How many goals did collingwood get from the ball taking a ridiculously lucky bounce and turn in that game? I think at least 2-3 of their goals came from this. Both degoey last quarter goals came exactly from turnovers due to freakishly unluckily bounces of the ball. I can’t recall such unluck like that for some time.

We should have realistically won by 12-18 points in that last

They're allowed to call ball at every tackle, that's just passion and also a bit ritualistic, as was the calls of deliberate. The pies got an arguably bad call early and they were just calling out deliberate for everything, no matter how absurd, done in humour for more than conviction.

The two deliberates called beforehand against the Pies were not bad calls.

Those ones that got pinged have been called deliberate all season and rightfully so. The umpires have been hot on teams dump kicking the ball forward to the boundary line to gain territory as deliberate tactics and ping it every time

They are allowed to and we are allowed to ridicule them.

Never said they weren't, but from where I was - side on, it really didn't have the right perspective and they looked bad, even if in reality they weren't bad. Also you cant take the pantomime from the footy, people like to boo 'the baddies'

Watching the last quarter right now before work, the commentators were adamant the JDG deliberate wasn't the right call. Since when are you allowed to have a clear kick and hit it 60m to the boundary with no teammates in sight and it's not deliberate?
Yep, that vision from behind him is quite clear.

Holmes is flying under the radar massively at the moment. Not many talking about him.
He was absolutely brilliant on Saturday and has been for the last 2 months.
Every game he is growing.
He provides so much to the team.
Yup, and I’m so glad we jumped into the first round to get him. A player for years to come.

Very quickly becoming one of my favourites. I don't know why, but I am constantly surprised by his speed. He gets the ball with an opposition player right on his heels, then just burns them. Love how confident he is in tacking them on - he knows they're not catching him. I've seen others mention his kicking this year - the improvement has been unreal. He looked shaky in his first season with ball in hand, but his kicking is a genuine weapon now. Add in his pace, work-rate, scoreboard impact...it's hard to know what his actual ceiling is, but I'm excited to find out.
This was his natural progression and clearly his confidence comes from knowing no one will catch him. Had so much time with ball in hand to deliver properly. Love him.

Agreed.

And it drives me absolutely bonkers that the commentators have no idea about the rule.

The rule has changed in the last 10 years, it is no longer a free kick if you deliberately put the ball out of bounds, the rule is that you have to make a legitimate attempt to keep the ball in. There is a big difference between these 2 interpretations, but apparently the commentators still think it is 2010.

The commentators create hysteria about correct adjudication of this rule nearly every game. Amateur hour.

This is a major problem with the game and it fuels the fans anger and misunderstanding of the rules. The commentators are not umpires and do not have a clear understanding of the rules and the profession, half are ex players, and based on what you see each week, players are assholes and constantly trying to exploit the rules. The commentators initial reaction is to always question a free kick and then watch it in slow motion and agree or concede.

I’m glad there’s more analysis of what the players did wrong that cost them the game. But the issue is, free kicks get talked about in the media ad nauseam and blamed for changing the outcome.

I’m not saying they can’t be critical, criticism is important but the constant commentary and questioning of correct calls or line balls is unnecessary

There were 4 shocking bounces that contributed 19 points by my viewing. The 2 in the last quarter for both of their goals.

Then Holmes in the 2nd quarter running into an open goal and the ball bounces over his head and a very similar bounce for O'Connor in defence where it went back over his head to Mihocek who snapped and missed.

At the game I thought the Holmes and O'Connor ones were blues but on replay they both got stinking bounces.

People, if you can call them that, from Rich/Coll/Ess like to influence the umpiring with their bias.
It's annoying because it's ignorant, and marks them as football fanatics rather than football supporters.
Umpires have woken up to that pressure.

What about the leg break with about 5 seconds to go in the 4th quarter that landed in their lap... thank god the siren went soon after!

True. Also, was there was a bit of dew around and our players did not adjust?
That time of day conditions, particularly on colder days can be a little deceptive. Hopefully warmer/dryer conditions for subsequent games might get rid of the fumbles
(not the quirky bounces though!)
I also wonder if the transitional twilight lighting messes with vision, as there were a few straightforward marks misjudged.

So in reality if we eliminate some luck it probably would have been 4 goals to 0 last quarter. I say luck because the ball bouncing like that is very lucky to just land in your lap
