In alphabetical order, introducing the Albury Tiger-Cats. Playing in the Commonwealth Conference, the Tiger-Cats previously competed in the Ovens and Murray FL. With 21 premiership wins and a history dating back to 1876, Albury was a natural choice for awarding a franchise to the region. With a rich footballing tradition, Ben Ruttan was appointed by President Nigel Lappin. Jack Ziebell’s services were secured as captain. Albury Sports Ground will serve as training and home ground. ASG is currently undergoing a major redevelopment and will be able to accommodate 25,000 spectators when completed. Naming rights for the stadium were announced and ASG will be known as Norske Arena. Albury had to change its traditional uniform to a more modern take, due to a clash with a club from another league. At home, Albury will wear a Charcoal guernsey with an Azure, Gold and Navy Sash, Charcoal Shorts and Charcoal Socks with Azure, Gold and Navy Trim. The Sash evokes Albury’s position on the Murray (Gold) straddling the border of NSW (Azure) and Victoria (Navy). The Away kit will be a Light Gray affair, with the AFC monogram in club colours, White Shorts and White Socks with Navy Trim.

Next up is the first of the Federation Conference teams. Introducing the Cairns Copperheads, with a proud footballing tradition that dates back to 1885. The Cairns league were awarded a franchise to form a club to compete for North Queensland. Cazaly’s Stadium will serve as the Copperheads home ground and training ground. Select games will be played in Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville. President Jason Dunstall gained two key signings in coach David Teague and captain Charlie Dixon. Maroon and Copper were chosen as the official teams colours and the Copperhead snake mascot ties in with other Cairns sports teams. Cairns will wear a Copper guernsey with the club shield in Maroon on the front. Maroon Shorts and Maroon and Copper Socks round out the home uniform. The Copperheads away strip will be the same as the home but with Silver replacing the Copper, with White Shorts and White Socks with Maroon Trim.

Football in Canberra began in 1924 with the Nation’s capital moving there in 1927, providing an influx of people for the game to flourish. A franchise was approved for the Canberra Colts, a team for all in the capital. The picturesque Manuka Oval will provide home base for the Colts training and playing. With a capacity of 25,000, the Colts along with other stakeholders secured naming rights for Manuka and will be known as Bunnings Field. Hometown heroes James Hird and Patrick Cripps have been appointed by President Brett Allison as coach and captain, respectively, for the Colts first year. Teal, Navy and White were named as the colours that the Colts will represent the capital with. The Colts guernsey will be Teal with Navy Sides and a White Colt centred. To complete the look Navy Shorts and Teal Socks with Navy Top will be worn. Canberra’s Away uniform will have the lucky “C” horseshoe lettermark on a White guernsey, White Shorts and White Socks with Teal and Navy Trim.

Starting in 1890, Devonport’s history is littered with joy and despair. Paired with its 8 premiership successes are the hard times that befell the club. With Brendon Gale as chairman and Garry Lyon as co as coach, the Panthers want to bring that winning feeling back to the North-West. Kane Lambert signed on as Panthers captain to lead the team at the Devon Arena, which will serve as training and playing facility. The Panthers recently gained naming rights for their home ground which will be called Bellamy’s Arena. On Devonport’s home kit the guernsey Green represents the state and the Black Yoke is for the Panthers fur colour. Green Shorts and Black Socks complete the kit. The Panthers will wear a White Away jumper with club Shield and Green Stripes, White Shorts and White Socks with Green Trim.

The much maligned Fitzroy Football Club come back to the fold after the league extended an invitation to compete at the top level again. With 9 premierships and numerous champion players the future looks bright for the Royboys. Assisting chairman Gary Pert, will be Ross Lyon as coach at Brunswick St. Fitzroy’s home ground will be the MCG. Spearhead Jack Gunston makes his debut as captain. Royal Blue, Red and Gold have been Fitzroy’s livery for 45 years and to have it return to the big league is sensational. Royal Blue Shorts and Red Socks with Royal Blue foldover makes this an instant classic. Fitzroy’s away uniform will consist of a Red and Gold Paneled guernsey with a Royal Blue leaping Lion, White Shorts and White Socks with Royal, Red and Gold Trim.

