Getting a Lyon as coach and Goddard as an assistant vibe.

to be honest, this not a terrible idea.

if half the players cared as much as goddard did it would be a world of difference

Pretty well known

You said his treatment of women, plural.

I get that same uncomfortable feeling reading what he said, as I do with all of these hamfisted pick up attempts / creepy scenarios / ridiculously dumb jokes which are the subject of examples in CPD sessions, etc, so I'm not seeking to diminish that but I reckon it's fair to move on from 1 incident 10 years ago unless there is more.

How would social media survive if we weren't allowed to continue to be outraged from incidents 10+ years ago?

Was a very smart player, wouldn't necessarily be a bad guy in a development / VFL role learning the ropes. Mundy or JPK as a stoppage coach for similar reasons, they were great at it and it's a fairly narrow role as a good step in to the industry.

agreed. i reckon goddard would be a great addition to a team.

Playing coaches in seniors and reserves, yes, but 19s?
Why not? They'd only barely invented the word 'teenager' by the 1950s and many or most didn't finish high school. They'd be 3-4 years into their working lives by U19s and pretty well capable adults left to do their own thing without Dad coming to watch and deciding he was going to run the training drills.

It'd be harder to gain the respect of the playing group when at that age you wouldn't have really proven much on the field and they'd more be your peers that are trying to get above you in the pecking order. Generally playing coaches have established themselves via their playing ability and tactical nouse.

It may have happened in the u19s, it may have been common, I just found it surprising.

From my impression, Lyon made great teams that were very well drilled and had a rigged defence. Those teams though lacked goal scoring flair.
Also those Lyon teams were a contrast to the Richmond winning push the ball forward at all costs, fast moving teams, which I think Dons had tried to implement without the Dusty Martin type player..

Does Dons list correlate at all to what Lyon has coached before, or would we be looking at turfing out a bunch of Dons players?

I like the idea of Don Pyke.

If he's keen, I'd imagine he'd want to get some redemption, but what I really like is that he's been and seen the Sydney system and as much as I hate the Swans (even though I live in Sydney and am from Sydney) they have been one of the most successfully run organisations in the country in any industry.

The way he had Adelaide playing prior to the GF was some of the best footy I'd seen.

Outside of Pyke, I'd be all in on Ross Lyon (If he wants it) At the very least, we would become very hard to score and play against.

Hird is not the answer, unless maybe in a CEO role or Head of footy role.
