I for one am fine with the change. I’d love to have played a young forward option, but we won comfortably and played well last week, we don’t need to change the world. Mayne is dependable and a solid contributor. Let’s not overreact.

Although I do hope he has instruction not to slow the play up all the time.

Murphy might have to start racking up 50 touches at VFL level to get a look in. Ridiculous that we're persisting with Mayne when we have 3 wingmen ahead of him, and he's been pretty shite anywhere else over the last year or two.

Add someone who racks up 1 metre gained for every touch he gets when we lose a damaging forward who can go into the middle. Yippee

We made one forced change and brought in an experienced, dependable player. Perspective.

It’s also only round 3. In round 3 of 2010, we lost to the Saints with Lockyer, Medhurst, Fraser and Obree in the side. Our youth will get their chance this year, but let’s remember they’re coming off a year of no footy for the most part.

Oh look the selectors showing zero imagination or faith go back to the old guard and bring in Mayne instead of Murphy. I’m getting the Ross Lyon and StKilda feel about us. Close but no cigar, play all the old players in a hope of hanging on and not have any faith in the younger players. I’m so over it I’d be looking for a way out if I was Murphy or some of the others not getting a game.

Bucks has already given Henry Ruscoe and T Brown a run this season (not to mention Noble Quaynor Daicos and C Brown as well as giving Sier a fresh start) so its not as if hes completely ignoring the younger players.

Picking Murphy is not picking a new player. Murphy has been on the list for over 3 years...

I said younger, not new, but Im not going to argue over semantics. He’s had his injuries and hasn’t played a real game since 2019.

Definitely a player on Buckley’s long list of young players that he can give an opportunity to if and when they show some form

Overall I tend to agree, but it’s early in the season. They did select Henry on the back of zero footy in 2020, and that “imagination” didn’t do much for the side or his confidence. Clearly we won’t agree, but I am supportive of letting them build form first given the unusual circumstances 2020 has given us.