Football in Frankston began in 1887. The Dolphins progressed through the junior leagues then onto the state league. Collecting 12 premierships along the way to securing a franchise in the national league. Training at Frankston Oval, the Dolphins will play home games at the Docklands. Dolphins legend and now chairman Jeff Sarau appointed Robert Harvey as inaugural coach. Rory Sloane will be captaining the Dolphins in a great coup for the club. Black, Red and White have represented Frankston for over 60 years locally and now does so on the national stage. The Dolphins home guernsey consists of Red and White Vees on a Black guernsey with a Dolphin centred. Black Shorts and Black Socks with Red and White Trim complete the kit. Frankston’s away kit will be an inverse of the home kit with Black and Red Vees and Black Dolphin on a White guernsey, White Shorts and White, Red and Black Hooped Socks.

Fremantle’s footballing pedigree is a testament to the working class ethic. With over 40 premierships for the Town, it’s success cannot be denied. East Fremantle Oval will host the A’s training while their home ground will be Perth Stadium. With Peter Sumich as coach and Peter Bell as chairman, past achievements bode well for the future of this club. Nathan Fyfe was signed on as captain of the A’s. Red, Royal Blue and White were selected to represent Fremantle as a merged identity. With the club Shield on a Red guernsey, White Shorts and Royal Blue, Red and White Hooped Socks completes the look. The Ath’s will wear a Royal Blue, Red, Gray and White Hooped guernsey away. Gray Shorts and White Socks with Royal Blue and Red Trim finish the kit.

With a history dating back over 100 years, Glenelg Football Club was founded in 1920. The Bays have been amongst the elite with champion goal kickers and top flight captains but have only managed 5 titles in that time. The Bays spiritual home of Glenelg Oval is the training centre while home games will be played at Adelaide Oval. President Kate Ellis was elated when she secured the services of Glenelg’s favourite sons Chad Cornes as coach and Bryce Gibbs as captain. Yellow and Black are most associated with Glenelg and will continue to do so. The home guernsey will be Yellow and a Black GFC monogram and Black Trim. The Bays will wear Black Shorts coupled with Yellow and Black Hooped Socks. Glenelg’s away strip will be a White guernsey with Yellow and Black Vees, White Shorts and White Socks with Yellow and Black Trim.

Coupled with it’s 11 premierships, is a Statewide Championship in 1959. Hobart has the pedigree to be a force in this competition. The Hellcats motto is “Ex Unitate Vires” meaning from unity comes strength. Coming home, goal-kicking machine Ben Brown was signed on as captain after President Ben Buckley appointed Chris Fagan as coach. Hobart’s training ground is North Hobart Oval and home games will be played at Bellerive Oval until the anticipated stadium at Regatta Point is built. Myrtle, Rose and Primrose are the traditional colours of Tasmania, Hobart have taken the opportunity to develop the perfect guernsey to reflect this. The home guernsey will feature the colours equally in a Hooped style. The Hellcats will wear Myrtle Shorts and Myrtle, Rose and Primrose Hooped Socks. Hobart’s away uniform will be a White guernsey with Myrtle, Rose and Primrose Banded Hoops, White Shorts and White Socks with Myrtle, Rose and Primrose Trim.

With 35 premierships in the trophy case, Launceston are the benchmark in Tasmanian football. The Axemen seemingly chop down everything in their path to ultimate glory. Founded in 1875, Volumus Vincere literally means the Will to Win. Launceston will set up base at Windsor Park and play home games at York Park. Young gun coach Brendan Bolton was signed on as coach by President Brady Rawlings after securing the services of goal kicking champ Jack Riewoldt as captain. Old Navy Blue with the LFC monogram is as traditional as a guernsey gets. Navy Shorts and Navy Socks round out this classic combination. Launy’s away kit will be the same as the home except with a Yellow guernsey with the LFC monogram, Navy, White or Yellow Shorts and Yellow Socks.

With Western Australia’s footballing heritage, it was only fitting to include a franchise from outside the major city. Mandurah came as a natural fit for the competition, with a regional fanbase to fly the flag in support of the Marauders. Rushton Park, Mandurah’s home ground, was abuzz with the news that chairman Earl Spalding had signed Matthew Pavlich as coach and Tim Membrey as captain of the Marauders. Sorrel, for the earth and Azure, for the sea represent the Marauders being land pirates. Mandurah’s home guernsey is an Azure Sash on Sorrel. Sorrel Shorts and Sorrel and Azure Socks finish off the uniform in style. Away, the Marauders will wear a White guernsey with a Sorrel Band with Azure Trim, centred is a Gold Fleur-de-lis, White Shorts and White Socks with Sorrel and Azure Trim complete the look.

