Newcombe and Durham go alright ….

Marlion Pickett
John Noble
Cooper Sharman
Massimo D'Ambrosio

Ash Johnson and James Blanck probably a tier below. Ryan Maric is getting games. James Peatling at GWS. Jordan Boyd

Port have played Jed McEntee for far too many games

So it’s possible to find good players, you’ve just got to be good at drafting, development and selection……

One thing is key: selecting an older mature age player is NOT the move (so don't draft the Brett Turner types)

Of the MSD picks to have played more than 30 games, only 1 was over the age of 22 when drafted (Pickett)

Yeah it’s possible, we’ve just not done well at all with getting Parnell/Turner

There's definitely a couple of reasonable players available in the MSD every season. Just like prior to the MSD there were a few reasonable mature age players taken every draft

Surely it’s a free hit for a rebuilding side (salary cap)
You find a diamond it means you are less reliant on the main draft and can bundle some picks to get up the board to the cream.

Hope we can strike some gold in the MSD.

Theres a s**t load of dead wood on the list now. Reckon we’ll be putting up with the likes of Sholl and McHenry for as far as the eye can see.
If we get the MSD right, we just about may be able convince a couple of SANFL clubs to draft McHenry and Sholl and tgat would make the MSD a complete success regardless that we didn't end up taking anyone ourselves

Sholl showed what he can do. All be it being against weak opposition. McHenry and Jones I agree. First round picks who were picked based on being great humans rather than great footballers

Midseason draft is a longshot but why wouldn't you take it

Parnell hasn't worked out but was worth a go

Even if we only land 1 of 3 players, it's still worth it given the number of players we need to replace.

We know what Sholl can do, the weekend should not surprise anyone.

He’ll never do it against a good side. He can’t tackle, he can’t break a tackle. Should not be playing.

There are no diamond in the rough smalls that make it through to the MSD at the age of 20, they were passed over in successive main and rookie drafts for good reasons. You get your roleplayer smalls by drafting high and pushing down for 4 or 5 years, not by pushing up with the super late rookie draft.

For us, only late developing project ruckmen and talls are worth the time and investment - the MSD isn't there for bottom teams, it's for finals teams to get solid bodied injury cover.

SANFL watchers - would you think T Murray gets to our second MSD pick? Or has he generally been showing too much?
Yes, I would take him. Looks a worthy investment as a fwd/ruck. Not tall enough to be a starting ruck.

He’s 200cm, 20 years old so still plenty of maturing to do but he can clunk a mark like his brother.

The arrogance to think there isn't one or two useful AFL level players at state league or an undeveloped talent does sound a very AFC thing to do.
