Could be a a bit of BS though in the media via a Port leak just to put a bit of pressure on the Cats. I reckon Port went radio silent as a tactic, so Cats panic last minute.

If they get BZT on the cheap, and baulk at Esava trade they still have filled one hole in defence, and it might not be enough for them to win the flag, but it is an improvement.

I'm in the minority... I actually think BZT has more value than Duursma.

Sure Duursma in his first season is way better... but that was a long time ago.

BZT is a very decent plug and play backman... He just can't be playing on monsters (cough cough Sav).

In saying that... I want Port to "win" that trade purely because the more assets they hold the better for us.

Agree, I predict Duursma's career to fizzle out from here.

They need Esava to restructure that defence to allow Aliir to play the play off running defender.. This draft is too risky to play it through the draft... They will pay up somehow.. The funny thing is apparently Geelong are the ones that is hard to deal with, but Port haven't got their trades done...

He’d want to be outrageously good by foot and a decision maker. There’s a difference btw being average and being slow. If he is indeed slow then there is no hiding you in 2024. Back, fwd to mid.

Every year there is a couple of “these types” Your Goulds, Constable, Biancos etc etc and they just don’t make it. My prediction is he will rocket up the Bigfooty fantasy mocks late (like they all do) and be a general consensus 1st round pick only to settle somewhere on the 40s and be a supporter darling his entire 4 year VFL career.

I think it's Curtin or Sanders if Eagles keep pick 1 and Caddy or O'Sullivan if they trade it. Still think they will deal pick 1 to North.

He will make it.
Whilst it's tougher to make it these days if you're a tad slow, he has a good engine and hulking frame. Chook Constable was a featherweight by comparison. This bloke is a mountain.

Number of permutations depending on what the draft order ends up being. But any way you slice and dice it, there will be a very good kid that falls to us.

Regardless it would be absolutely ridiculous to be trading out pick 8 prior to the draft without knowing exactly what all our options are. If Sanders or Curtin fall then I assume that Mackie will be quick to call their name. If it’s a decision between Caddy or Wilson, does he trade out or just call the next best? There may be a very attractive offering with a FF that is too good to refuse.

But whatever direction we go, unless we are impatient (and Mackie has never shown himself to be that) then we should get a very good outcome.

Tuohy is one appears well loved & respected by those at the club, as well as being one who gives a lot of himself back to the club - when Rachel Kearns first signed with our AFLW team, Tuohy took it upon himself to help with her integration to the club and one-on-one training in adapting from the Gaelic game to AFL

He may not necessarily going into coaching after his playing, but could see him adding value in an ambassador or player liaison role - so maybe 2024 could be the start of a transition into that area

With the midfield needs of the Bulldogs, Melbourne and GWS picking before you I think the odds are pretty slim to be honest. I don't know about trading back considering the drop in quality it'd see for Geelong, so unless there was a future first involved it wouldn't make much sense from my POV.

Hard to see him falling to us but funnier things have happened. Would obviously rely on WC retaining pick 1 which I think when push comes to shove will be traded to North.

Usually Cal Twomey does his mock draft weeks before the draft night.. his usually bang on the money on the 1st round ( top 10 )
So it will be interesting to see who Geelong are named too,

I've thought all along he was no chance to get through, talk Dees and Dogs dont need mids baffles me, sure they are loaded for ready made talent but they have next to nothing coming through, especially the Dogs who will lose Treloar and Libba before they know it.

It's a bit wierd the whole Esava being the difference between Port winning a flag or not common opinion. I think back to early 2022, travelling to Melbourne from Perth (home) with my wife and seeing the Cats getting smashed by Stkilda. At that point I literally thought there's no way we can win a flag, our list is crap. After that we won the rest of the games for the season... maybe i should visit more often lol... but back to point...
There are intangibles that lead a team to winning a premiership. Of course putting a player or two in helps which helped Collingwood. But it doesn't really seem like a list is the entire picture for a premiership team. Likewise Port getting Sav doesn't mean much for there flag prospects imo.

And if it does reach the draft I don't think it bothers us.

If we're prepared to go that far in negotiations and risk getting any return, it's a clear indication that we don't rate this draft and believe we can pick up whoever we want with later picks.

I agree. I think mackies comments about us preparing to use later picks all year are telling..i dont think we are that bothered about not getting p25 as we dont rate this draft. If port add in a future 2nd on top then we might do the deal.
