Lasting memory of KH for me is that side on hit he gave Dangerfield that he got up and continued playing from while Danger was out for about 5 weeks and wasn't the same when he returned, absolutely broke him.

All the best Ronnie, you're a bloody good young man and we were proud to have you.

I couldn't find vision of this sadly. By rights, Kyron might lament how his (impressive output as a % of his games tally) body on the line moments didn't convert into the staying power that our own mighty mouse has seemed to enjoyed. I'll link this as an enjoyable "take that paddy" standin.

(edit: after actually watching that i'm reminded of my old thoughts regarding concussion in contact sports. How many of the minor brain injuries that could accumilate and end up to serious damage are the result of these type of non-head-high collisions (whiplash), and when sports realise it/feel responsible to do something about it how can they continue on in anything that resembles their origins? OFFTOPIC)

Also had some bad luck in getting injured while playing well on debut. And missing the 2nd half of 2020 through injury, after he'd established himself in the side.

Marquee Subiaco recruit Kyron Hayden will miss the 2023 WAFL season after scans confirmed he had torn his ACL in an innocuous training incident from the weekend.

And South Fremantle is also resigned to the loss of two of its biggest stars after Blake Schlensog and Matt Parker left their training program and haven’t returned.

Subiaco chief executive Peter Capes confirmed the extent of Hayden’s injury to CODE Sports on Wednesday afternoon, explaining he was hurt when a teammate fell across his knee in a training drill.

“He won’t play this year,” Capes said. “It is terrible news. No good for him because he has been injured enough.”

Hayden, 23, appealed as one of the most exciting additions to WAFL football this season after four years and 17 games at North Melbourne, which had also been frequently interrupted by injury.

Capes said Hayden was “quite upbeat” given the devastating nature of the news.

“He has come to grips with it. He has had some experience with injuries and I think he takes it all within his gait,” he said. “We did some training before we played our practice match against West Coast last week because quite a few of the senior boys weren’t playing in that. It was just innocuous, tackled, they fell over, and that was it. No good.”

The Lions were looking to Hayden to play a key role in their bid to climb back to finals after a disappointing 2022.

“We were quietly very confident he would have a big impact, certainly in our midfield,” Capes said. “We are just gutted for it because he has never really been able to stay fit long enough to show what he can do. We have been watching him in pre-season and match simulation and he had a lot to offer.”

Meanwhile South Fremantle, already reeling from the loss of eight premiership points for breaching the salary cap in the 2021 season, are bracing for a start to the season without two stars after Parker and Schlensog left their program and have yet to return.

Parker, 27, who had spent two seasons on Richmond’s list after being a mid-season rookie list pick in 2021, had played 11 games for the Tigers across 2021 and 2022 on top of 19 for St Kilda in a previous stint in the AFL.

The Bulldogs were hoping he would replace Sandover Medallist Haiden Schloithe in their structure. Club officials still hold out some hope that he will return at some stage but he has now been absent from training for about six weeks.
