I should add - it would have been a dog act to dump Cameron. We were clearly into him for at least the year and got him to inform the club of his intention to leave. Brown was only made available at the last because North Melbourne were daft.
And north would have made us give up a kings ransom knowing geelong generally bend over at the trade table.

I'm not sure C Scott leaves, unless the fallout post the prelim is more significant than what we're aware. Geelong are actually pretty good at keeping this stuff in house, but still think there would have been a few whispers by now if he was going. I am a little concerned by what Barrett has supposedly stated today on radio (if true), and that there is no certainty about C Scott remaining at Geelong. Between he and Mitch Clearly, both a well connected to the inner circle at Geelong, and perhaps where there's smokes there's fire?

My mail was that the cleanout was agreed from early on to be the assistant coaching group, but they were still confident (as Scott was) that he was the best fit for the role. If he leaves, I think it would signal a pretty big shift in thinking not only by him, but also the people like Drummond and Hocking who are running the show.

If Scott did go, I'd be worried about who we are able to bring in.
- Ross Lyon probably the only 'experienced' coach available. Clarkson seems to be a firm no.
- Unless we go the same route we went in appointing Scott originally, and look at a leading assistant coach like Yze, or others.

Listening to some of Scotts comments earlier this year i think he is considering moving away from coaching (like his brother did) i dont think he will coach another club if its not us. Regardless the only better candidate than him is clarkson and he isnt available for 12 months so theres no way CS would be punted early..i imagine mid year he will decide if he wants to keep coaching and we wil decide if we want to keep him.

Yep I agree but also keen to hear more about the direction the club is going.
If we appointed Lyon as coach I’d be giving up footy until he was gone. Poor coach who has overseen poor culture on field at Saints and helped foster a poor one off field at Fremantle. If you think Scott’s media communication is annoying imagine having Lyon.

Why do you only move on Chris Scott for some other messiah?

I'd have thought that of the clubs recently requiring the services of a new senior coach Geelong would be at the bottom in terms of needing a previously successful, statesman type, elder of the game coach.

We're not a team in dire straits in terms of decades of woe, we're not a team that is massively stacked in the talent department yet failing (don't nitpick on that, I understand we lose prelims).

If anything, we are primed for another respected and ready assistant to take the reigns in his first go.

All it takes is the words that got Chris his job - "My focus is not just about 2022 but 2025 and beyond also."

Conspiracy theory number 4111 do we hire ex legend players as a way of their earlier salary sacrifice whilst playing. other words did we get around the salary cap by them taking under while playing and we then hire them as assistants on fair wedge. next Harry Taylor will be an assistant soon

I really liked walsh last year so i wouldnt be against a rookie spot but next years draft looks very good for rucks so thats a comparison we need to weigh up. We need to trade in a ruck more than we need to draft one although id like to do both.

If the club rates him, he would not be bad. I was surprised he was not put on a Rookie list at Carlton.

There was talk awhile ago ..of a Rookie list specifically for rucks. , lets call it Rookie R... to develop more tall ruck players. Whether it would just see less talls drafted and the overall numbers staying the same or not would be debatable but I suspect the way Jackson has played recently, obviously talented tall kids will still be drafted. I doubt Mac Andrew will be there after R1 this year. The Conway type would be interesting. If a ruck is a 30ish type but 3-5 years away would he not be drafted. Perhaps they would have to be a player passed over like a Henry type.

Letting Fort go would be proactive imo. He is contracted so our choice.. We have shown he will not be selected. We will play Stanley, the Sav and Blitz and then maybe even Henry before selecting him. What we get would be the usual type of spit and polish pick at the tail end of the draft imo. Maybe a future pick, maybe a player like you have previously mentioned. I like Brock Smith but his lack of progress would have me a little concerned.

How we replace Fort on the list if he gos would interest me. Personally I think the time for a mature state leauge PnP type is just about done, we have signed Stanley for two more. He will be selected most of the time ... unless the club changes its focus. So Rucks with a just about ready to go look would interest me if a trade could be done...lets say Hayes or Sweet. Im not sure on Lynch. If we have to deal with Collingwood a bit over the next couple of years it would be good if we could stay chummy. They need points.

If we have to draft one then Conway in our pick range would not be bad. Yes there are several next year, but we really do not know how they will be rated, who will be interested in drafting them and just what we have on our list. Has Neale signed yet for a contract extension? He may be a forward more than a ruck. How good is Tsap? Is SDek a backman. Well's generally has shown he can be a contrarian. When other are looking at talls he will look at the best mids as value.

Barrett on AAA saying he's not 100% convinced that Scott will coach next year based purely on scuttlebutt over in the west among football people, and that we're looking at potentially bringing back H.Taylor if not as an ass. coach, in a mentoring role. Take it with a tablespoon of salt, very speculative.
The second part interests me the most. I always felt like a guy like Harry reigned Scarlett in. He would be an excellent mentor in so many ways.

Harry is articulate and has a brain. Would love him back at the Club

Scarlett out makes sense now.
Do I win the lucky prize?

I'm going to assume Barrett and Co picked it up off here from Friday ... and then just ran with it ...

pretty happy with this, obviously he is a favourite son but has 6 years experience in a different system

is it just me or does that thought of bringing in players like Brander and Ladhams just not excite you? I mean these guys are young compared to our list but also nothing special at their current teams, there is no real reason to believe they'll be special at Geelong. For the first time in years I'd rather take a punt on the draft with a crop of 18 year olds who could be anything.

What about Ben Long. Has some nasty in him as well.

I don't need excitement.

I need a slight list refresh that pulls the age profile down and fills some holes. Brander has enough senior action to be considered a good get at a low price. So does Ladhams ... although rumours of being a bit of a party goer may not necessarily be something we would be keen on (being moved on and given an opportunity may be a good thing though).

If they don't cost us much then worth a punt.

The excitement can come from some shrewd moves to get up the draft order and bring in some potentially exciting talent that way.

I'm beginning to wonder who Scarlett got on with.
I'm thinking Scarlett got along best with Scarlett and bad luck to anyone that wasn't Scarlett

As much as some may not want to believe it or admit it, sounds like the best move so far this off season is Scarlett stepping down - no doubt a great player, but maybe not a great people person
