So we just ignore the previous 32?
You don't ignore it but it makes more sense to do some deeper analysis as to why he's suddenly kicking a lot more goals. It may indicate he is capable of kicking multiple goals regularly if he is playing a different role to the last couple of seasons. Or maybe he fluked, and he'll be back to regular service next season.

Couldn't care less about Dunkley.

When does JHF tell Clarko he wants a trade to us.. surely we have been all over him especially in the last few months.

I know Rachele is a great player but if we are getting Rankine a straight swap of Rachele for JHF should be seriously considered.
JHF has the potential to lead a team to premierships does Rachele have that same grit ?
We'd be swapping last yrs pick 6 for pick 1 straight up..
Would North be willing if we are ?
Nah, not an upgrade really. No point as it doesnt really make us better.

JHF in our midfield doesn't make us better ?
I’m all for getting JHF, just not giving up our most exciting player to do it. Losing Rachelle out of our fwd/mid definitely makes us worse, which gets negated by adding JHF. Get him without giving up Rachelle so as we are much better with him

More to the point, it’s not the player being traded - it’s the contract

A contract duration is a key determinant of value
Well, that's not how it works in AFL yet ... actual trading of the contract I mean, right?

Contracted and wanting to leave vs. uncontracted and wanting to leave - one is a bit harder to get done than the other.

In terms of contract duration determining value - not sure on that one. ROB jumps to mind.

Interesting that the Blues are rumoured to be into Sholl and McAsey. 2 low priced fringe players with potential.

Maybe their aggressive overpay strategy is finally coming back to bite them, and they are now needing to pivot to keep under the salary cap.

Might be worth asking the question on players rather then picks if these 2 ask for a trade. I loved Kemp coming out, Admittedly I haven't seen him play since. Also, a part of me would love us to ask for Stocker. Just for the fun of full circling that trade that never ended!

When you win contested ball (+54), disposals (+22), inside 50s (+21) and clearances (+12) in what effectively worked out to be a losing final - its smart to go after good outside players who can use the ball effectively.

I don't expect many to be surprised about this Izak Rankine trade request. Redhorse called it years ago. #bigfish

Well. 1 official announcement down - I know we still need to make it happen but I am sure we will.

Hoping for a couple of other official announcements soon too.

Anyone hear Alastair Clarkson mention he wants some 26-27 yr olds at North Melbourne.......made me think of Matt Crouch

Good, he deserves to be playing AFL, just not with us.

Wonder if we will try the Poulter Frampton straight swap with Collingwood? Not sure what we'd actually want out of that deal.

I think he was likely thinking of other 27year olds.

Yes, that’s exactly what happens here.

Contracted and wanting to leave vs. uncontracted and wanting to leave - one is a bit harder to get done than the other.

Still contractual terms and residual rights

That’s exactly a value determined by duration. As is Grundy’s

So I have 2 years left on my contract, I go to Geelong - they pay my exact contract for the remaining 2 years? I understand that the existing terms might be a starting point for the new contract, but no-one is directly buying the contract are they? Sometimes a contracted player leaves for a better $ and more years.

Still contractual terms and residual rights
If the contracted player is wanting to leave - the only way that the club holding the current contract agrees to rip it up is if they are compensated in some other way. That is why it costs more to get a contracted player out of a club than an uncontracted player. The contractual terms and residual rights have a value - that value is basically the extra cost to throw them out.

That’s exactly a value determined by duration. As is Grundy’s
Ok - value to whom - the club or the player? And when are you determining this value - when it is struck or now?

I'd say when the contract is first agreed to, the club and the player agree on a value that is in both $ and years.

After that, it can go lots of ways!
