Probably most here won't agree but I'm not a fan of the idea of putting all our trade/draft eggs into the 'Get Bing at all costs' basket.

The Saints romantic in me loves the prospect of both Kings but then the pragmatist kicks in. Dedicating two years trading and drafting to land Max's clone seems the wrong way to go to me.

We need at least another A grade mid, a decent ruck prospect and another tall defender (sorry I don't rate Clav).

If we fix those list holes we can challenge for top 4 given some breaks on the injury front. Getting Bing and not much else won't address those issues and may leave us anchored in the middle tier of teams.

Sure I'd love to get Bing but at what cost ? Do we have the collateral to do both a list fix and get Bing. I'm not so sure.

Maybe in the past I watched too many losing games despite Plugger and Loewey marking everything in sight.

Not having a go here malevu , but simply convenient for me to respond with a thought.
Why think of Bing as being expensive at 2 x FRDP?
Why not think of Bing + Ming being reasonably priced at 3 x FRDP?

His manager flagged that he was happy with his media and property roles and didn’t see Carlton as a particularly attractive position some time ago. I guess he had a chat which just confirmed that, anyway carltons loss they won’t land anyone better. Clarkson has said no so who’s in the frame scott? Might have sorted out where cerra will end up though.

I'd suggest that seals the Cerra trade to Carlton now. Was presumably talking to other clubs in case Ross ended up getting the job.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this forum isn't based on you alone and your relationship with other posters.

The forum is a fotball forum, not a source of truth forum. It is based on rumour and heresay. King Ramson heard something and posted it, I heard something similiar from a different source.

Who knows if it is correct or not. Things change. And if you copped flak, you shouldn't have if you were trying to impart knowledge to the forum.

Personally I don't really care with the bikkering going on here, I am well over that type of posting when it comes to football and specifically this thread. Who you fight with is not my interest or issue.

We offered Billings more, geez their SC must be tight. One thing to remember, there has not been one word from anybody here about a whisper that the Saints have approached him in anyway.

If you don't start giving the kids some midfield time then surely they'll start to get restless. How many years are we gonna prolong giving Gresh, Hunter and Bytel midfield minutes? All were guns at junior level so why not take a punt and give them the minutes.

It's a decent point. Assuming Parker comes in and Seb leaves, Billings and Hill on the wings with Billings playing a big of HFF as well. That leaves three starting midfield spots and assume two on the bench; then I would have our mids as follows (in terms of most ToG / potential output):

Steele Parker Crouch Jones Clark Gresham Bytel Byrnes. I never include hanners in sample sides because of his injury issues.

Realistically I think like it or not, Gresh should always be 50/50 mid-forward since he can do both well. So that means one of Byrnes, Bytel or Connolly is in the side each week which I don't mind too much.

We could sign Cerra to the same money as we would Parker and he could do a substantial injury and never really get on the park either. Risks are there regardless, just risks of different factors.

I don’t think having multiple different looks to throw into the midfield is something we should scoff at given how we’ve been so lacklustre in that area for years. Steele, Parker, Gresham and Crouch can all rest forward and be effective and the longer we can:

a) have good players on the ground for longer is a good thing and

b) if we can save Steele’s body a few times a game from having to crash and bang around the ball without sacrificing our ability to win cause we have quality players to give him a chop out helps extend his body too

The problem is dealing with Bell , he would want more than a first round pick

Yes, from Sydney. That isn't taking into account the other clubs that would look at him that are probably closer to a flag in his eyes.

Most probably, his record is very very good over a period of time. He has played a lot of hard yards and more chance of breaking down at the saints at say the age of 30,31 which is exactly what we dont want.
