Lions have nothing to lose. They've knocked off a top 4 team already. They can go into this game just going for it without fear.

Geelong on the other hand...there has to be some scars over the last decade. Will there be a fear in them if it gets into the 4th quarter and it is closer than anyone expects.

Geelong should win. But betting against Geelong in finals matches since 2011 would make you rich by now.
Bizzare comment given geelongs finals record of late is better than brisbanes.

Also geelong and Brisbane have the exact same thing to lose, a grand final appearance.

Cats have only played 2 finals team post bye and generally had a very soft draw to finish the season. They looked good against Collingwood but interesting to see how another week off impacts them.

It impacted us last year or the year before, we were flat. The pre finals bye has diminished the advantage top 4 teams once had.

Even if you don’t count Collingwood in the QF it’s still three.

Rd15- Richmond
Rd17- Melbourne
Rd20- Bulldogs

Which is only 1 less than Brisbane. In fact our schedules post bye are pretty similar.

Week One - Lions are no chance against the Tigers or at the MCG (with side comments about how Richmond will match up against the Swan who were going to lose to the Demons)

Week Two - Lions are no chance against the Demons not only played at the MCG but they are the Demon's bunnies and played their GF against the Tigers last week (with side comments about the Demons vs Geelong matchup)

Week Three - Lions are no chance against the Cats who won the minor premiership and already beat them this year, at the MCG and played their GF last week against the Demons and the Cats are fresh and ready to pounce (with side comments about the flag being Geelong's to lose and whoever they play in their Grannie will lose and won't it be great to see Danger lift the cup)

Week Four (should be win) - Lions are no chance against the Swans/Pies, no way they can win three on the trot at their bogey ground, played their GF against the Cats, only their because of ARC/injuries/whatever excuse turns up re Cats, (with side comments about how great it would be for the game for Swans/Pies to win and the generics awesomeness of Buddy/Pendlebury etc)

On the other hand we like being the underdog so all good :)
What’s the MCG got to do with week 1?

This could be the Cats last serious chance for quite a while with Dangerfield 33 next year Selwood 34?. A lot of pressure on them to win a flag.
Same can be said about the Lions with Zorko 34 and Rich 33 next season though

They're the underdogs, but they have a spot in the grand final to lose, same as Geelong. And as a lot of Geelong's 200-odd game players can probably tell you, those opportunities don't come easy.

I like us in a tight contest, my fear would be Daniher and Cameron combining for 8-9 goals. Adams has often given our key forwards trouble, so it will be interesting to see how they go against the full strength Geelong forward line. I like Stanley to have a big game against whoever Brisbane goes with in the ruck. Should be another high quality game and the Lions are every chance.

How do Brisbane have nothing to lose?
It’s a finals series ffs.
The have an opportunity to make a Grand Final and win a flag.
The pressure is more on Geelong sure, but to say Brisbane don’t have anything to lose is ridiculous.

people were saying the same thing in the Collingwood QF thread. "Free hit" and "cats under more pressure" - I don't really get it, it's the finals? People always talk about how unless you win the flag it's worth jack shit so why would a 'free hit' prelim loss be any better than any other prelim loss? Are clubs suddenly celebrating finals losses now?

Both teams have equal motivation and pressure IMO, Grand Final spot on the line, they are bloody hard to get to.

I remember being at Junction Oval the morning after our 2004 GF loss and 4th GF appearance in a row and the great Leigh Matthews said never take a GF for granted you never know it could be another 20 years before you reach another one.

It was only 10 points difference last time at the Cattery Hipwood didn’t play last time I’m seriously confident that We win this our breakthrough at the G will have the players quite confident both Daniher and Big O back Geelong first game in 21 days they didn’t really put Collingwood away in the last game they played

Fair point.
But for Geelong there was no Selwood, Stewart, Rohan or Zach Guthrie (who will probably play on Hipwood).
And Adams is a huge out.

It was 10 points but we kicked pretty poorly. Had a lot more scoring shots and inside 50s.
Hopefully we can kick accurately this week.
Will be a tough game to win for both teams as most finals are.

It's our 2nd game in 21 days.

Lose this week and you miss out on a crack at the flag, at gifting your fans all the fun and festivities of grand final week, of giving this quality side an opportunity to go all the way. Brisbane have been building to a grand final over the last few years, this isn't as if Gold Coast have snuck up out of nowhere. I think you underestimate what Brisbane have achieved, this is a huge opportunity for them. You never know when you will make a prelim again.
