I know there's a strong Day for captain vibe on the board - but Moore is still the next captain for mine. Absolute heart and soul leader.
Will’s 23, and potentially a generational player for us. He has a bare minimum decade ahead of him.

His day will come!

Oh no doubt - not writing off Will entirely. I just don't think he is the presumptive next captain like some do.

Personally I’m in no rush to make any changes.

Sic is underrated as a captain!and he has found a great balance in his game now between bringing the fire but not going overboard (usually 😅).

He has plenty of years left in his tank as well.

I, too, think Moore is the best next choice for captain. Going against both him and Day in my mind, though, is that I like a captain who stays behind the ball. On field inspiration is a must for a captain. I think a side really benefits from having him on the half back line marshalling the team as well.

Captain on the half back line. Vice on the half forward line. I feel that’s the best on field positioning for the leadership.

Sicily until his form drops off.
If that is in 2 years, Will Day should be ready.

If we make a change now, it's got to be Moore, until Will Day is ready.

Yep, wall-to-wall gold.
So much gold indeed.

Loved hearing all the stories about Sam growing as a coach and as a person, including feedback loop and managing key relationships.

The conversation around health and wellbeing was really good.

Loved the story about getting hold of players, and how Watto would bring Ginni to the catch up with Sam!

Sam’s got great self awareness and is articulate but is relatable at the same time.

Every time I listen to Sam, i just feel like we are destined for greatness.

Some interesting take aways:

  • Mentioned Battle as someone that makes everyone around him better and that others already love playing with him.
  • Talked about the importance of having a game plan that is very well executed by everyone and how he feels that is more important having the best game plan.
  • Was asked about what he learned from Clarkson, and didn't mention very much at all. In fact the one positive example he was asked to give, he ended up talking about Fagan giving him positive feedback, which helped motivate him. I found this interesting given he was clearly asked about Clarkson.
  • In contrast, spoke glowingly about Adam Simpson and his relationship with him, where I didn't pick up on any thing like that with his long time coach.
  • He seems to really value all the skill sets of others in our coaching and fitness staff and what they bring as individuals, which all great leaders know how to tap in to.

The best part is that there are plenty of natural successors to Sic across all age groups.

I think until either Clarko or he aren't coaching against either , he won't really give much on that front .
Anything he says will be interpreted and used how the media want to create a headline.
Better off playing a straight bat and diverting like he did and like he has done so far.

Sydney completely underestimated meek by playing Grundy underdone.

Love how Sammy is strategising in areas not so prominent in 2024.

Bodes well for 2025 and beyond
An underdone Grundy is still a massive upgrade on Ladhams. Just saying

From what I remember didn't Sammy mention the time we played Sydney at the SCG that no mobile phones were allowed in order for us to become more focused.
However, Sammy needed his to check on his pregnant wife. Clarko said "No. (same rules for everyone) Pretty sure Mitch commented on this and I'm guessing this deeply hurt Sam. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
