Heh. I think this is spectacular. I 100% endorse the argument that the reason people disagree with you is because they don’t know what is good for them. I find the most persuasive argument for anything is to tell people they are stupid if they don’t agree. It works on my wife all the time. Any time I find myself losing an argument with her I quickly switch to, “You just think that because you’re a moron!” It wins her over every time!
But is it true or not in the case of the wider American public? They think being able to afford medicine and hospital stays is socialism (again, just as one example) :drunk:

Their culture, this rugged individualism thing they have going is a huge part of both sides of politics being able to manipulate them to the degree they always have, especially so in regards to the working poor.

Really? He may have been on the scene when he was younger, his policies don't show that now.
His polices are what corporate America and the military industrial complex want.

Aka the people who run America and control both parties.

right...........

Anyone that disagrees with you is an idiot, even the commentators that are democrat leaning, which is the candidate you supposedly support.

Jake Tapper is a pretty respected commentator. As soon as he says something you dont like. Boom he is an idiot.

Classic response and why politics is hard work.
No, not everyone who disagrees with me, just CNN with respect to a few of their takes.

Right wingers now arguing how on the money CNN is, incredible stuff.

I'm not a right winger, and i also gave you a direct quote from Jake Tapper, so I'm unsure why you keep referring back to CNN. Again, you are bundling people into categories because they dont agree with you.

Do you not agree with what Jake is saying in that video i posted to you?

Perfectly described the woke cult then but too blinded by skin colour to realise It
So it’s not the republicans who are enforcing their religion by trying to ban abortion, healthcare for LGBT individuals and before that trying to keep same sex marriage illegal?

But it’s the woke cult for stating, “let’s not be racist, sexist and homophobic towards one another”.

Still seems pretty consistent for me. One still to wants to live without interference and the other claims to want to live without interference when all they really want to is to enforce their religion on the other group.

China just make products that are luxuries and not necessities.

People cant afford food and a house right now in alot of places. The cost of a iPad and BYD isnt all that important to anyone right now

So tariffs are going to allow people the chance to purchase houses now?

If China only make products that are luxuries then why the need to place tariffs so that jobs come to America?

Should send this thread to Sky for the "Lefties losing it " segment. Got many episodes just in this thread alone.

Last nights was one of the funniest. Showing the MSNBC coverage and I would be sure it was satire! It seems a lot of people in this thread must watch it and believe those lunatics.

They are not trying to ban abortion - they couldn't do it even if they tried.
That decision lies with the states and if the majority in a state want an abortion ban then isn't that democracy at work?

You say 'healthcare for LGBT individuals' with an inference that gay people will no longer have access to a doctor. That is nonsense. Its very specific in that they want to wind back gender reassignment surgery for prisoners and have an age limit for gender reassignment. That is basically it. Probably impacts less than 100 people at a guess.

I'm personally unhappy about the trump victory but yesterday I had the TYT coverage on hoping to salvage a bit of schadenfreude. They mostly kept themselves under control which was disappointing.

I’m having this same conundrum with my group of 10 or so close friends. Half are now Trump supporters. Early days there were a few arguments because I was in disbelief with some of their views but now I actively avoid any political conversation.

I consider myself a centrist and want politics to be able uniting people and working towards a common good and not the disgusting rhetoric that it’s become.

These are normal people who I otherwise have no issue with but knowing their political views and stances, I just look at these people differently these days. It’s not as simple as just cutting people off.

I'm the opposite; I'll talk to anyone. Can always learn something.

John Stuart Mill covered all of this and more over 150 years ago in On Liberty:

"
He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them. But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion... Nor is it enough that he should hear the opinions of adversaries from his own teachers, presented as they state them, and accompanied by what they offer as refutations. He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them...he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form."

Never underestimate the power of individuals to vote against their own self interest.

It's interesting all ready seeing Latino voters that moved decisively towards Trump acknowledging they have illegal immigrant family members in the US, but they believe they won't be impacted by any deportation.

I think a fair few people will be shocked by what the future holds.
The message coming out of the immigrant vote is the legal immigrants are not happy at the illegal immigrants getting preferential treatment

Doesn't bother me either way. My Only hope is you look at both sides of the story objectively and don't get caught up on sound bites anymore. To start critically thinking on all topics as it's time for some real discussions so we can put a stop to the division and make some real postive changes.

I was fortunate to work in the US twice over the last few years, and visited there before that. Seen blue states, red states, and everything in between. Was far more valuable than relying on the same 2-3 TV networks to give me the information I only wanted to hear already. Had a few preconceptions exploded on either side.

That was a very classy concession speech from Kamala. Radiated truth, respect, decency and duty. Gave her supporters exactly the message they needed to hear going forward. A good sport, wholesome and not a sook. Never give up the fight, not going back, maintain hope, a setback to overcome through hard diligent faithful work and shining example.

"only when it is dark enough can you see the stars" - if things go worst-case bad for America, that snippet of vision quote is going to really sting in hindsight.
