C'mon you feral Alberton, INXS butchering pricks... sign Dunstan to a long term deal now... your midfield is cooked!

given the issues there their midfield might not be the only thing cooked...

sounds like some players there have been up to no good

big huge **** off "buyer beware" sign going up on any contracted port players who are reportedly getting shopped.

interesting to hear trade radio state the similarities between the dees and us. they noted that melbourne like us had two trade periods back to back where they traded their first rounders away.

but here is where there is a difference and is what is making things hard for us now. melbourne still made good on their mid range picks, specifically their 2nd rounders. they got 3-4 premiership players in those two years they traded them away. fritz and petty are two i can remember but there were another two.

we didnt do this. in fact we seem to have a pretty strong form line of trading away future 2nd rounders. which is why we are in the tight spot we are in now.

we'd love to upgrade our pick, but we have no 2nd rounder to help get that deal done. we've essentially traded away the supporting picks needed to help stuff happen with the first rounder.

now that there is restrictions on player movement (reduced cap which means clubs are tight) everything is now about pick trades. we have backed our selves into a corner where the depth we have, won't get any attractive deals to leave AND we don't have picks to facilitate any big moves.

It's probably been mentioned but the best chance for us to get another first is to offer Brisbane our 2nd & 3rd rounders for 2022 for their pick 15 & their 4th rounder. They'll need probably 1000 extra points for Ashcroft.

Owens at 11 :(

11. Mitch Owens (St Kilda Next-Generation Academy)
Best position:
Utility
Height, weight: 190cm, 85kg
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Projected draft range: 10-30
Plays like: David Mundy
September ranking: Outside-20
Rationale: Growing around 15cm between the start of 2019 and the beginning of 2021, Owens is a late developer who only in the last month of the NAB League season entered first round contention. His performance as a late callup for Vic Metro in a trial match against Vic Country was the game that elevated his draft standing, securing 29 disposals, one goal and two score assists. He immediately backed this up with strong NAB League play for Sandringham. With his movement, overhead marking, ball winning capabilities and rapid rate of improvement, Owens is an upside choice who with continued rapid improvement could be one of this draft's very best. Had the season not been cut short, while there is an element of speculation in rating Owens this high, with the way he was developing, he may well have been rated even more highly.
Strengths:
Late growth
Rate of development
Agility
Speed
Courage
Intercept marking
Aerial marking
Versatility
Inside/outside balance
Contested ball winning
Weaknesses:
Unclear best position
Not as advanced as other top end prospects
that is just the month of october. not how the draft rankings have worked

He didn’t have the guts to drop Hill on the back of 6 weeks of pitiful football. And we wonder why Dunstan cracked the shits?

Who did we have at Sandy who could play Hill's role? or Seb's for that matter?

Dropping blokes is fine but you need someone to take their place. Most of our replacements were hurt or couldn't get a kick in a street fight at that time.

You'd imagine there would have to have been discontent amongst a few players. Imagine your playing your hardest week in week out and you've got guys getting gifted games on the back of terrible performance with the coach inventing positions to play to help you to get decent output.

Hill, Butler, Battle even Jones had some Shockers. Kent was pretty terrible overall as well.

given i've slotted the club for trading future 2nds... i'm gonna sound like a hypocrite here, but i think that makes sense for us.

i don't think our 2022 should be any where near as bad as 2021. if it is we have much bigger problems.

i also think we need to get high up the draft this year. we need to bank talent now.

I’m not big on laughing at teams that absolutely schooled us during the season.

Our game against the Blues was probably our most pathetic effort all year

We were physically shot after being stuck in hotel quarantine in Perth for a week earlier.

When you look at that stretch of games, the Carlton game was the outlier. The effort belonged in the first 6 weeks of the season.

Wonder how McLean feels after re-signing at the Swans and now the talk is that they're chasing Ladhams.

Another decent forward/ruck on their list is Joel Amartey. Played well in his limited games this season and seems behind a few now.

Steer clear of Ladhams, Popped Corn our SA spy said he is trouble and that's when they are dumping him, but they want a first rounder for him.

Don’t know & don’t care. He was playing putrid footy & the team was playing putrid footy. A statement needed to be made. From the outside it looked awful seeing other blokes scape goated whilst Hill took home 850k doing sweet fa. Can only imagine the discontent it caused within the playing group (I’m comparing to a work environment where you have a bloke not lifting his weight). Coach needed to send a message. The timing could not have been more perfect. Look at the way the Dees have handled team selection. That’s the difference between a pro environment & amateur hour. Ratts lost a lot of respect from plenty of supporters the way he managed the team this year. Big year ahead for him I Hill.

He wasn't playing much midfield this year. He actually seemed like he was playing wing, hbf and hf with a little mid time.
Still too much for me haha

Worth remembering that Billings would have been coming top 2 in our B&F until he ruptured his plantar fascia this year, and he was still coming 4th 3 weeks after he did it.

Maybe he wouldn’t have gone on with it had he not gotten injured, but it’s also entirely possible that he was going to have that breakout year that we’ve all been waiting for. Robbo had his at that age and Karl Amon was born one day apart from Jack and he had his this year.

His numbers were seriously elite prior to his injury.

24 disposals (elite)
1.5 goals (elite)
7.3 score involvements (elite)
7.3 marks (elite)
1.8 marks inside-50 (elite)
379m gained (elite)
100.3 AFL fantasy points (elite)
106 SuperCoach points (elite)

Looking forward to seeing how he goes next year if he’s back to full fitness.
I’d love Billings to be this good as long as it’s consistent over an entire year. Yes he was injured for 2/3rds of the year, but… Even with the window of free agency, he didn’t attract much interest & thus, re-signed with us on a much reduced incentive bonus based contract.

I hope he proves me wrong, but to me, he’s just a player

To take the question at face value:

You don't get Crouch in and then add Mitchell 12 months later. Crouch addressed that need, and Mitchell is overrated.

Take pick 9 to the draft and get the best available mid, with the possible chance of reaching 5-6 picks on your draft board for a big bodied mid (not Martin or Ross big bodied but more like Cripps or Bont) who may develop a little later.

See how many of the academy kids you can get for under value. Adding a draft pick for this purpose would be nice, but would probably cost Long.

Sign Talia or Hartley as a DFA for KPP depth.

Re-sign Kent, Hunter and Joyce, delist Lonie.

So he stuck wth him and he came good and was 5th in the B&F. Maybe you just don't drop everybody in a form slump.

I don't reckon Gresham will be playing midfield- he will be slower off the mark since his particular injury, and we need pace and elite kicking in that midfield- he has neither. Might be worth a shot doing the Caleb Daniel role in the back half as a smart player linking up, as I think we lack the ground level smarts down there. Clark needs a big preseason so he can take the next step- I think he just needs to be fitter and harder in the body.. Coff is coming along OK and the rest just need to get their bodies right for a big season. I don't think we were at a good enough fitness and conditioning level his season.
His kicking is nowhere good enough to play the Caleb Daniel role. He's lucky he's fast and agile cause his kicking is like Luke Dunstan's
