For what it's worth, when Adam Kelly was asked how much say Roo had at the club in terms of selection and match day his response was "minimal".
I don’t expect he would for selection and match day, but he would recruiting, list management, key appointments, the big stuff. Which ultimately impacts selection and match day if you help recruit and re-sign a useless coach.

Theres no chance, not all at one.

Laird's in, though if he plays as he did at the back end of last season on a flank he'll be under pressure.

Milera looks to have done enough to make the coaches happy, IMO its out of he, Nank and Jones. 2 MIGHT get in.

Smith is almost no chance of featuring at all unless the 4 guys ive mentioned are injured. Im very confident with that statement.

Haven’t we learnt from past sins

Milera takes time to build form and confidence after a long lay off ..

We have seen this rodeo before - looks a new recruit in pre-season, plays ok in trial games but struggles in the early real games for points

There is zero need to rush him back for round 1 - let him build form and confidence in the sanfl and force him to take Nank’s spot in the team

Have there been any reports on Sholl?

Bone bruising on the knee. Can be very slow-healing. I wonder if he's a lock for Round 1?

We saw with Soligo that it only took a 3 week ankle for him in January for him to lose his spot in the 22, reinstated instantly only because of the most insipid opening three quarters to a season I've ever seen.

When there are 27 guys deserving a starting 22 spot the coaches have to look for justifiable reasons not to pick some players. Injuries, even minor ones, become a convenience and mean coaches don't have to make a hard call.
Absolutely we should not be risking any injured or underdone players for round 1, given we have decent depth.

Sounds like Michaelanny may be in doubt too, but we have plenty of others including Nankervis & Bond who otherwise look like missing (though I would pick Nank any way).

I agree there's zero need, but I'd argue we've seen him play OK in trial games.

He's either been very good in them, or he gets hurt. I wouldn't be picking him myself, but the next 2 weeks will determine that. We've got a long line of players who could play the role, it's going to come down to a shootout of sorts.

Luckily he didn't play in that strong wind at Pt Pirie, he might have got blown away and ended up in the gulf
He started at the ground but he blew away before the first bounce.
Sholl out - blown away

I think it really depends. If he doesnt show anything in trial games and is struggling to get involved then sure should start in the Sanfl. But you cant be serious about starting him in the Sanfl regardless of whether he plays well in the trial games. If he plays well and deserves to be picked he gets selected. However, in a fully fit squad the question is does Milera get a spot based on the players available anyway considering we have 5 players to insert into our best 23.

At this stage, round 1 selection is shaping up to be the most difficult of Nicks coaching career. Everyone appears to be fit and firing. Even players that we put lines through are putting their hand up to be considered.

Taylor had a very good game. 10 tackles shows he’s working hard and getting to each contest.

Draper with 25 disposals too. Lessgoooo

Yeah, that was the thing that stood out big time in the stats for me. We need to find a way to have Taylor in the team, the guy is a big talent.

Could have sworn Curtin kicked 2-3. Must have mistaken Walker goals for him. Didnt think Walker had 4.

You don't think Smith will be helping with the development of the side while playing in the SANFL?

I don't think he gets near the AFL side, but I think he still has something to offer.
He doesn't need to be taking up a spot on the AFL list for that. Have him as a SANFL player (not sure if the rules allow that, though?) or give him a coaching role or something.

Makes no sense to keep him on the AFL list if he's not a best 22 player at his age. He's playing a position we have plenty of depth in, meanwhile we don't have a spare list spot for a ruckman, a position for which we have close to zero depth.
