Did John Ralph say we are heavily into Redman with a big money offer tonight on the Couch? Maybe, just maybe, we are a chance here?
The jungle drums have been beating here for a while now

The longer he remains unsigned, the more we are a chance

Don't need to be Jon Ralph to surmise we would have rattled Redman and his management's cage with what the AFC management have been talking in regards to bringing SA lads back home.

Ralph saying we've offered Redman $750K -800K ......now we wouldn't pay that to retain Lever ....but we are with Redman ??

So who blows out the other end, as a result of the deal ....there's always consequences

A lot of players coming thru together, who'll want to be paid .......

The figure Ralph has quoted, has come from Redman's Manager ......classic rattling of ESS's cage .....and ADEL rightly so will make no comment, hoping ESS pay up

Elite rebounding half back with good intercept game >>> elite interceptor with okay offensive game

Think the Sloane + possibly Doedee money coming off the books will help our cap situation

Sloane plays 1 more year, Doedee stays ......ok, now pay Thilthorpe, Rachelle, Soligo, Pedlar, Hinge ect ......which one are you prepared to lose

Because if you think our list won't be targeted by other clubs ....you'd be naive

What’s changed? 6 years and a new pay deal coming. Surely you’re not suggesting wages have and will remain the same?

As for how? Tex, Sloane and Smith will be gone in 1-2 years. Plus we would have been planning for this with front loading contracts and we’ve said we will be targeting to bring players in.

You think we’d be prepared to keep Doedee over those five? I highly, highly doubt it, with Worrell on board. Sloane going on one more year won’t affect anyone but those still OOC this year (Jones, McAdam, Schoenberg)

You really don’t want this to be true, do you haha

Surely Essendon match redman tho knowing their list manager, they’ll have the money.

Are we going to be forced to trade for him?

Why is Redman talked about as a priority trade target. He's a half back flanker( a good one) but not a KPP player and we have plenty of talented players that can fill that role.
Surely we have greater priorities than a rebounding half back.

We need to find another key defender with genuine height, that can be a good match up on the legitimately tall forwards.
McAsey was drafted as that player but as we know it hasn't panned out well so we need to find another option.
Any long term injuries to our current tall defenders and we are vulnerable and short on replacements.

A key tall forward to replace Tex in the team.
Fog might be our future centre half forward but I think he is more effective as the second option.
He hasn't shown any propensity to control the forward line and is extremely one sided.
Gollant shows promise but is slight and under sized for the position.
Thilthorpe shows promise but he is easily pushed off the ball and looks more a full forward and second ruck than a true centre half forward.
Another tall addition to the forward line in a couple of years is a must.

A couple of quick and skilled midfielders.
We can never have enough quality in the centre square, the more the better.

The money they're talking we should be going after a difference maker.

Friggin hell Wayne, look at the top teams with their stars and they keep adding players. If we can’t manage our salary cap to bring in 3 players in 3 years, we are doing it wrong.

Ok, who are these players who are available for us to go after?

No ....I've stated my position re high cost defenders ....when we have greater needs

So, you'll say to Doedee, "we don't want you" ....we want Redman

Now that's a bad situation

Its because he is an RFA that makes it so tempting - if he wants to come and we offer enough..Essendon might not match if the compo pick is better than what we would offer them.

Hence getting him in for salary and no draft capital is a huge plus - he would fit like a glove into our backline and he is a big metres gained player. Then we would still have this years picks to either use in a trade or take to the draft.

You should never knock getting high end talent into the side when it does not disrupt your draft hand

Of course they will if the numbers Ralph is quoting are correct then it will be up to how bad Redman wants to come back to Adelaide/SA.
The few times Redman has been quoted I haven't got the vibe that he's desperate to head over to Adelaide? Smart play by his management methinks to extract every possible $$$ out of his signiture.

I think Sloane will go around one more time, or will want to at least go again

Are you talking from a player cultural standpoint? I don’t see it being an issue as long as we offer Doedee what is considered a ‘fair’ deal. No doubt he’ll get big offers from other clubs with how in vogue the intercept defender is, currently (rumours are the Cats and Dogs are into him in a big way)

750-800k is overs from a pure monetary standpoint for Redman, but you pay it in order to get a quality player of need across. And Redman, with Smith growing older, is a bigger need for our list than Doedee, with Worrell on board, and arguably the best needs player that’s realistically available to us

And as GK said, we wouldn’t go chasing Redman without knowing that we have the salary structure to make it work (front loading Redman’s deal probably the key here)

That's my take as well ......similar conversations to ours on Doedee ....why let a player go, if the pick compensation is modest

Maybe since Smith is clearly at the end of his playing career so decided to offer $50-100K overs to get a FA player like other clubs have done to not cost them draft capital?

See, this is my feel ....grab a FA who is available, not the greatest need .....I can understand that from a supporter's POV .....stuff the cost, he's free and available

However I don't agree, we don't have Smith covered .......Hinge is a run & carry player, with a penetrating kick

Plus, we covered Smith last weekend OK

Wanna spend $800K .....spend $900K and get a Midfielder .....doesn't have to be a FA, Contracts mean little these days
