It's the first time a minor premier has exited in straight sets since the introduction of the top 8 system in 2000.

It's definitely one of the biggest chokes, last time a 1st placed team had this happen was back when it was a 12 team competition. I don't remember the last time a top 2 team lost both home finals. I can only remember Port lost an away final and then a home final from 3rd, 2 years ago.

Hawks travelled 12 times in 2025, Adelaide only 10.

Hawks were the better team, Adelaide only finished higher on the H&A ladder due to their easy fixture...13 games on their home ground, 11 of which against a team where they get a significant advantage.

Melbourne based teams get what 5 if they are lucky

A bit deceptive though when four of those games are Launceston. Hawthorn is peaking at the right time, the Crows peaked during the showdown — the Hawks current position now mirrors where the Crows were six weeks ago. That’s the big difference.



I don’t think Hawthorn can beat Geelong but like Collingwood they now get two home finals if they are good enough…

I’ve watched the end of that game many times. And I’ve watched the whole game many times. We won, the lost, and so sad you keep going on about free kicks and tub of green against the club that has the worst free kick ration in history of the VFL/AFL.

Reviewed all the umpiring in that game, Hawthorn had the worst of it at start.

People only remember the wrong decisions that went against Port at the end, but if you take into account all incorrect decisions in the 2014 prelim Hawthorn had the overall net loss.
