What a *******.

Her coming out and saying she has mental health problems is being a role model for kids.
No she is most likely demeaning people with real mental illness problems.

and even if she is suffering mental illness being a victim is not being a role model. You don’t say someone who gets cancer or gets injured in a road accident is a role model. It’s being a victim. It’s only how they choose to respond to their situation that could make them a role model. People who show mental perseverance. this is the opposite of what pulling out of a competition is because you have started to get anxiety after a first up bad performance. The role model is the one who fights through it and overcomes their mental challenges. Who defeats the anxiety through thought process and calming themselves down so that they can keep going. Not give in to it. Giving up is the opposite of a role model.

this isn’t to say she isnt a tremendous role model for what she has achieved and against the odds that she has faced. But it wasn’t due to her actions yesterday.

Biles has been struggling all throughout the tournament. It takes incredible strength to admit that you're not at your best and that someone else might be able to do your part better.

ah yes, the old 'this other person was ok so this person is just a weak campaigner not trying hard enough' line.

hopefully you catch up with the rest of us in the 2020's sometime.
No you have completely missed the point.

either mental toughness exists or it doesn’t. If it does exist then so does mental weakness. As toughness is simply one end of the same line that weakness is on.

do you believe mental toughness can exist?

Always amazes me with the rowing how they keep it straight down the lane throughout the whole course going full pelt.

With different people and tempos involved in the one boat, you would think they would skew off one way or another.

Are you are phycologist" A physiatrist? Suffered from "real mental health issue"? A schizophrenic? Talking from real experience or just some amateur practitioner??

Plenty of great generals have said we aren't up to it today, we are going to retreat, regather and continue the battle at a later stage when we are in better shape. No real different here.

I don't give a shit about role models. Parents, teachers, coaches are the real role models because they do 1 on 1 stuff. Not this bullshit via a TV screen. Its one of the most over hyped phrase used in sport.

That's why they are elite. I've done a bit of social rowing many years ago and its bloody tough.

You'd hope they can being professional rowers and all - but would be funny if they had an eric the eel type of rower who comes in and takes out the other competitors....

Keeping the tempos the same is one of the necessary factors.

I have never rowed properly, but had a go in an eight once. Was incredibly tippy!!

imagine afl players were in the boats. they'd hit dry land before the finish line

This commentator reminds us every race how unusual it is that they row under a bridge.

After 80 times mate we've got it.
