I remember feverishly following the BOM forecast for the 2021 grand final as they were predicting rain to hit the night of the game and was dreading it would arrive early as the Dogs had some good wins in the wet that year, and we would always struggle.

Had a big smile on my face the following day watching the Sunday footy show and seeing the umbrellas on full display.

Agree. They've gotten better this year but still have some mental demons in finals. Don't trust them.
That's just rubbish about mental demons. We lost a prelim by embarrassment and won in the next finals. Geelong had mental demons* then won when they were the best team by pissing it in. Brisbane even beat us in Melbourne last year so do we have mental demons? Lazy analysis

Blowing leads, losing to cellar dwellars, almost complete inability to win at the 'G, and a team littered with flaky front-runners.

Talent-wise, they're probably the best team in it. Just don't trust them though.
At the end of the day if these were all big problems like you say they still finished above us so we must be equally crap

You mean 2018? We didn't even make the next finals, we finished second last with 5 wins, and followed that up by missing finals again in 2020.

Call it mental demons, call it being a bunch of soft campaigners, same thing really.
I reckon we absolutely were a bunch of soft campaigners leading up 2021 and I think Brisbane are now.

Actually really keen on the Port/Lions game.
No one rates Port, there's no expectation on them at all, but there is a lot of expectation on the Lions.

I can see it being really close, and an upset wouldn't surprise me at all.

The next finals we were in*

We allowed Sydney a a massive run on of like 4 goals in 4 mins. Against North we gave them a 30 point lead. Hawks pushed us for a half. We simply cannot have these lapses. Zero. And this would be bucking a trend in our game

Quite possibly – they're different issues though. For instance, we were 10-2 at the G this year, whereas they've won 1 out of their last 15 there.

They also haven't made a GF in 20 years, despite having numerous chances over the last four years where they probably should have. 3-6 in finals over that period, too.

The H&A season is one thing, finals are another. They have an extensive history of disappearing in big games, and for that reason, I don't trust their ability to win the flag yet.

So we were a bunch of soft campaigners that went on to win the flag (2021)

Conversely, Brisbane have been a bunch of soft campaigners who won’t go on to win the flag (2023)?

Tripping over your own logic there Toump 🤔

Which bit don’t you understand?

We had the talent to make finals in 2020. Injuries aside to finish second last in 2019 was pathetic.

We sorted our shit out and won a flag. Have Brisbane sorted their shit out? They still look a bit flaky to me.

I dunno mate I think you're trying to convince yourself more than work off logic.
They pumped both us and Collingwood. Beat Collingwood in Melbourne and belted us for the most of the game at the G as well and wouldn't lost that same game again.

Finals records are a stupid number.

We had a 2-1 finals record in 2018, but that's only because we were too shit to get top 4 where as you win a qualifying final and lose a prelim you get a 1-1 record.

Brisbane clearly look better this year than any other year, no other team has played at their best this year.

Geelong had a shit finals record previous then stomped the finals. Every year is different

I think it’ll be a great test for Brisbane as port traditionally play well as underdogs under Hinkley. IMO lions get up, but under two goal margin.

There's a lot there but why are you comparing Brisbane 2023 to Geelong 2022? Geelong very clearly best team in it in 2022 and won the last however many games with most being very convincing.

Brisbane didn't even finish top and lost to GC only 5 weeks ago. They followed that up by beating Freo by 3 points and Adelaide by 6 points. The comparison isn't apt at all.

Port thumped them by 54 points last time they met, although it was at AO. Brisbane have choked many home finals before and have a shocking record at the MCG.

This narrative that they belted us at the G this year and wouldn't have lost that game again (not even sure what this means) is quite odd. There's other ways to look at that game.

I'll believe it when I see it with Brisbane, although they do have a good record over the Pies that might work in their favour.

Pretty easy comparison. People were calling out cats finals record then they won it all. Brisbanes previous finals mean **** all

I'm not sure to our extent tbh
Our extent lol.

Brisbane had a hard time beating St Kilda and Adelaide in their last two games at the Gabba.

Didn't watch those games did you.. they had their fair share of lapse in those games. Even the game against us at the G, didn't see their lapse when they were 24 minutes up with 7 mins to go?

Do your research a bit better because I can keep going if you like?

Pies lost 3 of their last 5 coming in too.

I get we are pessimistic, but we are in pretty good form coming into this finals series (Especially compared to last year).

Not surprised you aren't sure, but again simple. They cant play at the G apparently but flogged us for most of the game. So even being terrible they still nearly got us so it's a pretty nothing point

We are in great form, no issues with how we are playing. The Sydney win was as good a game as we've had all year. Brisbanes best is just better than ours this year imo

We are one of the in form top 4 teams alongside Brissy.

Does it mean anything come finals? Nope. Finals is just a whole different ball game. But looking at where our defensive and contested KPI's are at its eerily similar to 2021 and most premiership teams of previous years.

I genuinely think we'll knock off the pies off purely because our game has been stacking up better the last 5 weeks compared to Collingwoods. I mean there's other factors as well, but something tells me we're much better prepared then last year.

Can't wait now.
