Past #26: Tarryn Thomas [Part III] - [C.Twomey] AFL rules TT is eligible to play in all competitions as of 14 October

The irony of course being, that this sort of behaviour is common place among the upper levels of management of companies who sponsor football.

Hypocrisy abounds.
Amongst clubs and the league themselves as well. And really, there would he a lot more goes on than ever makes it as public knowledge.

Between 1 January 2004 and 30 June 2014, 302 incidents of female perpetrated homicide were recorded, involving 317 adult female offenders. These included 115 intimate partner homicide offenders (34%), 96 family homicide offenders (28%), 86 non-family homicide offenders (26%), and 20 homicide offenders in which the relationship with the victim was not stated or unknown (6%).

so you are clearly saying the 302 murders of women killing men is not as bad as when a man kills a woman.

That is what you are saying isn't it?

Woman kills man = 5/10 bad

Man kills woman = 10/10 bad

As blackshadow said above, it’s simply something we’ll never agree on, so theres no point doing a circular argument.

"In determining the sanction, the AFL took into account the evidence over a period of time which included Thomas engaging in misconduct while he was undertaking education in 2023 to deal with similar behaviours from earlier that year."

Who murders their children more mothers or fathers?

Nah, doesn't count when a woman kills a kid.

or sexually abuses a child

Conclusion

The general population underestimates the involvement of biological mothers in child sexual abuse. The results confirm that female perpetrators account for a rather small but substantial proportion of the perpetrators of child sexual abuse. Furthermore, the results indicate that mothers play a role in sexual abuse – either as perpetrators or as bystanders – that has been underestimated so far. It is therefore necessary to sensitize professionals and the public to the topic of female perpetrators and especially to the role of mothers in child sexual abuse

No longer a north player

North Melbourne has received notification from the AFL that Tarryn Thomas has been found guilty of inappropriate behaviour towards a female.

The club accepts the AFL’s findings and endorses their sanction, which will see Thomas suspended from AFL football for 18 matches.

As a result of that finding, and in light of previous indiscretions, the club has informed Thomas that he will no longer be a North Melbourne player.

North Melbourne chief executive Jennifer Watt said Thomas had received strong support from the club to change his behaviour and he was aware that any new indiscretion would threaten his playing future at North Melbourne.

“The club has provided Tarryn with significant time, resources and support but we’ve now arrived at a point where the individual’s needs don’t match those of the club,” Watt said.

“We know Tarryn needs help – for himself and for the women in his life – but it’s clear the path we’ve taken over the past 12 months hasn’t had the desired impact.

“To that end, we have made the decision to end Tarryn’s time at North Melbourne.

“This decision doesn’t come lightly or easily. We brought Tarryn to the club as a teenager and we acknowledge that he has faced complex and challenging circumstances over his life.

“We hope Tarryn will find the support that is right for him and that he does the work required to be the best version of himself.”

North Melbourne general manager of football Todd Viney said that the club had worked hard to support Thomas but he has now run out of chances.

“Tarryn’s ongoing behaviour was not compatible with the club’s or the team’s values,” Viney said.

“We’ve channelled many hours into helping Tarryn and seeking to rehabilitate him – for his sake and for the sake of those his behaviour has impacted.

“Ultimately, though, it’s our responsibility to put time and effort into the people who are committed to taking the club forward.”

Although Thomas will no longer be a North Melbourne player, the club will continue to make available medical and mental health support to him as he transitions into life away from Arden St.

“NORTH Melbourne has sacked Tarryn Thomas after he was suspended by the AFL for 18 matches after a recent allegation of "inappropriate behaviour"

He will be unable to participate in football matches at any level while he serves the suspension, which was handed down by the AFL on Thursday afternoon.

Subsequently, the Kangaroos informed Thomas he would "no longer be a North Melbourne player".

The 23-year-old has been training away from the footy club since the latest allegations came to hand.”
Done and dusted.
I just hope no other club picks him up so its a TT penalty not a North one.

As a woman - who’s been a member of this club for many years and I would like to think has been pretty balanced in my thoughts towards Tarryn and the hope he could work with the club to be better - my thought now is relief that he’s gone.

Domestic violence (including where the woman is the perpetrator) is an absolute horror for our society. Too many people live in fear and pain because of it.

While I am never thrilled to see someone accused of what Tarryn was in our jumper. I was okay with the club supporting him for the meantime as I thought it would be valuable and his best chance to change. I wanted Tarryn to take the support he was given and learn and grow because I wanted to see someone realise they could be better.

However despite our assistance and care, he’s kept refusing to learn. I hate that even with the resources available, he couldn’t be “fixed” but he made his choice and I am more than content with a consequence of that choice being his removal from the club.

He’s a good, could be great footballer, but he’s not worthy of being a Shinboner.

We've offered him as much support as we can over the last two years and from what I know the AFL has too.

I worry about how he'll travel over the next year or so.

If I'm him I'm going up to Sydney to run with some old crew and if I end up in Silverwater with my bro eating KFC every night, rooting screws, getting high when I want and generally being King s**t, well that's just fine.

And that would just be making more of the same mistakes that have landed him in this position...

“Oh Gerrard it’s just a great redemption story for Tarryn.
To see where he’s come from and yes the Pies picked him up for nothing but it’s just great to see him in a Collingwood jumper”
🤮
"A triumphant tutelage touted, tried and tested by the redemption tour managers... Fly McRae plucks Tarryn from the tawdry trenches and thrusts him to superstar status, producing on the game's biggest stage, in the biggest moments... Tarryn Thomas, truly terrific!"

Just had a look on other boards, he needs to spend time out the AFL for any club to want him on a list

I guess a lit of people don't realise how destructive things like this can be Z, especially if the person has shown danger signs from previous events. In the case of a lot of other players and people with public profiles, we see organisations come onto news and current affairs programs stating that they will "wrap their arms around" him or her (mostly him as it happens). I used to think that was a bit of palaver but it really means to provide some stability and assistance to minimise the harm somebody might do to themselves or others when they feel that their world has caved in.

I wonder if Thomas has any family or genuine friends he can rely on to prevent him from spiralling? Even if he is a w@nker.
Well said. I've been pondering your last point as well over the course of today, even if I perhaps have only a limited right to given how harshly I've talked about him. I just hope people can differentiate between opinions on someone as a player and those on someone as a person. I never wished ill on him, just that North would turf him.

Going by bits and pieces of evidence, I don't think his support network is great at all. It may well be that his mates in footy are the most stable influences around him. McKay, Curtis, JHF. It's a bit concerning to think about

Absolute respect to the AFL and North Melbourne on the Thomas issue! Support was given to Thomas by the Roo’s and he refused to address the concerns.

I hope your Roo’s do not have to pay Thomas a cent. I think he would have been a distraction for your young Roo’s had he stayed for 2024.

If another club wants to give Thomas a second chance, then you should be able to organise a trade ( not sure he worth much in trade value though ).

What could have been.

Bye Bye Bonehead.

Invest what's left of your AFL earnings in real estate. At least you'll have a roof over your head.

Both on and off field this decision is 100% the correct one, he’s going to have to live with his behaviour while his team mates enter possibly the most exciting era in our history.

You seem to be mistaken in thinking that I think the number of women killing men is close to the number of men killing women.

Literally nobody thinks that.

The difference is that I think a man killing a woman is abhorrent, just like a woman killing a man.

You think that one is kind of bad and one is terrible.