Wanting to increase their presence on the national stage, the Manly Sea Eagles applied for a license in the new competition. With a strong financial backing and resources the Mantarays were born and hope to bring a real sting to the league. The Rays were ecstatic when President Brett Kirk signed champion Isaac Heeney as captain, James Kelly was Manly’s first choice as coach and duly signed him on. Manly will set up shop at Manly Oval and play home games at the more accommodating North Sydney Oval. White and Maroon represent the Manly as all sporting clubs from the area do. The home guernsey will be a White with thin Maroon Hoops. Manly will wear Maroon Shorts along with White Socks featuring Maroon Trim. The Mantarays will wear a Maroon, Black and White Thin Hooped guernsey away. This jumper is inspired by the rugby clubs that play in similar strips. Either White or Black Shorts will be worn and Maroon, Black and White Hooped Socks complete the set.

That’s 12 teams down still 12 to go. Must be time for a mid-season break. How about an All-Star Game between the Commonwealth Conference and the Federation Conference to sort out the best side of the league. Will it be the Maroons or the Feds?

IMG_5351.JPG

Commonwealth wear a full Maroon uniform with a White C on the guernsey, while Federation will don a Gold guernsey with a Cobalt Yoke and their conference Shield on the front, White Shorts and Cobalt Socks with Gold foldover complete their kit.

This is Brazil’s E.C. Cruzeiro (from Belo Horizonte):

The Southern Cross in Portuguese is called “Cruzeiro do Sul”.

Also, the Brazilian National Anthem mentions the constellation depicted in the Australian flag. It’s a symbol our countries share.

Founded in 1888, North Adelaide’s desire to be part of the national league resulted in an unlikely partnership with the Sydney Roosters. The RL team with its resources and the NAFC with its footballing heritage, prospects could not be brighter for the new entity. The Roosters home ground of Prospect Oval serves as training base while home games will be played at Adelaide Oval. North will also play one home game at the SCG in the deal. Back at the club, President Andrew Jarman signed on Jacob Surjan as coach and the talented Phil Davis as captain. Red and White date back to the founding of the club and will continue to feature. At home the Roosters will wear an Azure guernsey with a Red and White Vee, Shorts will be White and Azure Socks with Red and White Trim will be worn. The Prospect club will wear a Red and White Striped jumper for the away, Red Shorts and Red Socks with a White foldover.

With population’s insatiable appetite for Australian football, the Territory was a natural fit for a franchise in this competition. With a history dating back to 1916, Darwin fully deserves to be part of the national structure. Playing home games at Marrara Oval, the Thunder have set up training facilities at The Gardens. Chairman Michael Long invited Shaun Burgoyne to coach the team and Shannon Rioli signed on again as captain. On the home guernsey, Black, White and Earth Quarters evoke the spirit of the Territory. Black Shorts will be worn along with Black Socks with an Earth foldover. The Thunders away kit will be a White jumper with a Black and Earth Lightning Strike, White Shorts and Earth Socks with a Black foldover.

Oof, you'd get riots at Prospect Oval if that were to happen 🤣

What’s the point of a portfolio if it’s just a copy of a teams home and away. Plus I like a bit of controversy.

Parramatta wanted a team in the league to continue its growth as an all-round sporting club. The Rattlers were admitted to represent the western area of Sydney and add to the spice to the rivalry with Manly that already exists. President Tom Harley’s signings of Blake Caracella as coach and Kieran Jack as captain hope to bring Showtime to the Showgrounds this season. The Rattlers have set up training facilities at Blacktown and home games will be played at the Sydney Showgrounds. Parra chose the colours Gold and Blue to represent the area and added Green for the grass we play on. The home guernsey consists of a Green body with PR in Gold with Blue and Gold Trim, Green Shorts and Green, Blue and Gold Hooped Socks make the uniform shine. The Rattlers will wear an inverse of the home jumper in Gold with PR in Green and Green and Blue Trim, White Shorts and White Socks with Green, Blue and Gold Trim.

Perth, East Perth and West Perth all decided it was time to put aside rivalries and become one entity. The Blue Devils came about after coming to the conclusion that a united Perth would be the strongest possible club to achieve Premiership success in the new league. The Devils training ground is at Arena Joondalup and will play home games at Perth Stadium. Sam Mitchell gets his chance at a senior coaching position at United along with goal kicking sensation Jack Darling as captain, chairman Craig Turley believes he has the right team in place for success. Cobalt Blue, Red and Black all represent a United club from the merged teams. The home guernsey is predominantly Cobalt with Red and Black Bars, Cobalt Shorts and Cobalt, Red and Black Hooped Socks will be worn. The Devils will wear an Ochre guernsey away with Cobalt, Red and Black Vees with the Trident centred. White Short and Ochre Socks with Cobalt, Red and Black Trim finish the kit.
