Opinion Sad to see the G so empty for a final

How bloody funny would it be if Collingwood choke tomorrow night.

Explain how it would be a choke? Try to use critical thinking above a 5 year old level.

Expected to finish top 4.
Called lucky all year.
Pushed the minor premiers to the line in an epic Qualifying final.

We've had a successful season. Literally can't choke because this was unexpected. Poor post.

There was probably 15-20k lions there at least, make of that what you will from dees side of things
I heard closer to 25k, which all things considered is pretty good.

62k for this matchup is actually pretty decent. Melbourne is no Richmond/Collingwood and the Lions fans did their part clearly.

Imagine if we could have Lions Melbourne support + Brisbane support combined. Would easily be 50-60k alone.

The ones in the know including Buckley expected you to be here again.

You’ve been in a GF, PF and SF recently with 1 embarrassing season no one expected but you dealt with a lot more injury.

The nuffy public or outsiders are the ones that expected you to stay in the bottom 4, probably because of a fire sale and a new coach but obviously you’re better than that, just got rid of some bad eggs.
Always had the talent.
2021 is the outlier not 2022.

You’re a good side that just lost another final. A side that doesn’t often win finals themselves.
The improvement is massively overrated.

It’s actually fairly normal.
The big 4 supporter bases draw big crowds, but this isn’t much of a surprise. 62,000 for a semi is fine.
Game should’ve been played at Marvel. Or are home final disadvantages only allowed for Cats? I know there’s 3 other clubs who suffer but they don’t make finals much or at least home ones

Tonight’s crowd was pretty good in my opinion.

Below is the crowd of every Vic/Non-Vic SF match since 1990 at the MCG.

VIC vs. NON-VIC (MCG Semi Finals Since 1990)
  • 1996 (Essendon v West Coast) = 85,656
  • 1993 (Essendon v West Coast) = 75,453
  • 2018 (Collingwood vs GWS) = 72,504
  • 1992 (Geelong v West Coast) = 71,745
  • 2015 (Hawthorn v Adelaide) = 70,879
  • 2012 (Collingwood v West Coast) = 65,483
  • 2009 (Collingwood v Adelaide) = 62,184
  • 2022 (Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions) = 62,162
  • 2000 (Carlton v Brisbane Lions) = 56,924
  • 1999 (Carlton v West Coast) = 55,982
  • 1997 (North Melbourne v West Coast) = 55,781
  • 2017 (Geelong v Sydney) = 55,529
  • 2011 (Hawthorn v Sydney) = 55,198
  • 1995 (North Melbourne v West Coast) = 53,759
  • 2013 (Geelong v Port Adelaide) = 52,744
  • 2019 (Geelong v West Coast) = 51,813
  • 2002 (Adelaide v Melbourne) = 51,533
  • 2004 (St Kilda v Sydney) = 50,671
  • 2009 (Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions) = 47,030

  • 2008 (Western Bulldogs v Sydney) = 42,731
  • 2010 (Western Bulldogs v Sydney) = 39,596
I think people have become too accustomed to sell out finals crowds.

I think people have become too accustomed to sell out finals crowds.
I think people have forgotten that it's usually only the Big 4 playing eachother or at the very least another Melbourne club, that pull massive massive numbers outside of Prelims/Grand Finals.

Great post, in the end 62k ended up being a ripper crowd and it felt like it at the game. I expect 75k for the Prelim.

That’s fairly trash for a semi final.
Really? Semi finals since 2000 of Victorian team vs interstate team

2000 Carlton vs Brisbane 56k
2002 Melbourne vs Adelaide 51k
2004 St Kilda vs Sydney 50k
2008 Bulldogs vs Sydney 42k
2009 Bulldogs vs Brisbane 47k
2009 Collingwood vs Adelaide 62k
2010 Geelong vs Fremantle 45k
2010 Bulldogs vs Sydney 39k
2011 Hawthorn vs Sydney 55k
2012 Collingwood vs West Coast 65k
2013 Geelong vs Port Adelaide 52k
2015 Hawthorn vs Adelaide 70k
2017 Geelong vs Sydney 55k
2018 Collingwood vs GWS 72k

Initial ticket sales had 3900 Brisbane members out of 28000 tickets sold which is just under 14%. Doesn’t include the very Melbourne supporter dominate MCC which would swing the percentage even further Melbourne’s way.

But let’s say Brisbane had 14% of 62000, that’s about 8500
