he'd rather talk about the tone of the government than the morals of his party members

I wonder why that would be?
But he has complained (on bigfooty at least) about the conduct of the whackjobs in Vic LNP
I don't know if he has publicly complained (ie outisde of bigfooty) about the ALP conduct, I can see Gethelred's point if The Punter was publicly complaining about ALP outside of bigfooty while only disclosing concerns about LNP on bigfooty.
(And for me bigfooty is kind of public, its sort of where I get most of my political engagement from - the odd abc talkback call not withstanding)

Edit and yes Gethelred, I agree with your point about the approach for an opposition when dealing with government re choice to behave bipartisan vs behave as a perennial opposition (the unthinking no/ we object approach). My personal preference is largely bipartisan, with a sort of disgruntled opposition for issues of ideology "along the lines of well they are government so are making the choices, this is what we would have done instead", and save the "we object" for massively critical issues.

well, its hardly (as far as Vic state goes) LNP or greens fault now is it?
no but we're back to my issue with the whole Liberal good economic managers / labor bad economic managers binary

I also have an issue with austerity and bashing debt for the sake of it

that's not saying there isn't bad debt in the balance sheet but the number alone doesn't make it bad debt which is what many want to push

there's also the question of where the debt levels would be without covid and everything else going on

the world has changed significantly in the last 3 years and with that should be the focus on government surpluses, though sadly federal labor are still trying that one on in the middle of a cost of living crisis

Pretty sure they still blame Kennett because there was nothing left for Dan to sell off to wipe out his debt!

Did hear a very interesting claim recently from people connected that they could see Dans dream fire service sold off one day and go private given what a huge loss it is every year.

I could never see the day they’d privatise emergency services, but who knows?

Feel free to call me an economic simpleton but I thought good debt and bad debt could be simply broken down as:

Good debt: owe money but have an asset/program/thing to show for it. Example: We have X amount of debt but have 5 new train lines
Bad debt: owe money but have no asset/program/thing to show for it. Example: We have X amount of debt and have 0 new train lines

If you buy food with your debt, then you have something to show for it, but then you eat the food and then you have neither the food or the money.

Debt is best when you accumulate a productive or appreciating asset.

When you incur debt for overpaying for an asset, then that extra debt is probably the worst debt.

The worst is debt due to reducing taxes or gifting to corporate donors with nothing to show for it.

Lawyers were hired to cancel the 2026 Commonwealth Games at least three weeks before the Victorian government told the public, leaving taxpayers with a legal bill of $1.27 million.

Documents reveal the state’s top public servant, Department of Premier and Cabinet secretary Jeremi Moule, travelled to London to inform UK Games officials of the withdrawal three days before the cancellation was announced – and two days before cabinet signed off on the decision.

They should have told the public before seeking legal advice or advising the governing body?

Tip of the iceberg

In August now Premier Allan claimed the decision to cancel the Commonwealth Games was made 24 hours before the public announcement.

New documents tabled in state parliament have revealed legal firm Arnold Bloch Leibler was contracted in June 2023, up to a month before the former premier, Daniel Andrews, called a snap cabinet meeting and delivered the news to the Victorian public on July 18, that the games would be cancelled.

Why the lies?
