Also, when one looks at the types of and history and behaviour of the majority expressing your type of views it is hard to have faith that they have the best interests of their fellow humans at heart. They serve to disrupt, divide and outrage.

Typically you are partly right whilst being fatally inadequate across the breadth of the matter. 'Woke' is a construct that is also heavily criticised by the genuine left, albeit a difficult category to locate these days because of the general decimation and disorientation of the left by 'woke' identity politics. Authors like Derrick Jensen and Caitlin Johnstone provide example of this more authentic leftist position. There are many more. None of them get exposure in the mainstream media, which is entirely about narrative control not genuine diversity and enlightenment.

For all of human in history increasing the information people had access too generally had a net benefit to society - acknowledging that information sources were heavily curated (for better or worse). With the internet I think we have reached an inflection point where there is too much information available to people and minimal curation for the majority of it, effectively creating publicly available information to support any position or view you could potentially want to hold (post fact world?).

It's the equivalent of trying to function as a leaderless mob with everyone shouting their own ideas as loudly as possible vs a group of people working together within a hierarchical structure.

No good will come of this and the chaos that we have been increasingly experiencing from late 90s onwards will only continue to escalate until society becomes so unworkable that we will crave extreme structure and order (authoritarianism).

If covid was happening 20-30 years ago we would all be taking the vaccine (whatever one was available) with only a tiny minority of people largely unheard refusing.

People on the fence would largely be swayed by the public good argument (needs of the many...) and curated expert advice they would see from traditional media (news paper, TV, radio) instead of validating their anxieties and fears with other anxious and scared people on social media.

Sure some people will die/ get sick from side effects (like with any vaccine) but due to the incredibly small number of those people and without the amplification of social media you wouldn't be hearing much about it, and the overwhelming experience of the population would be the greater good that vaccination brings.

But that world is gone. Any public policy implementation in western democracies (health, education, economic) will be beholden to an opposing vocal minority, not matter how great the public benefit would be. It's paralysis of government. Every change every program has the be fought for. Consensus is dead.

An illegal house party held in Canberra's south over Halloween and attended largely by ACT school students has become a COVID-19 super-spreader event.
