We have an all new coaching group. Would be good to have another Jenkins in the 2s guiding kidsId like to do what north are doing with lynch-have talia in a vfl development role but on the rookie list in case we get injuries.
Comparing 2007 structures to what is required in 2022 is the long bow of the year, 6-6-6 has left forward lines more open than ever and theres more giant key forwards than ever in the system, you just don't win without size down back these days.
We should probably play Kolodjashnij in the midfield based on your logic. Is that right?

He'd be a good midfielder
For Grovedale
would much rather get games into Zuthrie and SDK than bring in Talia for a yearWe can't afford to have a gap in the backline either. If you have more than one list weakness at a time then there are two many degrees of freedom when assessing how to improve. Worth a year
Kolo at CHB ha. Might as well throw in the towel now. O'Connor and Tuohy definite starters for mine.
O'Connor SDK Bews
Stewart Blicavs Henry
Tuohy as defender off the bench
SDK needs solid experience around him, not blithering. Kolo as 9th emergency, Atkins emergency too. Like Tom, but he is Scarlo mould
We need more confidence and surety out of defense.
I still believe that Tuohy should be played down back each week. You have him and Stewart delivering from D50 we are much more attacking moving forward. My prospective back six leans more to incumbency, I admit. Could easily look a bit different if players have a storming preseason. And MOC and Tuohy are still both in my 22, just not necessarily in the defensive group. Merrick needs to play midfield next year for mine. And Tuohy is your utility for whatever role is required, week to week.
Like you, I would be delighted if Dek forces his way in to the senior team. But I probably agree with those that think he might be only halfway to being a full-time senior player next year. The real opportunity back there is the one that Nathan appears to be foregoing by taking off to the Pies.

Stewart Henry and Tuohy are the staples
What to do with key positions becomes more interesting.

When I pointed out they were 12th this season for points conceded the discussion became.Which is strange that Freo would rather play him in the middle
The argument would be if we could keep them fit we have a defence - Ryan, Young, Chapman, Logue, Cox, Hamling, Pearce, Hughs, Wilson, Walker, Thomas.
Whatever the problems with a defence made up of something close to our first choice of those we have more holes and a bigger drop off in our midfield and forward lines.
100% agree. I think we're viewing JC as a winger for 'outside run', and we're possibly placing too much store in the idea of a 'Cerra replacement'. Though from my understanding, he could be just another running defender that adds to a list of player types we have no shortage of. I hope Freo walk away if Geelong play hard ball. Geelong could be happy to keep him this year (though I get the feeling they want to offload him while he has some worth), and if so, we could always pick him up next year for nix if both Freo and JC are still into it.
Still desperate for a lockdown small as well.
Is Bews not that?
I see Bews more as a running half back with average skills.

SHEEHAN’S TWO SMOKEYS IN THIS YEAR’S NATIONAL DRAFT
BY ALEX ZAIA 4 HOURS AGO

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan has put forward two smokeys to keep an eye on in this year’s National Draft.
Murray Bushrangers talent Tom Brown is an exciting prospect who possess “mercurial-type ability” through traffic, according to Sheehan.
“He’s a boy from the Murray Bushrangers,” Sheehan told SEN Afternoons.
“His dad Paul Brown didn’t quite play 100 games at Geelong. He’s in the open draft and this kid has got some mercurial-type ability through traffic.
“When he comes off half-back or plays half-forward, he just steps through them as if they’re not there at times.
“He’s got great speed, breaks away on many, many occasions as well.”
Yeah I mean if he has a choice he might go somewhere else or retire but I don't see any other real options for himI was thinking that plus if black doesnt go round again in the vfl we will have a very inexperienced defence there..having talia there to guide but also as a backup rookie in case of injuries isnt bad. The issue is it might be hard to convince players to come over for that sort of role if they think covid will stop the vfl comp again next year.
His oldman is built like a tank and tall. But yeah, he has that baby face, might be a late developer, a bit like how Zuthrie filled out after 3-4 years in the system. But yeah, I don't think he will play like Fletcher, but he will probably peak out at a similar 90-95kgs.SDK may be one of those blokes that never really puts on any size. His brother has had I think an extra 2 years and does not seem to have put on much size. May just have to hope Sam builds strength and rely on athleticism
Not sure he plays the same, Fletcher had good closing speeds and a massive reach. I think SDK tries to position himself for first mark, but yeah, who knows.People seem to forget what type of player Dustin Fletcher was ... SDK could very well play in the same fashion.
I would play him a bit further up the ground like CHB if his engine permits, that way he is wrestling less, and able to run more. But I have no idea what his engine is like. I hope we don't turn him into a full time ruck, because I think he has good marking ability as he is able to take marks at max reach (at the pointy end). Not sure if he has Naughton type of marking capability, but he has that ability to mark at full reach.SDK needs 10kg to even be remotely in the conversation to be ready physically and we've never been a side that just throws a kid to the wolves, will spend majority of 2022 in the twos.
Yeah, should have included Enright too, although I think in 07 he played a bit more as mid/wing. Totally agree - having a strong midfield is always the key. It's the midfield that ultimately makes your defence look either like rolls royces or toyota corollas when the opposition have the ball. That's why I think we can't afford to have players that don't use it well when we do have possession in our back half. Blicavs and Kolo, while generally ok 1 v 1, just don't have the right instincts for setting up attacking forays and it kills us. We played our best footy this year before we resorted to putting Blicavs back to FB.Fair points. (Though you forgot Enright). We also had a dominant midfield too over that period which took pressure off our defenders. If you also look at the old names it was immense in quality - Scarlett, Enright, Milburn and Mackie in particular are all time greats of the game. Only Stewart and possibly Henry (in a few years) are in that conversation.
It was mentioned on here about Dal having a career ending hip issue but nothing further.Anyone heard anything about Dal or Higgins hanging them up? (With the assistance of a payout)—
I hope we are brave enough to play good players in the twos next year - I like both of the above as people (on the surface) and loved their careers but it is what it is

No updates on Higgins on here anyway
I feel sure Higgins will play on in 2022.
