guys who will be on Aspley's senior list this year, Corey Lyons and Wasley-Black, who are both aligned to us and asked the coach on either Friday night or Saturday morning if they could get a game as Aspley weren't playing on the weekend, plus Mitch Crawley who is far more likely to be playing for Grange than Aspley most weeks (if he's listed with Aspley at all).

We also played Will McKenzie, who again is Grange-aligned but on Aspley's development list.

So, we "threw the kitchen sink" at these guys who are all Grange-aligned and were all really keen to play in circumstances where we had lost three starters from the Mayne game due to injury, have a couple of other starters not yet fit, we were not allowed to play three U19 players (Abberley, Bowes and Cashen-Harris) who are members of the Lions VFL squad and were already fielding 12 boys aged 16-19 (excluding Will M who is 19).

Yep Fan, once again you've caught Grange out, we really loaded-up on Saturday in our desperation to win a trial instead of building for round 1......

If you read what I wrote, I meant for Round 1 - players that normally wouldn't be available, likely will be available now. A couple of late alignment changes apparently happened thanks to substantial offers, whether they fit in a kitchen sink or not.
