Rain looks like it's coming now.

Interesting supporters of both sides seem to think the rain will favour them: Geelong because it suits a more contested physical style, Brisbane because it helps create more of a 'chaos ball' style to upset our structures.

Will be fun to see how it plays out.

Well if you watch the game rather than focusing on the result their footy has been really good - Neale has entered god-mode, Hipwood in career best form, & they have showed real grit to hang in games & do the 1 percenters well

The 1-6 prelim cats should under-estimate them at there peril
If anything I am doing the opposite, I rate them and am not blown away with the narrative of huge underdog lions won finals. I think they are rightfully where they should be. They should have beaten Richmond and Melbourne has completed the final piece of their second half of the year collapse that was looming ominous.

Oddly it will suit us as if Brisbane are to win it will come from slingshot out the back style of game catching us off guard. It will be pluckish is the best way to describe seeing them win.

I think rain will eliminate this possibility, but will also interrupt our spread and carry game so it will get interesting.

Exactly my sentiment but more nicely put. Nobody should be getting so wowed by brisbanes wins as they rightfully should have been viewed in higher regard going into those games than they initially were.

Brisbane are a quality team and should have more respect than given so far.

I do think part of it is that both those games are ones we'd lose in recent times. Coming into the Richmond game, we were 0-3 in sudden death finals since 2019 including losses by 1 and 3 points. Coming up against Melbourne, we'd not won at the MCG since 2014, Melbourne had beaten us by 58 at the Gabba 3 weeks prior.

My boys the Geelong Cats to win the preliminary final to give themselves the best shot at winning their first premiership since 2011 and further cementing Chris Scott as the greatest win/loss % coach of all time.

Geelong by 49 points
Zach Gutherie the best on ground

Danniher to kick 6 for Brisbane
Sacrilige!!

I think people get way too obsessed into past finals performance as a labeling tool to judge a team over rating them or underrating them and overlook the home and away season form while doing so.

Melbourne are an example of a team that was shockingly overrated this year.. their second half of the year form was bottom 10 standard, yet the media couldn’t get their hands off it talking about some imaginary gear they would kick into come finals. More often than not what you produce in the HA is what you produce in the finals.. magic gears down exist.

You take out that covid wiped game and Brisbane sit top 4 comfortably. The finals balanced itself out to account for this.

Geelong collingwood comfortably the best two sides in 2022 with their second half of the year formlines, which showed in probably the match of the season in the first week of the finals. But both subject to amazing derogatory comments due to geelongs prior finals record and collingwoods close wins.

We will find out more tonight and tomorrow, but at the very least the football universe sorted itself out and the four best sides are left standing in the squid games

Watching the game between the two sides in 2021, Brisbane got robbed big time. Not only did they get robbed of a shot on goal to win the game, but there were at least two other occasions throughout the match where they weren’t paid HTB which resulted in Geelong goals.

How is the weather in Melbourne at present and what is the general consensus on whom the wet will favour more?
Oh, I just looked at the radar and it is going to be very wet. Also read back through a few posts and it seems there are several perspectives on why the wet might favour either of these teams. Hoping for a big Brisbane win!!

Bizzare to bring up 2021?? Why not look at the 2022 game??

Curious to know this as well
My area was meant to have sprinkles of rain starting from midday and heavy showers from 3pm.

It barely started spitting here 10 minutes ago.

**if it rains heavy during the match the Lions players won't feel as left out as they'll also have wet glistening arms just like the Geelong players!!

Rain has set in here in Mel and I'm not far from the ground. Ground does drain well so if it stops could be a good game

My office looks out over the G.

I don't know if they're just doing some test or something, but I'm seeing the lights attempt to come on and then flicker and turn off again, over and over.

That'd be hilarious, if there was a power issue or something......

I’ve not seen a team with average games as high as Geelong is tonight - 165 games.

Almost 16 games avg finals exp per player.

Gotta hand it to Geelong. They have done magnificently to get so many 31-34yr olds all performing really well in the same team. Very few could pull that off.

It would've been extremely unlucky to lose all three of the close knockouts in a row though. I think it was being at home and starting as warm favourites is what drew criticism (for the two SFs), but ultimately they were toss of the coins.

Unpopular opinion but I really don't think these hoodoos or history (both recent and ancient) mean much. Not when it comes to finals and everything is on the line. The better team finds a way or if it's a nail biter, luck comes into it. Brisbane have had two meritorious victories but their tails will be up more over the performances more than snapping finals/MCG streaks.

It's really Geelongs to lose. But surely at Kardinia Park they won't. Cats by plenty.
