From the lions, Gram and Craig Bolton are obvious ones. I reckon Marty Pask was really good too. Aka was traded, but I think that one was allowable. I think if Headland had stayed, he would be a star for Brisbane now.

Thoughts about other clubs?

Firstly, with hindsight it's easy to say Gram and Bolton. But they were fringe players in a side chasing 4 straight premierships. We couldn't keep everyone on our list, despite what some ill-informed trolls on here think. Actually, hindsight wasn't really needed. Most knew they would be top players at any other club - simply people had to go to keep the best side together.

Headland was out of our hands. 2 weeks after saying he was staying at the B&F, he requested a trade.

Craig Bolton really did struggle for you guys IMO.

Stuey Maxfield. Never had a bad word to say about him after he left. Just a gun.

McAvaney R20 vs Essendon 1995: "Here's a go, Bond to Maxfield, go on Stuey, kick the goal. Straighten up and bang it home. It's a beauty!! They're in front the Tiges".

His hit on Symons in the final against the Dons a few weeks later that set up Naish was tops

Good call. That final is still my favourite game ever, although I don't remember much of it anymore, I was only about 6/7 at the time.

Feel free to borrow my tape of it any time - it's getting a bit scratchy around the third quarter now though.

The Whale leaving in the 70's was something that hurt us pretty badly too.

You reckon it'd be easy to break into that Brisbane team ?...and what about Gram ?...as a midfielder trying to get a game with Voss, Lappin, Black, Aker, Power plus more ahead of u....hardest gig for any kid to break into the seniors with a coach that cant change a winning team.

Not surprising Bolton as well as Gram went on to improve tho after that.

Our big mistake was letting Hayes slip thru our grasp...i;ve got no doubt he woulda got the captaincy off Maxfield.

We gave away Dal Santo as one of the draft pix for Hall...but who was to know ?...and i;m pretty sure Paul Roos would be getting more out of James Kelly then Geelong have been.
